  1. I think they need to pull back the reigns on Beeks. He clearly can’t handle the majors yet and in each outing his confidence is being destroyed. I think they will need to leave him AAA until he starts dominating at that level.
  2. It became starkly apparent that Farrell needed to go when the team turned around its performance for Lovullo when Farrell left for medical treatment. I firmly believe that Farrell would have been fired had it not been for the cancer. I think they didn’t want to be viewed as heartless.
  3. Betts improvement is probably matched and evened out by Bradley’s terrible performance. Bogey’s uptick is probably countered by both catchers being dogshit. The difference is JD.
  4. I am glad that you admit that it was a poor decision. You always like to let the manager off the hook with excuses. Final verdict: It was a poor decision and many of us knew it in real time.
  5. He had a successful year, but his over all record was dogshit. I have said it before. If baseball regarded him so highly as his devotees on this board, he would be a GM somewhere. He took his one year break at Columbia and no one was offering him a GM job. Edit: The market often does hire incompetents, but it never leaves competent high performers on the side lines.
  6. That it happens doesn’t mean that it is acceptable. It only means that those GMs have done a poor job. As to the Mets, they are a terribly run organization.
  7. JD Martinez period. The team won the division and is better this season. He is the reason. All the other positive perforformances are countered by negative performances to a great degree. JD has been the difference. If he gets injured, we will be in deep doo doo.
  8. And sometimes a driver sees the red light and goes through it anyway. People make poor decisions sometimes despite all of the information available.
  9. The White Sox are paying him $5 million.
  10. ”Martinez might have helped some”? So it is mere coincidence that Papi leaves and Betts performance falls off. Yes, I know about the wrist injury. A Papi like stud gets signed and Benny starts playing like an all star and that only helped some? I disagree.
  11. That was his fault. He should have eaten that ball after the bobble. He killed ERod, no ifs, buts or what’s.
  12. Dumpster dives are a shot in the dark. If you start doing milultiple dumpster dives, the cost adds up. It is better to do a straight out acquisition. Shields is pitching very well this season. He has greatly reduced the Home Run ball. The rate at which he has reduced the Home Run ball indicates that more than randomness is at work.
  13. I posted a couple of days ago about James Shields. I have been following James Shields’ season. He is with a pathetic team that is horrible defensively and they play in a bandbox. He has put up a high number of quality starts, but the really notable thing about his season thus far is that he has avoided what has been his downfall throughout his career — the Home Run ball. I would think that he should be an inexpensive acquisition. If Pom and Wright continue to falter Shields would be a good alternative.
  14. i don’t blame Swihart. I blame Management that has engaged in contortions to retain this very mediocre talent. It has hurt the roster as with today’s short benches, you can’t afford to keep a guy without a role. He didn’t look bad behind the plate in his last start, and I hope that continues to hold true when the opposition starts to force him to make throws and other plays.
  15. Swihart has gone from not having a role on this team to being a menace -- getting doubled off first base like an amateur after the LFer decoyed him and killing one of our starting pitchers with his inadequacy playing first base.
  16. And you still missed the point being discussed.
  17. The point being discussed was whether or not it was an acceptable progression for a big market team to go through an abysmal period like the Red Sox did with the last place finishes. I don't think it is.
  18. When have the Yankees finished last for 2 or 3 years in a 4 year period,,, or the Dodgers?
  19. He is an excellent bunter, and Cora knows the signs.
  20. Blake has still not done anything to earn his roster spot. Athleticism isn't enough. You have to produce.
  21. It is time for Blake to earn his roster spot.
  22. And Cora for the great lineup and for going to Kelly in another high leverage situation. Did he think that Kelly worked out his issues in his dreams last night?
