  1. David Wright has stenosis of the spine. That was the end for him. He fought his way back to return to the field on a limited basis. Last year, he had a slipped disc or ruptured disk in his neck that required surgery including spinal fusion. That is very debilitating. Look at how long that surgery get Peyton Manning out of action and it sapped is arm strength. Add to that a shoulder problem. The guy is toast --a physical wreck.
  2. Earned or unearned, our pitchers gave up 20 hits and 22 base runners. 9 hits, 10 base runners, and 3 HRs allowed by Porcello in 4 2/3 innings. Only 2 of the 22 base runners were allowed by Moreland. Clean fielding wasn't going to save this team tonight.
  3. The poor guy got a real stinker of a game for his first broadcast.
  4. Home Run # 3 surrendered by Porcello. He wants to keep the league lead. Cry me a river about the poor D behind him.
  5. Porcello with 31 HRs surrendered on the season to lead the league. That is not solid.
  6. And another HR surrendered by Porcello. He is s***ing on himself.
  7. It will go in the book as an L for Porcello and deservedly so -- a ton of hits and a HR and he made the error that opened the door.
  8. Yaz was a sports legend on Long Island. He was the best basketball player in Suffolk County history at that time as well as the best baseball player. One day someone told his Dad that Carl was at football tryouts. His father drove to the field and took him off the field telling him that an injury could ruin his baseball career.
  9. This makes sense to me. Playing other sports builds other muscles and helps the athlete's body develop more fully rather than putting all of the stress on a few sets of muscles.
  10. I would still rather have Encarnacion.
  11. I don't think Billy Martin had anything to do with current pitch count restrictions. It didn't work out terribly for the A's. Most of those pitchers stayed in the majors for 8-10 years--a nice career. The A's used them up for sure, getting only a few really productive seasons from each of them. However, the A's payroll was about 12 cents and they were not going to sign any of these pitchers to big contracts. They used them up and didn't have to worry about the Yankees poaching them.
  12. Spud, did you not know that calling someone "articulate" is a micro aggression.
  13. LOL! And much of it in boldface type.
  14. Yes, I forgot about the Torre bias factor. That senile old dope needs to be sent to retirement. Baseball cannot have him as its moral authority and rules enforcer. He presided over a ball club where PEDs were rampant and he turned a blind eye.
  15. it looks like 2016 will be the only good season we will get from Hanley for his hugely overpaid contract. It really is ridiculous that Ben signed him for a long term contract with an annual rate that far exceeds any of David Ottis's single year contracts. Just terrible judgment.
  16. All pitchers back then threw their pitches at different speeds. Today, only a few pitchers have an effective changeup and that pitch is thrown at one velocity. Luis Tiant had about 10 high octane fastballs a game. He used them in big spots for crucial outs. Everything else he threw had some sort of bend to it. Tha max velocity from pitch 1 imo is what is causing all the arm troubles. I heard some former pitcher say that you can't throw 95 mph for 6+ innings for an entire year.
  17. Sanchez will get a minimum of 5 games, imo. He threw and landed at least 2 cheap-shot sucker punches from the safety of standing over a pinned player.
  18. The Guardians seem to have a good history against Sale. I am not worried about him tiring.
  19. The numbers by the Cleveland team against Sale before tonight were head scratchers. For some reason the entire team hits him very well. An enigma?
  20. Was he a big velocity guy before? I thought his success was due to a herd sinker and deceptive motion.
  21. Big win to beat an ace like Kluber. Great pitching tonight!!
  22. I am not a big fan of using Kimbrel here, but I guess that he was warmed up so Farrell felt that he might as well use him.
  23. Nunez said take that. I' ll swing hard if I want to and i will club you.
  24. We have to do something about this Brock Holt guy. He doesn't belong on the 25 man roster.
