  1. Have you had any successful relationships with women?
  2. A heads up to Jacoby_Ellsbury, **** is not a term of affection.
  3. He might have something useful to add if the topic is which ass cheek gets the needle.
  4. The big problem with Wake going on the DL is that he is one of the guys who has been able to pitch into the 6th, 7th and 8th. Buchholz is likely to be a another 5 inning pitcher. This will not help the bullpen.
  5. There's no way that you get Hanley for Buchholz straight up. They'd want additional pieces like Masterson and/or Bowden. That would be too much pitching to give up without getting any pitching in return.
  6. I'd move him for an elite pitcher. I don't like moving pitching unless pitching is coming back. If Penny had been moved a few weeks ago (as suggested by some) for a spare part bench player or a minor league prospect, this DL move would have caused Bowden to join Buchholz in the rotation and Tito would be managing without a net, because another DL move would cause a further dip into the minors or putting Masterson in the rotation and disrupting an already overworked bullpen. If they want to get a bat, let them trade minor league bats or lower level pitching prospects. I don't think it is wise to trade the organization's most valuable pitching prospects unless experienced pitching is the target.
  7. That's the reason for the insurance. One more injury to the starting staff, and they have to start scraping the bottom of the barrel. I can hear the screaming now that Masterson and Bowden are not the bottom of the barrel. I would not be comfortable with either of those guys being in the rotation down the stretch. I am hoping that Dice K and Wake can get healthy in case Penny or Smoltz goes down.
  8. If Smoltz loses his next two starts with similar results, I'd pull the plug on him. 1-5 without much in the way of encouraging pitching would be enough for me. Should we ride his surgically repaired shoulder to 2-7 or 3-8? I don't think so. How long would you stick with him? I don't think getting one of the best pitchers in baseball would be a panic move, and the thought of getting him is in no way negative. It maybe a pipe-dream, but it is surely not negative.
  9. He needs to realize that 6 runs didn't happen form one bad pitch. His ego will not let him accept or admit that he stunk. From the same Globe article: The Dude doesn't have a grip on reality. The Sox need to realize fast that he is going to be a waste.
  10. Most guys need to be told when to hang em up. The Sox need to stop wasting time. They are trying to show the great Smoltz respect, but if that results in a 1-7 record before reality sets in then that could cost the team the playoffs. They owe him no respect. They gave him a chance. This respect stuff is garbage. The Braves paid him millions while he couldn't perform. he didn't give the money back, so why would he expect the Braves to pay $5 million for a broken down relic that would pitch half a season, at most.
  11. You don't think they will baby Buchholz by putting him on a strict pitch count. I think they will, and he'll be our Joba. I say get Halladay and pitch him at least 8 innings every start for the next year and a half. Hopefully it will payoff in some World Championships. Then let him take his worn out 33/34 year old arm to free agency.
  12. I was trying to not be too critical. My honest opinion is that the team wasted $5 million on him. Cut the loss now and move on. How many more starts do we need to realize that he is not John Smoltz anymore?
  13. What the team needs is a pitcher that can pitch into the 7th and 8th inning. Penny, Dice k, and Smoltz can't do it. I'm not sure that Buchholz is the answer as they will probably baby him and he'll only be a 5 inning pitcher. Too many 5 inning pitchers will destroy the bullpen. They need a guy who can go deep into the game.
  14. Surgically repaired pitchers are going to have inconsistent velocity. It makes matters even worse when you are 42 years old.
  15. Salty had all of 6 HRs this season and took him out to deep CF. Three HRs in an inning is not merely making an adjustment. They pummeled him, and they should have hit him earlier as he had left a few hangers in earlier innings.
  16. SpudBoy pointed out that he was leaving pitches up earlier in the game, but he wasn't getting hurt. He's got no life on the fastball, so he needs to be perfect.
  17. Smoltz after last night's game: His ego is getting in the way. He needs to acknowledge that he has stunk so far and fast figure out whether he can do better. I expect this kind of statement from Ian kennedy, not John Smoltz. He has been great, so he should know suck when he produces it.
  18. Members of the Mets organization are unlikely to speak about this in a public way. I have a fair bit of contact with the Mets through my nephew and I have never heard a word about this. The stories in the press were based on anonymous sources I think. Dipre, if you are really tight with someone from the organization, you might get some honest feedbackn but I doubt the person would want you to use his name. If the accusations are true, it would be a very sensitive issue for the Mets, and anyone going on public record about it would risk losing his job.
  19. They could catch us. If we fall behind the Yankees and if our chances of catching them seem slim, I will root against the Rays. Until then, I hope they catch you and beat you for the wild card. I want utter destruction of the Yankee empire.
