  1. Didn't Burnett get called out by management for sitting out with minor aches in 2007? I think he may have a little dog in him.
  2. Ortiz is not hypothesizing about "laying down" Manny. He's talking about Manny being Manny who mashes. That Manny could have made the difference in game 7.
  3. By the time Bucholz is ready, Wakefield could be retired. Lowe took the ball every 5 days and as frustrating as he can be at times, he is nowhere near the roller coaster stomach churning ride that is Wakefield.
  4. Gregg blows.
  5. I'd rather hand him the ball every 5th day instead of Wakefield, and I'd prefer Lowe over Bulcholz in 2009.
  6. I guess this means that they are not going to get involved in the Texeira sweepstakes.
  7. They were a better team with Manny. There's no mystery about that. From the day he launched one over the monster on his first swing in a Boston uniform, it was obvious that he is a special talent. Would the Sox have won a third championship if he had stayed, yes, it is very possible that they would have won. There's nothing wrong with Ortiz expressing that thought. Manny let him and the rest of his Red Sox team mates down by acting like a punk after pocketing $160 million of the team's money.
  8. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8761502/L.A.-offers-Manny-2nd-highest-salary-ever-in-MLB It seems that they are only offering a two year/$50 million deal. I don't see him getting a $100 million deal.
  9. They wouldn't necessarily have to trade Lowell. Youk would play some 3B when Lowell needs a rest. Lowell may not be ready in April. Lowell and Rex could take some DH time when Papi's wrist is acting up. Youk could play some LF.
  10. Manny has a quick release, but he doesn't have a good arm. He can't make the throw to third. I hope the Yankees give him a 5 yr $150 million contract.
  11. My initial posts were to express the fact that Schilling should have Carte Blanche with Red Sox fans who I reminded that the Sox haven't won a Championship without him. That post was met with a response that Schilling wouldn't have made a difference this season. I didn't know how that conclusion could be reached, so I pointed out that Schilling had never been trashed like the Sox pitchers were trashed in those 3 straight games. I used game 4 as an example where I thought he could have made a difference. Substituting Schilling for Wakefield in a post season game seemed to be the no-brainer example of a game where he could have made the difference. I don't think anyone would ever start Wakefield over Schilling in a post season game, and I don't think it is a stretch to say that Schilling probably would have fared better than Wakefield who was gave up a few nitro-shots. Schilling for Wakefield is a no-brainer. Would it guarantee a game 4 win? No, but it is not a big stretch to say that he might have made the difference in that game. He's shut down better hitting teams in big games. You really don't need to analyze all the variables. He's a much better big game pitcher than Wakefield, and Wakefield stunk up the place on that night.
  12. I was just joking about it. I just wish he would retire.
  13. It's not like I am wishing him to get a serious illness. I just want him to get a non-life threatening condition resulting in the end of his mediocre career. He has stuck around longer than any mediocre ballplayer in my time.
  14. I just wish that his last injury had been something more serious like a rotator cuff injury. I can't stand watching him pitch. With a $150 million offense and defense behind him, he no better than a coin flip's chance of winning. Knuckleballers are tremendously inconsistent. Only the Niekro's had any real ML success. That is why I don't consider him a real pitcher. He's a freak show with a trick pitch. Save the wear and tear on the team and flip a coin with the opposing team on the day Wakefield is scheduled to pitch.
