  1. Scouting a kid in New Zealand who is unlikely to progress beyond A ball just seems to be a little cost ineffective.
  2. It's never good to lose a player like Michael Young.
  3. Last year they signed a midget, I.e. Nava and now they are signing New Zealand Softballers. What next, a Canadian Curler.
  4. At this point, I have no confidence that Wakefield can be a productive major leaguer.
  5. Spud, you have a knack for summing things up very succinctly.
  6. If the Six win, I don't mind losing the sleep, but it sucks when they lose.
  7. The "HGH was not cheating" is a ridiculously stupid argument. If the players thought it wasn't cheating, why did they all hide the fact that they used it? The answer is, because everyone considered it cheating.
  8. Even according to your version of the events, he wasn't forthright after the Mitchell Report, but you think he decided to come clean with Congress because it was the right thing to do. If he was the good Christian that he claims to be he should have been forthright after the Mitchell Report. He didn't merely fail to disclose after the Mitchell Report. He affirmatively lied saying that he only used twice. Again, it's not something a good Christian would do. I have nothing against bad Christians. I am not a churchgoer. However, I despise religious hypocrites such as the bible-thumping Pettitte. I choose to believe that he changed his tune when Congress subpoenaed him, because the penalties for lying to Congress are severe, not because he thought it was the right thing to do. Like you, I don't care what a player does in his personal life. However, when we are righting a guys player obit and he is called a class act, when in fact he was and is a scumbag, I will speak up. If we want to talk about him as a performer, I have no disagreement that he is a borderline HOF performer, but as a person he was not and is not a class act. If you only care about how he performed, why does it bother you that I post my opinion that he's a scumbag? My opinion of Pettitte might change if someday he donates his liver or a kidney to a total stranger.
  9. His motivation can be inferred from the circumstances. It is only my opinion, and only Pettitte knows the truth. If he was a forthright guy, he would have been completely forthright in his statement after the Mitchell Report, but he wasn't. He said that he only used it the two times mentioned in the Mitchell Report. He was forthright when Congress called, because his lawyer told him the consequences of lying. Then and only then did he remember additional times where he used HGH. Unfortunately for Clemens, his attorney could not convince him of the severity of the consequences.
  10. Also, the statement was a lie. That was his statement after the Mitchell Report. He admitted to using it twice, and that turned out to be a lie. When Congress subpoenaed him, he recalled additional times that he used. As for the "i only used it to recover from injury and get back on the field" argument, that is the main purpose of roids and HGH-- to allow the athlete to be able to train more with better recovery periods. If they tried to train as hard without the juice, they would injure themselves or suffer from fatigue. He was a cheater, and his rationalization is a very lame attempt at an excuse. He was taking it to get an edge and heal faster.
  11. I just think that you should judge people by what they did, not on a crafted public persona. When the lights and cameras were off and the pressure and the heat got turned up, he showed no character. The fact that he made no waves in the clubhouse and was a gentleman during interviews is irrelevant. That is just phony-ass PR stuff.
  12. The Orioles also added Justin Duchsherer too. I'm not a fan of Dumpster Diving, but at $700k he comes cheap enough. http://mobile.boston.com/art/52/sports/baseball/articles/2011/02/04/duchsherer_finalizes_700000_contract_with_os/
  13. The Orioles are a greatly improved team. Plus, they have a good manager for the first time in years. http://mobile.boston.com/art/52/sports/baseball/articles/2011/02/04/ap_source_guerrero_orioles_agree_to_deal/
  14. Character and integrity means doing the right thing when no one is looking. Andy P stuck needles in his ass to cheat. I won't crucify him for that cause many players were cheating at the time. However, he held himself out as a man of high religious and moral character while doing it. He continued to lie about it even after he got caught until the stakes were raised by the Congressional inquiry. That's not character or integrity.
  15. IMO Curt Schilling is a baseball god. He came to Boston saying he was coming to break an 86 year old curse, and he delivered and helped the team to two championships-- the only two thus far in my long lifetime. Very few players or coaches can make good on such a boast. Isn't that right, Rex Ryan.
  16. I was thrilled that Pettitte threw his best friend under the bus, and I was glad that he did it in such a backstabbing cowardly way. We all knew that Clemens was human garbage, but this episode exposed Pettitte as a lowlife liar backstabbing rat. I already knew that he was a huge religious hypocrite and phony.
  17. As I said earlier, the PED usage was the least of his bad qualities. That only made him a cheater. Plenty of players were cheating at the time, but Pettitte held himself out as a devoutly religious man who turned to Jesus for guidance. I could really care less about the PED use. Manny and others PED users did not hold themselves out as religious role models. When he first got caught by being named in the Mitchell Report, he lied and said that he only used it the two times as indicated in the report. Later, when Congress came knocking and the stakes were higher, he remembered using it additional times, but he claimed to have prayed to Jesus before injecting himself. Wow, what a good religious thing to do. Pettitte claimed to have turned to Jesus for guidance when he left the Yankees for Houston. He claimed he went to Houston to be close to his family. Yet, only a few short years later his family somehow must have relocated east, because he returned to the Yankees for big bucks. Those decisions had everything to do with money and nothing to do with Jesus or family. That makes him a phony and a hypocrite. I can't stomach religious hypocrisy. As for Clemens, sure he is a shitbag, but he and Andy were best friends which speaks volumes about Pettitte also. In the end Pettitte showed his true colors by ratting out his best friend like a coward. He did it by swearing out an affidavit. He also had his wife do an affidavit so that the Feds would agree to not make him testify before Congress and accuse Clemens face to face like a man. He is a backstabbing rat who sold out his best friend like a coward. It doesn't matter that we don't like Clemens or that Clemens is a shitbag. He was Pettitte's best friend. PEDs are the least of the problem with Pettitte. The man has zero character, but parades himself around with a totally phony public persona.
