  1. He did put his career and health on the line by pitching in the 2004 post season and agreeing to that experimental procedure. It shouldn't be forgotten that he pitched most of the year with Novocaine shots in that ankle. He laid it on the line like few athletes ever have. Also, the FO owes it to the fans not to have to many heroes from that team walk away.
  2. The most viloent part of the swing is the rotation of the torso. You cant hit with a bad oblique. You've got a better chance with a bad wrist.
  3. Just because a guy doesn't have Home Run hitting power doesn't make him fall into the category of scrappy. Harold "Pee Wee" Reese may not have hit a lot of HRs, but he had good power for a middle infielder in his day. He hit 20-30 doubles and a good number of triples. He was a pretty good run producer as well. Reese regularly stole 20-30 bases each year. Rizzuto was very fast although he wasn't allowed to do a lot of stealing in the Yankee lineup. Both of these guys had tremendous quickness in the field and great range. Rizzuto won an MVP when the league had DiMaggio and Williams. Reese wasn't a scrappy SSon the Dodgers. He was the captain. These guys may have been small, but they were supremely talented. I would liken Pedroia more to a Billy Martin. Martin was scrappy.
  4. He'll probably win too, because fanboy, mancrushing Yankee fns will stuff the ballot box. That would be travesty. Where the hell is Larry Bowa. How in the heck could he be left off.
  5. If anyone is going to be in Ft. Myers from Feb 28th to March 5th PM me.
  6. Here's my team: P: Kaat C: Bench 1B: Hernandez 2B: Maz SS: Belanger 3B: Robinson OF: Clemente OF: Mays OF: Yaz
  7. Bellhorn wasn't a midget, and when he made contact he had legit pop.
  8. Has Cashman gone nuts?
  9. http://www.boston.com/sports/articles/2007/02/25/second_chance/ This article has a good bit of discussion about Pedroia's big swing. No one likes it. Jim Rice was the first critic of his swing last year. I am concerned that no one has worked with him to adjust his swing. Big swings are exploited by Major League pitchers. I don't know what he thinks he's doing. He's a midget. He'll hit maybe 10 HRs. They need him to have productive at bats and move runners along.
  10. There was a lot of damage to the shoulder. Doctor's are not sure how long he's had the damage. It's very possible that he was pitching injured in 2005.
  11. I still think it is possible that we get Helton in a salary dump for prospects, but not for Manny.
  12. It's always been a job. One of the reasons that Manny is so great is that he doesn't get caught up in the BS and hoopla. He prepares hard and approaches his AB's in a very professional manner. He may not hustle all the time and he may space out at times, but he knows that he is paid for his hitting, not his base running. He takes his hitting very seriously.
  13. http://www.rawlingsgoldglove.com/voting/default.aspx Yaz, Evans and Aparicio are the only Red Sox nominated. George "Boomer" Scott and Fred Lynn are conspicuously absent. Yaz was my hero, but even I was surprised that his range factor was more than double that of the other nominees, except for Clemente. Yaz's range factor was more than 50% higher than Clemente's
  14. Shocking and sad.
  15. Do you know how the cancer treatments will affect his stamina and abilities? I don't, and I am not sure the Red Sox know either. It would be very imprudent for the Red Sox to include him in their rotation plans for 2007, because they don't know if he'll be back at full strength and even if he is at full strength, he still hasn't proved that he can hold down a spot in a major league rotation. Anything the Red Sox get from tyhis kid in 2007 will be a bonus, but they should not be expecting anything from him or relying upon him in any way.
  16. I am on the same page with you. This whole thing has been blown out of proportion. ARod is acting like a whining wimp and Jeter is behaving like a petty schoolboy. They both need to grow up. We all knew that ARod was a self-absorbed whining wimp. The surprise here is Jeter's behavior. He has not acted like the consummate professional and team player that he is portrayed as being in his press clippings. He has not be magnanimous or supportive towards ARod. He has not comported himself in a manner that would be expected of a team captain. Captain Intangibles...not!
  17. He's got chicken legs like the Babe.
