1. Again, here is the link to my initial post. http://www.talksox.com/forum/damn-yankees/12144-2009-yankees-game-thread-64.html#post408355 Everthing that followed about value were irrelevant and ineffectual attempts to refute a factually correct statement. Yes, I engaged in your irrelevant arguments in some of my posts, but that doesn't make them any less irrelevant to my initial post.
2. I never used the word "elite" nor "great". I love how things get twisted when my words are right out there in black and white. I said he was "pretty good" and "very good". Does that translate to "elite"? my goodness.
3. I am not talking about any of the above. These are all your arguments and assertions which you and others have made in response to my very simple, but accurate an yet unrefuted factual assertion that went something like this: Damon's on-field production has not declined in the 4 years since he left, as many had predicted that it would. Here is the link to my original post: http://www.talksox.com/forum/damn-yankees/12144-2009-yankees-game-thread-64.html#post408355 But keep trying to refute this assertion with your irrelevant arguments.
4. The lineup is more potent with Papi's empty helmet taking the ABs than with Baldelli as DH.
5. Boy, you are a dumb ass. I debated your theories regarding value to entertain myself, but as arguments to refute my factual assertion, they are irrelevant and ineffectual. Here, once again, just to leave no doubt about my position is my factual assertion: Damon's on-field production has not declined in the 4 years since he left, as many had predicted that it would. His production speaks for itself. Look at his numbers year over year. You don't need to refer to any conversion table or anything. It's a fact, not a strawman. Jeesh, i thought you are an attorney. God help your clients.
6. So you declare that there is only one official method of determining a peer group for purposes of determining the value of a players performance? Damon's defensive position is left field. I don't watch much NL, but Damon compares pretty well with most AL left fielders that I have seen this season. Again, none of this is relevant to my assertion that Damon's on-field production has not declined in the 4 years since he left, as many had predicted that it would. That is an irrefutable fact that several of you keep trying to refute with various interpretations of value. His production speaks for itself. Look at his numbers year over year. You don't need to refer to any conversion table or anything. pat-pat:D
7. I don't think I am missing anything here. His offensive production is what it is. It does not diminish because of a change of defensive position. What might change is his market value, because he may be playing a position that has a larger supply of big offensive producers. That is just a product of economics laws of supply and demand. My argument has never been about his market value and whether or not his market value has changed. His production has not declined. It has improved in some aspects. That is what I have been saying. Lots of people expected his offensive production to decline due to age and injury, not due to relative market values of COFersb and CFers. They were wrong. He is a still a very highly productive offensive player.
8. I never said that I was comparing Damon to Rickey Henderson or Gwynn. I used them as prominent examples of COFers that were not power hitters, without drawing a comparison. You suggested that I was making a comparison to them and then you suggested that I should compare Damon to Pierre, which i think is ridiculous. Damon has a very good chance of ending his career with 3000 hits, 1800+ runs, 1200-1300 RBI, 250+ HRs and 400 SBs. Those are borderline HOF numbers. I am not comparing him to Gwynn or Henderson, but he is a pretty good offensive player, and he is far superior to Juan Pierre. I can understand your frustration at arguing with me as your arguments are specious and poorly reasoned and I insist on pointing it out to you. Damon's offensive production has remained at his pre-2006 level or improved over the last four years. Yet , you argue that it has actually declined because he changed defensive position. That argument doesn't hold water.
9. Strawman? His offensive production has stayed the same or improved, but you argue that a change of position has decreased his offensive value. It's hard to follow the logic. You think that Damon is comparable to Juan Pierre? This too is ridiculous. Damon will have about 2,400 hits, 1000 RBI, 1500 Runs, 200 HRs, and .793 OPS by the end of this season. Have you checked Pierre's stats recently?
10. I never said he was great. That word was never used in any of my posts. I said that he is a very good offensive player, and that is true regardless of his defensive position.
11. Offensive players are judged by how well they perform a role in the lineup. Damon is a very good lead off or number 2 hitter. He is not a number 3 or 4 hitter. The defensive outfield position that he plays is irrelevant to his offensive production. Ichiro is a corner outfielder and Ricky Henderson played LF for much of his career. Your "not a COF" attempt to denigrate Damon's offensive value is a specious argument.
12. Theere was no wind tunnel the last 3 years and there is none on the road. He is just a very good offensive player. He had just reached his peak when he walked and he is still there.
13. Here's a picture of Boggs at the tournament taken with my friend's phone. I cut my friend out of the picture, because I wasn't sure that he would have wanted his picture posted on the INTERNET. Edit: As a Yankee fan, my friend did not want his picture on a Red Sox Forum.
14. I don't think that is going to happen. He has a $5 million guarantee, and he has been pitching better lately. He's going nowhere.
15. When Youkilis is activated, Bailey should go right back to AAA. He didn't distinguish himself with the bat and his glove is horrible. BTW a slumping Ortiz is a better DH than Baldelli. If Tito wanted to make some use of Baldelli this weekend, he should have put him in RF to give the brittle J.D. Drew a break. J.D. could have DH'd in one of the games.
16. Yes, I remember that episode. They pantsed Boggs. lol!!!
17. With Mo out of the game, Gardenhire could have taken the advantage. Instead of going to his best-- Nathan, who would've liked a chance at redemption, he went to that puss-bag Crain who makes a career at losing to the Yanks.
