Plenty of guys throw as hard as Papelbon. Being Papelbon takes more than velocity. It takes incredible command, nerves of steel and a short memory. He also has the ability to make the adrenaline rush of a pressure situation work to his advantage. That type of adrenaline can destroy a pitcher's concentration and command. It is so much more than velocity. It is no mistake that he is the most dominating reliever that the Sox have had since Dick Radatz more than 40 years ago. They have had plenty of hard throwers throughout the years, but none have even come close. You are seriously underestimating his value.

Yes, sadly, I have seen this movie before. With those other guys, they had age/injury related issues. Papelbon will be right in his prime when he becomes a FA. Hopefully, the FO will see the value in keeping him. I don't want to go back to the days of Heathcliff Slocumb et. al.

Say good bye to being a consistent playoff contender too. Those years that they make the playoffs by less than 5 games they will finish out of the money, because his replacement will be responsible for 3 - 5 more blown saves.

He got a taste. He learned while he was here, but he is not ready to be a consistent contributor. He'll be back soon enough, either because of injury or trade. Right now, if I were managing, he would be my last option in the bullpen. Saito would be ahead of him. I wouldn't be in a rush to trade Saito unless there is an overwhelming offer. He has experience closing games. He is a seasoned vet with good stuff. He healthy and he's cheap. The guy is a tremendous value. The Sox have more time for Bard to develop.

Sox going to 6 man rotation starting June 25th

There has been no commitment to a 6 man rotation. They have talked about separating starts by pitchers who are more likely to tax the bullpen. Any 6 man rotation would be temporary. Someone will fall out of that rotation after a few turns based on poor performance or due to a trade. -
He should give them part of his salary.

He would crush her. She is just about 5 feet tall tipping the scales at about 100 lbs. He's about 6'5" 260 or 270. -

Few players in history have achieved what he has from 2003- 2007. I can't think of any players that maintained that level of performance for more than a few years.
