  1. After all of the moves made by the Yankees, they have not made any marked improvement in the middle of the field. they still have a statue playing SS, no CFer and a catcher coming off arm surgery. Defense will continue to be a weakness for their team.
  2. The off season will end without a major acquisition for a second year in a row. Last year, the major acquisition was Sean (No Homers) Casey. This year we got some reliever guy Ramirez from KC for the starting CF Crisp.
  3. To platoon with Gabe Kapler?
  4. Lucchino today said that the Sox don't have to react to everything the Yankees do, but he acknowledged that each year the Sox need to make moves to improve the team, because the other teams, especially the Yankees will improve themselves.
  5. Yeah, cold weather and no baseball does that to me. But I don't like the direction this prospect is taking. I guess he doesn't have what it takes to be an offensive MLB player. Pitchers take a lot of time to develop.
  6. Bu.t he is a terrible fielder and he can't play CF or RF
  7. The Red Sox need a starting pitcher. Beckett needs to bounce back and Ortiz and lowell are come off injuries. Drew still has back issues. No more Manny to anchor the lineup. The yankees will probably eventually sign him, giving them a killer offense to go with a strong rotation. The Sox should sign Teixeira. He's a must sign. The guy is a stud.
  8. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/ This is the answer to Sabbathia and Burnett? Who is this guy?
  9. Sounds like a bust. I've seen this show before. The supposed stud with all the tools who can play a position or pitch. The last one that I remember they traded for Frank Viola. He was a mediocre reliever for the Twins for a couple of years.
  10. This kid will be sent back before opening day. This is a waste of time.
  11. Theo made two Rule 5 acquisitions yesterday. That should even the playing field. Yes, the Yankees are the favorites in 2009 after these acquisitions. The Sox need another starter, maybe two, if Beckett turns yellow down the stretch again. Re-treads like a post surgical Smoltz or a broken down Penny are not the answer. It reminds me of the days when they picked up damaged goods like Saberhagen and Ramon Martinez to complement Pedro.
  12. Any day now the Red Sox will start planting stories in the papers about how they can't compete financially with the Yankees. The claims of poverty are coming.
  13. They'd have to practically give these guys away.
  14. if they start coming inside on him, he'll adjust and pull balls into the LF corner and off the monster.
  15. That should ensure that they don't make the playoffs.
  16. Welcome to the forum. Just about anything you need to know about the Red Sox can can be found here.
  17. It's a waste of space on the server to discuss a bag of waste like Traber. Minor league depth? Who cares. The vendors at Pawtuckett have more value to the organization.
  18. It's a good move by the Yankees. They have all the leverage. They also have the flexibility to go after the other FA pitchers without worrying that they'll be stuck with Pettitte after they round out their staff. If they had offered arbitration, the players get to shop themselves and have the Yankees as a captive buyer. Draft choices are not worth the flexibility that they'd be losing.
  19. This is just a waste. The guy needs two good seasons to elevate himself to journeyman status.
  20. Saying it to a member of the press isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Everyone is available for the right deal. Martin is the kind of player or whom you would make an overwhelming offer. Youkilis would be a good start. Package him with Bucholz or Bowden and Masterson.
  21. You are ignoring the talent differential that would come back in a trade for Youk as compared to a trade for Lowell. I wouldn't know. In my post I said that I might go for such a trade if they were part of a package. I'd want to get Laird with Young. Young is a better SS than the Sox have had since Nomar's prime.
  22. I wouldn't trade Youkilis for any of these guys unless they came as part of a larger package. I like Martin. I'd take a package of Laird and Michael Young. What about some prospects with either Jhonny Peralta or Miguel Tejada. There are lots of pitchers that could help the staff. Again, I have no idea who is available. I was surprised when the Red Sox got Beckett. I didn't know he was available at that time.
  23. If I had verifiable information about who might be available in return for Youk or Lowell, I'd be working in some teams FO. I don't have a FO job, so I don't know who is available. However, for the right deal anyone is available.
