  1. Kottaras and Brown stink. They are not major league starting catchers.
  2. So, you don't think offering Youkilis as trade bait wouldn't get the attention of some teams? I think Youkilis would net a really good player in return. This is a 30 HR 115 RBI guy with a .314 avg and a .390 OBP who has a gold glove at 1B and can play 3B, and he is in his prime. He would generate substantial offers. Lowell will get you an inconsistent middle reliever. It's not my job to know what players are available. That's up to Theo and Co. It is, however, fairly obvious that Youk will bring value back, and Lowell will not.
  3. The whole discussion is based on the Red Sox getting Teixeira. 2: Teixeira does nothing for the lost depth at 3B, which is our weakest farm position by a lot. Weaker than catcher? The Red Sox minor league catchers stink. The best prospect is Wagner and he is several years away.
  4. They will get very little in return for Lowell, but they should be able to get high quality for Youk. That's the difference. IMO your team is best served when you trade your players who have maximized their trade value. Conversely, you don't trade a player whose value is low because of injury.
  5. How do you come to that conclusion, if the Sox sign Teixeira and get a really good player in return for Youkilis?
  6. In this case, I am relying on the opinion of others. Everything that i have read about the guy based on scouts evaluations is that he is defensively challenged and has a long way to go to be an everyday receiver.
  7. Salty is not ready to handle daily catching duties for any team in 2008. Giving up $ + Lowell + Bowden would be a complete steal by Texas. I'd rather trade Youk + others for Russell Martin. I am not in favor of just giving away Lowell.
  8. That's a steep price for a catcher with no catching skills and an unproven bat. I would not do it.
  9. Theo can package Youk up with whatever else it woud take. Certainly, Youkilis could be the centerpiece.
  10. So would I, but I think the Sox would get next to nothing for Lowell.
  11. If the choice comes down to Youk or Teixeira at approximately the same contract, who do you take. If Youk has another year like this year, he'll be looking for big money and a long term contract. If the Sox go after Teixeira now, they can get a really good player in return. That's the move. Nothing else makes sense to me if the Sox sign Teixeira. Lowell looked like a broken down war horse. Teams will not give a lot in return for a guy who may not physically recover. Teams will not give much for a Power Hitting DH (Ortiz) who has yet to prove that he has fully recovered from a wrist injury. I wouldn't be happy to see Youk leave, but I'd rather have Teixeira. And trading Youk could get a SS or pitcher.
  12. It would be very tough to get enough playing time for Youk, Ortiz, Teixeira, and Lowell. None of these gus are platoon players. They all play 150+ games a year. when healthy. If they have injury situations like Ortiz, Lowell and Drew had last year, there would be no problem. Youk could even play some left field in Fenway if Bay could play some RF. Edit: If they sign Teixeira, someone would have to get traded. After the injuries from last season, Lowell's and Ortiz's value would be way down. Why sell low. The best trading commodity would be Youkilis. He's approaching his FA years. He may be difficult to keep anyway. He could net the Sox a really good player in return.
  13. About half way through the season Matsuzaka should break down from throwing in the WBC. A rehabilitated Schilling would fill the void nicely. If he can get himself to the point where he can hit 90-91, he'd be a nice addition. No one is better in the playoffs.
  14. Carlos Zambrano too
  15. I hate this. Many of the guys that participated the last time had arm problems during the season.
  16. Anyone to retire after a 20 win season is a complete imbecile. My estimation of Stanford has gone down. My prediction is that Moose, who is a miserable prick of a person, will be divorced within a year. His wife will not be able to stand having him around 12 mos of the year. He will then attempt a comeback. It is reminiscent to me of Ryan Sandberg when he retired to spend more time with his family. His wife filed for divorce three weeks later, and the following year Sandberg was begging for his job. He took a pay cut from $7 million to $1 million. A player who walks away from the game while he is still highly marketable is an idiot. That's just my opinion.
  17. This guy walks too many batters. His WHIP of 1.23 is nothing to brag about for a late inning guy.
