  1. A very strong argument can be made that if the Red Sox had any closer other than Kanley Jansen that we do not win the Division last year.
  2. Former Players would far outweigh the managers. I do believe that managers fall into the idiot category, but they know how to play the game and they know who is good and who is not. What they don't know how to do is manage -- the one thing they are paid to do.
  3. All Former players and managers should vote. No sportswriters and absolutely no geeks. People who played the game are in the best position to judge greatness.
  4. I am yet to see a move by GM where the GM did not have a rationale for the move, even the worst of moves. Having a rationale for the move doesn't make it less bad. Pablo was a horrible move.
  5. If DD signs J.D. there is no logjam?
  6. The good GMs know which prospects to keep and the rest should be trading chips to maximize their value.
  7. So the Red Sox are only be on the hook for $20 million in 2018. If they sign JD and cut Hanley, that would be great imo. DD has had to eat an awful lot of bad contracts that he inherited— Pablo ($54 million), Hanley ($23 million) and Craig ($12 million)—that’s almost $90 million in parting gifts. That is ridiculous. And we still have Rusney Castillo rotting away in the minors for another 3 years.
  8. Do you think that is a possibility? If he goes elsewhere and his option vests, won't we be on the hook for 2 years/$40 million?
  9. Untouchables. Such a silly notion. They are all long shots, every last one of them. So much can go wrong to derail them. One of our untouchables from last year is dead and our #1 prospect a few short years ago is living with a surgically damaged brain. There are no sure things. Prospects that are 3+ years away are something that I don't invest my fan hopes in.
  10. Except for Benny the Boob, coffee boy.
  11. It is a terrible move. Moreland is a meh player, and it creates a logjam if we get the big bat that is really needed. If he signs J.D., Bradley probably has to go. J.D. can't DH because that will be the spot for the untradeable Hanley. I would have been in favor of Bradley going if it brought back Abreu, but that isn't going to happen now. i know that you think that our current crew will improve enough without adding a bat. I think you are dead wrong. Even if they improve, they will not improve enough to keep up with the Yankees who just added a huge piece with Stanton. It is a HR hitters game, and we don't have a bopper.
  12. Did people think there would be a groundswell among fat slob fans who identified with that human donut? There was zero upside to that acquisition. He was in a free-fall against lefties for a few year and his fielding was average at his peak.
  13. It is a doubles ballpark.
  14. They got burned on J.D.'s policy because although he missed significant time, the insurance never kicked in, because it only covered his shoulder.
  15. I heard it awhile back that the Red Sox do not purchase insurance on any of their contracts. I think I heard it on NESN. They have not insured contracts since J.D. Drew.
  16. No, they don’t have insurance on him.
  17. It is more likely that the Red Sox will be paying him for post-op rehab than him opting out of this lucrative contract.
  18. He didn’t get an elbow transplant. He still has a time bomb in his elbow. A 200 inning year will only get him closer to the inevitable.
  19. Do you see anyone singing his praises for this Hot Stove season, except possibly for kimmi?
  20. what is that?
  21. Cleveland Guardians replaced Santana with Yonder Alonso.
  22. He's no Theo? That's an understatement. Ben doesn't even have the prospect of getting another GM position. He was a disaster. LOL!!
  23. Longoria to the Giants for Christian Arroyo and Denard Span.
  24. He has a chronic elbow issue, he is not going to do better than $30 million/year for 2019-2022. And I don't think he will be able to do better than that even if wins the Cy Young,. On the other hand, it baffles me why so many people would want to lose a Cy Young caliber pitcher. How do you replace that? And at what cost?
