  1. I should edit my earlier post for the sake of accuracy. "Donnie-No Rings" would be a more appropriate username.
  2. Wouldn't a better screen name be "Yankee-No Rings"?
  3. I agree with you. Jorge is probably heading for DH. before the Texeira signing, I thought that he might be heading to 1B, which is why I thought the Yankees would pass on Tex. If Jorge can't throw, there will be a logjam at DH and no room at 1B. Also, where will Jeter play when Yankee management finally realizes that he can't play SS? ARod is not going anywhere. I thought Jeter might end up at 1B, before they got Tex.
  4. The original post was not political commentary. I was merely questioning why Example I has been so grumpy lately. Others took political offense to a very innocuous comment. It had nothing to do with Bush, and I never mentioned -----, not even in my reply. You are the first one to do that, and I agree with you that it has not place in a Sox prospects thread, so why don't you go back and edit it out of your post.
  5. Differences? I wanted the team to build it's pitching, rather than go after Teixeira. The FO had different priorities. We were both disappointed that the Red Sox did not get him after making him a priority, so we have no difference there. I will not make excuses for them not getting their man. There could be many reasons why they didn't get him, and there is no one single definitive story even from the parties involved. Posters on a forum are merely guessing. Why should I engage in pointless guessing about why the outcome was the outcome? They set out to get him and they didn't. Their plan failed. If Tex had no intention ever of coming to Boston, because his wife's hair stylist is in NY or some other reason, I still don't let the FO off the hook. If he was unsignable by the Sox, the should have done their due diligence and known that, then they could have gone in a different direction with their resources and maybe signed Burnett or made an early start on some serious trade negotiations. Differences? We both wanted the FO to get their man. ---------------
  6. Haha, I forgot the Obama supporters here view him as a savior. I hate to break it to you chumps, but the country doesn't need saving. We've survived a great depression, World Wars and a Civil War. Second, he is a politician, and no politician can be trusted. I was just poking fun at Example who is probably the most ardent supporter of Obama on this forum. I thought he would be in a better mood considering that he will be President in a couple of weeks. Lastly, what in my statement is offensive. I called the man a socialist icon. Is the term socialist a pejorative term. There are socialist parties in many European governments. Example I is on record as having Socialist beliefs. Should I have used the term liberal icon instead or is that also a pejorative term? He acknowledges that he is not a conservative. What's the deal with you Obama groupies, you will go ballistic at the slightest impugning of the man? Are you kidding? After 8 years of retards running their mouths in the most outrageous ways about Bush, including endless conspiracy theories about him being complicit in 9/11? Get a grip.
  7. Whoa! Come in off the ledge. You seem to be the one who is suicidal. Did anything in my post accuse the FO of being stupid, cheap, etc.? Teixeira was the #1 FO priority and they didn't achieve their objective. You can call it what you want, but not achieving an objective is failure to me.
  8. I am not surprised that you cannot recognize sarcasm. Based on your earlier posts in another thread, you also think that excitement enhances judgment. Jeesh!
  9. I can read the scouting reports just like anyone else. Based on what I read, I think I can evaluate trades involving our prospects as well as any other fan. However, I still don't get excited about a prospect until he plays for the big club. What is to get excited about? If I haven't seen the guy play, why would I get excited? He might never even wear the Red Sox uniform. My lack of excitement doesn't diminish my ability to evaluate a trade. Excitement is an emotional state. It doesn't enhance judgment. As a social worker, I thought you would know that. I hope the New Year finds you in good cheer, because you have been grumpier than usual lately, which surprises me in light of the fact that your icon is about to assume the Presidency.
  10. The Red Sox are not interested in Lowe. Apparently there are so many lame pitchers in physical therapy that there is no need to sign a reliable starting pitcher. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  11. The post mortem rationalization of the Teixeira is getting boring. We are convincing ourselves that it was his life long dream of being a Yankee and his wife sings "I love NY." It's all speculation and rationalization. The players statements after the signing are canned BS that they feed to a willing press for the home town fans of his new teams to gobble up like gullible fools. The only facts regarding this signing that can be verified are that he was the Red Sox #1 off season priority and they didn't sign him. Fail by the FO. Everything else is BS.
  12. This is probably not a hard decision, because Penny is likely to spend a lot of time on the DL.
  13. It seems the Mets have offered him $12 million per season for 3 years. That's pretty reasonable considering the Sox guaranteed $5 million to a pitcher who may be on the DL all season. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/
  14. I am a fan not the GM. I don't see these guys play, so I don't get excited about them. Most of them never make it, so why should I get excited. I hear about these guys, but I don't get excited about them until they get to Fenway.
  15. Not even the slightest bit. Let the FO get excited about him. I don't watch Pawtuckett or the Sea Dogs.
  16. Considering his enormous weight, does CC stand for Chocolate Cake?
  17. There are no other possibilities? If I told you yesterday that the Sox would try to make a move for HanRam, you would have said that I was nuts. Why are you limiting yourself to the three remaining FA's. I'm not, nor should the FO limit themselves to the FA pool. Who is available? I don't know, but I guess if the Marlins will entertain offers about HanRam, anyone is available. Penny is a low cost, high risk move.
  18. I'd like to see an All-Manning SuperBowl.
  19. How about Wade Miller? He's was comparable to Penny. How did that work out? Bartolo Colon? He actually won a Cy Young. Going further back there was Ramon Martinez. Penny is every bit as likely to fail as those others and either rot on the DL or just stink. Penny is not a low risk move. He is a high risk move, because he is a long shot to return to form. The fact that he will not pitch much if he bombs out doesn't make it a low risk move. Who will take his place when he is rotting on the DL... Clay Bucholz who cost the team the AL East Crown in 2008 or David Pauley? I am gagging. By going with Penny who has a high probability of failing, the FO is eschewing other more reliable options who will not be available in May when Penny bombs out. Declining to pursue a reliable option in favor of a pitcher who has a high probability of failing doesn't seem like a low risk baseball move to me. Yes, it is low cost, but not low risk to the objective of winning.
