  1. Drew was the prototype for a baseball player. He did everything very well. I remember how impressed I was with him when I saw him in Ft. Myers in 2007. His fielding was underrated because he made it look effortless. He got a better jump on balls than any RF that I have seen except maybe Dewey. Every time that balls were hit in the RCF gap, he would be there by time the camera tracked the ball. When the ball went down the line into the corner, he would be there too. Yes, part of it was positioning, but a bigger part was the type of jump he got on the ball. When Jay Bruce came up for the Reds, I went to the RF deck seats in Ft. Myers to watch the game. It was a great perspective to appreciate the jump that OFers get on balls. The difference between Bruce and Drew was huge. Drew got so much a better jump on balls than Bruce. Drew's baseball skills were at the top of the charts across the board. The problem with Drew was that if he sneezed you knew that you would be playing without him for 2-3 weeks.
  2. The only time this offense can score more that 3 runs is when the other teams D falls apart.
  3. Weak throw by Fowler. It had nothing on it. XB slowed himself down by looking at the throw twice.
  4. Maybe Bradley is going to go on a hot steak. That would really help this lineup.
  5. They are giving us a big opportunity here.
  6. Getting 4 + runs will be a struggle for this lineup.
  7. Replacing Ortiz (79 runs & 127 RBI) with Morleand (49 Runs & 60 RBI) is a difference of 100 runs. Add in some regression from a few of the other players. You missed Hanley on your mentions of players likely to regress. 2016 was his first full season in 5 years. Add to all this the cascading effect of losing Ortiz. It was easy to see us falling off by more than 100 runs.
  8. He has made a lot of rookie errors out there in the early season. Sac Fly to SS should never be something that is in your score-book.
  9. An improvement in pitching definitely addressed the issue in part, maybe more maybe less, but what was done to address the remaining deficit was inadequate imo.
  10. The bottom 4 in our lineup are horrible, maybe the bottom 5.
  11. LOL! My agreeing with you would be bad for your image -- your self image.
  12. Spud can turn a phrase with the best of them.
  13. I was just responding to what I assumed was sarcasm on your part and sarcasm with which I agree.
  14. I am glad that you have clarified that the current coaching staff has no responsibility for this.
  15. He didn't ask me.
  16. That they suck is your opinion. That Sale was the last piece. Of the puzzle is DD's opinion. I think you are both wrong.
  17. And I agree that there have been other problems. We had a season last year where the offense hit on almost all cylinders. If Ortiz had stayed, there was likely to be some regression, but his leaving has really exacerbated the downturn. It is DD's job to anticipate this. I did.
  18. We have all heard the saying that hitting is contagious. Statheads probably have studies disproving it, but imo there is a cascading effect of adding or subtracting a big bat to a lineup. A big hitter in our lineup would make pitchers work harder and approach the rest of the lineup differently. A pitcher has only so many high caliber bullets to deliver. A big hitter would waste a lot of those on a pitches.
  19. And let's not make this argument a referendum on whether Napoli is through, because on my list of 4, he was my 4th choice. The list might be longer than 4. I just threw them out off the top of my head. I stand by larger point -- that DD flubbed by not addressing the gaping hole left by Big Papi. On the positive side of the ledger for DD, he is not Ben who would have brought us more last place finishes.
  20. A lot of people thought he was through when we traded him and then he had his best career year last season.
  21. Some have been distracted by print journalists.
  22. I meant after June, but you are right that he has had a lot of PA in the last 2 seasons. He has been an everyday player through June and then due to a fall off in his performance he starts to sit periodically. Check his career splits. There is a noticeable fall off in the second half and his career numbers in July are very bad. Edit: If we are going to roll him out there every game for the rest of the season, there will be a lot more crying about lack of run production.
  23. Check the game logs. Come June each year he is not an every day player. Don't ever pick him up for your fantasy teams. he doesn't get regular ABs
