When a pitcher is tearing through the opposituon like a buzzsaw, you don’t go to the bullpen for the formulaic save. I like that Cora left him in. I hate managing by formula.

Not a slam against him, but it happens to guys who have been sitting on the bench who all of a sudden are getting a lot of playing time and running the bases a lot. He may be a tremendously conditioned athlete, but there is a different conditioning when you play regularly.

I guess that it is either hypocrisy or a wavering faith in your statistically held belief. I am going with the latter.

respectfully, when a guy is trapped off the lead base that badly, the correct play is for the pitcher to run toward him and force him to commit. I learned it the hard way in high school. After some coaching, I never made the mistake again. Holder panicked and forgot his coaching. -
As can happen when a guy from the bench goes from not playing at all to getting regular playing time and running the bases because he is getting hits, he has blown a tire and hit the DL.

And if the pitcher did the right thing that is taught in high school and had run at Jackie instead of throwing to 3rd, Jackie's blunder would have been exposed. Nice slide be Jackie, but the post game analysis was that it was initially a bonehead play. -

Are you counting Workman in the 29? He would be a candidate to go. Also, there is probably no spot for Swihart on a playoff roster if Vasquez is back.

The thing about Swihart that put the biggest smile on my face recently was him throwing out a base stealer. You can talk about framing pitches and blocking balls etc., but you can’t have the opposition playing running bases against your catcher.
