  1. You are right about that. Girardi could never handle Manny. Girardi was on the TV pregame crew in 2007 when Manny styled on what turned out to be a game winning single that hit the top of the OF wall (against Cleveland I think). The next day Girardi was ripping on Manny like crazy. This was a minor Manny being Manny transgression and Girardi entirely overlooked the fact that it was the game winning hit. I thought Girardi was a jerk about it. I told my son that I have to laugh when piece of s*** .240 lifetime hitter complains about the way that a HOF players plays the game. He could never handle Manny. You are right about that.
  2. Manny would be a typical ball-breaking move by the Yankees. He would fit nicely into that lineup and the Yankees never pass on an opportunity to stick it to Red Sox Nation. They probably will not go more than $5 million, and I don't think Manny plays for short money. If you remember last year's off season, Damon was begging for crumbs and the Yanks offered him $1-2 million.
  3. If you take away his bad starts, no one compares to Ortiz against RHPs. Last year, even with the bad start he was among the very best against righties.
  4. Against RH pitching, David Ortiz is as formidable as anyone. If Gonzo is better against righties, the difference is negligible.
  5. He was so skinny after the mono that he looked frail. If he fills out a bit and puts some muscle on that frame, he could be a very productive power hitter.
  6. Premeditation or malice aforethought is a very specific state of mind that must be present for first degree murder eligible for the death penalty. There must be a specific intent to kill someone. A few years ago some kid in my town got juiced up and got the bright idea of throwing a frozen turkey from his car at an oncoming car. The turkey slammed into the windshield at the combined speed of the two cars-- probably 80-100 mph and crushed the drivers head and killed her. Even a deliberate and idiotic act like this did not arise to malice aforethought. In my mind, this act of total recklessness comes closer to the necessary requirement for malice than a drunk driver. There are thousands upon thousands of drunk drivers that have been arrested who didn't kill anyone. Yes, the probability that a drunk driver will kill someone is much much higher than the probability of a sober driver, but it is not as likely as the risk of death from throwing a boulder (i.e. frozen turkey) into the windshield of an oncoming vehicle. Malice aforethought is a very hard element to prove.
  7. My point is that people expect this extension to get done right after opening day. I'm not expecting that.
  8. I know for a fact that Theo reads my stuff. He basically has employed the A700 philosophy in building this team.
  9. Does this sound like the parameteres of a deal are in place?
  10. It's been a great Holiday Season for Sox fans. Santa basically gave the Yankees a bag of crap (Mark Prior) that was placed under the tree next to a lump of coal (Luis Vizcaino). Ho Ho Ho!!!
  11. Mr. Henry please loot this Liverpool team and use the funds to bring more stars to Fenway.
  12. A horrible tragedy. He snuffed out three lives and ruined his own. As bad a problem as drunk driving is, I think accidents due to cell phones and texting might actually surpass in number the drunk driving accidents. My wife have been in three accidents where our vehicle was totalled. One was a drunk stoned driver and the other two involved cell phone usage. Two of those collisions were very violent and we are lucky to have escaped relatively uninjured. I hate drunk drivers, but we should all equally hate these *******s that text and talk on the phone while driving.
  13. Let me see if I have this straight. Doji threw a bomb into the middle of the room by suggesting that it would be a good move for the Sox to get Jose Reyes. Neither Palodios or Dipre think the Sox should acquire Reyes, but yet they have been engaged in a protracted viscious battle. This is where I get lost. Did I miss something? I think Spud is right. People need to get laid more.
  14. I like the creativity, but I still like Papelblown better.
  15. Slight correction made above.
  16. Wow! After reading this thread, it made me realize how silly ORS acts when he argues with me.:lol: ORS, don't go getting all bent out of shape. We're both pretty silly when we go after each other. I gave you a vote for smartest poster, so be assured that I am just joking.
  17. An auction is a lot of fun, but probably very cumbersome on the internet.
  18. There's no reason to carry dead weight. Sometimes management has to throw in the towel for a guy before he totally embarrasses himself.
  19. I would have liked to see him pass Clemens, but as a bullpen long guy and at his reduced effectiveness, it would take several more years. In the meantime, he will be embarrassing himself. I'd rather not witness that.
  20. You are 100% right. What Doji said was really messed up.
  21. Welcome to TalkSox. If you are Dutchy/Imperial/Yazsideburn or one of his many other screen names, you will eventually out yourself.
