    2008 he had a wrist injury that usually requires surgery. It basically took him until June 2009 to fully come back from that injury. Seasons with injuries are not good indicators of a decline in skill. This year has been pretty special in that he didn't have much support around him.

    The decline with a big guy like Ortiz doesn't usually come in 6-7 HR annual increments. There is usually a sudden precipitous drop off followed by a quick end. If next year isn't that year and he ends up in Yankee Stadium, be prepared for the possibility of 40 bombs almost entirely against right handed pitching. That's one scary platoon player.

    He's hit more HRs this season than last season, so where are you getting the 6-7 HR/yr decline?

    I would be. He'd probably launch 6 or more bombs against just Lackey and Beckett.

    No one sees the possibility that if the Sox lowball Ortiz and try to get two years from him for the cost of the 2011 option that the Yanks might swoop in and give him the full option amount for 2011? With that porch he'd hit 40-45 just playing against righties.

    At least the press is writing about it. So much of this season has been about stupid play and poor fundamentals. There is no excuse for it. That is the fault of the manager and the coaches. The other big variable not related to injury was the horrendous bullpen. That was the fault of the FO. The last line of the article indicates that Ortiz was not too happy with last night's half assed effort. The guy doesn't like losing.     Salty is not even a good backup catcher. Theo needs to give up on him like the Rangers and the Braves did.

    More classic stupidity by the 2010 Red Sox. A base hit to LF where Hall bobbles the ball. Instead of realizing that the play was lost at the plate and keeping the tying the run at first base, he heaves the ball home to the catcher that can't catch. The runner goes to second base. The next batter singles to tie the game. f***ing stupidity.!! The trademark of the 2010 Red Sox.

    That accident was a couple of years ago. We were involved in another major collision on August 29th as we were taking things up to Boston to help my daughter move. We were the third car in a three car collision. Some kid coming back up to school didn't notice that the traffic had stopped in the right lane of I-91 to exit to I-84 at Hartford. The girl hit the pickup truck behind us at such a high speed that her van went airborne and started flipping/rolling. It ended up upside down and they had to cut her out of the vehicle. Amazingly, she was alive and they told us that she only hurt her shoulder. All of us got taken to the hospital-- 6 people from the three vehicles. I told my wife that she was extremely luck to be in two such violent collisions and survive. The middle car got it the worst taking a major rear end impact and then colliding with us. The driver was bleeding and had a tooth in his hand. His daughter was also bleeding and crying. They were about 10 minutes from their destination at UConn. Here's the back of the pickup truck.
