  1. He looked absolutely terrible in his first two ABs, but he crushed that. Lester is dealing now. His pitch count is 100, but I'd send him out for 1 more inning, then mix and match the 8th and Papelbon in the 9th.
  2. It is very hard for the ball to find grass with Hunter and Matthews in the OF.
  3. I'm not questioning your judgment, but rather Sciosia's judgment.
  4. Then he shouldn't be batting 8th.
  5. Garrett Anderson batting 2nd against Lester? I realize that he is 3 for 7 against Lester, but that seems to be a tough matchup for the Angels. I am also surprised that Matthews, another lefty hitter, is playing.
  6. Injuries is an excuse. The Red Sox lost a ton of games by All Star caliber players, traded their best offensive player, played another 6 weeks without their second best player, and lost Schilling for the season. The rays were missing Crawford for the last six weeks, Longoria for a month, and they were essentially without a closer for the entire season. The Yankees problems run much deeper than injuries. They stunk. There record is quite misleading. They got as close as they did, because they picked up some ground when the games really no longer mattered to the Rays and the Sox. They were a third place team pretty much wire to wire this season and they were fighting to stay out of 4th place. Your aging offense, relic SS, idiot manager and unaccomplished GM will have to overcome numerous obstacles to return to the post season next year. Among those obstacles are: the relic at SS with no range (he will hurt the sinkerballer Wang tremendously) and the idiot manager and GM.
  7. No one in the NY media referred to Torre as a "clown".
  8. From the beginning of the season, I told you that Girardi was a boob and that it was only a matter of time before he gets run out of town. Yankee fans have been so confused by the fact that their prize rookies Hughes and Kennedy produced zero wins and Joba got injured that they really weren't watching the horrible job being done by Girardi. The NY Press has thought him to be a clown for some time now, and they are finally printing it. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/09/27/2008-09-27_joe_girardi_makes_trouble_for_himself_wi.html?page=0
  9. Francona says that Beckett will pitch game 3.
  10. Not two years in a row. I don't remember ever getting eliminated on the last day of the regular season.
  11. What channel is carrying the Bears game?
  12. I wouldn't know what that is like.
  13. Lowell looks like he is in bad shape.
  14. It looks like Mo thinks he needs surgery. http://www.nypost.com/seven/09262008/sports/yankees/rivera_to_have_mri_exam_on_shoulder_130847.htm
  15. Yes, he would heave had to stay away from serious injury for two years, but if he did, IMO he would have earned more money. He has never had serious chronic injury problems, e.g. bad back, knees etc. Now, he has earned himself the reputation as not just crazy, wacky, Manny being Manny, but also as a malcontent with a violent streak. Teams will back away from this type of craziness and unpredictability. IMO, he will not get a 4yr/$60 million deal, never mind a $100 m deal. Not at his age.
  16. It's truly amazing that he has pitched for this many years without a serious arm injury. I don't cheer for injuries, but without MO the Yankee demise will continue to get worse.
  17. ...and Manny may have overplayed his hand as well. There is the "crazy factor." Teams will be very reluctant to invest $100 million in crazy. If he played hard in Boston this season without the drama and had put up the #'s that he is putting up, the $20 millon option would have been picked up and the same goes for the 2010 season. After that, he certainly would've found some team to give him 2yr/20million. Frankly, I do not think he will get anything approaching a 4yr/$60m guaranteed contract. It ain't gonna happen.
  18. Pedro was lifted in the 7th inning with 2 on and no one out. The score is tied at 3-3. He looked like he wanted to cry as he left the mound. He's got nothing left in his tank, but whatever he had left he left on the mound tonight. He struck out 9 and on the first pitch by Rincon, he gave up a 3 run homer. I think we might have seen Pedro pitch for the last time. He was a pleasure tro watch.
  19. In my opinion, he is the best pitcher of the last 50 years, maybe even of all time. Good luck to you Pedro. I'd love to see you spin a gem.
  20. No they won't be fine without him. Pencil in 4 pop outs for Kotsay every game if Drew can't play.
  21. Papelbon is giving away the bases to the fans. That's pretty cool.
  22. He probably turned down the Police Commissioners job for this gig.
