  1. Other than Hoyer, have any other GMs been hired from the Red Sox?
  2. The Press barely acknowledged this accomplishment while Jeter's pursuit of 3,000 hit was covered like a blanket. 8 guys have hit 600 HRs. 28 guys got 3,000 hits. The bigger accomplishment is clear.
  3. They took care of business tonight.
  4. Lavarnway is no Aaron Bates.
  5. This lineup is pretty weak. Lavarnway in his second game is in the middle of the lineup. It's something that I would expect to see if I was a Pirates fan.
  6. They did it because they thought Crawford would be an exciting player, not because the fans demanded it. We loved Pedro and they let him walk. They don't make moves they don't believe in because the fans clamor for it. They believe in Crawford. The big money FA's that are good investments are retained by their teams and a lot have gone the trade and sign route. Many trade and signs have done very well. As I said that is not an exhaustive list. It was a top of the head list, because I didn't have the time. Matsui... Meh? He put up some consistently excellent numbers
  7. Since the trading deadline, Reddick is hitting .238 with a .289 OBP and an OPS of .670. Edit: The hot hand is no longer hot, but there are no alternatives.
  8. .and it is even more remarkable because he is a midget.
  9. I think Theo signs FA's in an attempt to keep up with the Yankees and not to respond to the demands of the fans. As much as I would like to think that he responded to my daily memos asking him to sign Crawford, I don't think that was the deciding factor. As far as FA's that have done pretty well in recent years, off the top of my head I would say Sabathia, Damon (twice - once for the Sox and once for the Yanks), Holliday, Beltran (3 very good years out of 5), Hideki Matsui. I am sure that there are others. I very much wanted Holliday in 2010, but he took a pass.
  10. Lavarnway 0-4. He's no Aaron Bates.
  11. The guy is a very good hitter.
  12. Trevor Cahill has been terrible since the All Star Break. His ERA is over 4 now.
  13. Need Crawford to get hot
  14. Orsillo and Remy have the best jobs in America. Did you hear Remy a few games ago tell the story about his nightmare where he got fired and he begged for his job back. In the dream/nightmare, he agreed to a 5 game contract for $1/game. He knows he has a racket. Seriously though, if you have the extra innings package and you get all of the games, you really appreciate Remy as an analyst after listening to other teams color analysts. I do like Blyleven in Minnesota too.
  15. The aces-- Beckett and Lester are going to have to be stoppers and get the team through the injuries to the offense.
  16. Dutchy banned again. The ignore feature is a really good thing.
  17. No one is arguing those points. The thread was about his record in signing big money free agents. It is not a referendum on whether he is a good GM overall. His record with FA signings is very unimpressive.
  18. So let's break down this lineup. Ellsbury in the leadoff spot- he's a legit MVP candidate. Lowry- Mr. Glass is batting 2nd. Batting 3rd is AGod, but he is in a power outage. Pedroia batting cleanup-He's a great player, but he is a midget. He must be the shortest cleanup hitter in 100 years. Batting 5th Reddick- a rookie. Batting 6th Crawford- He's in a terrible slump. Batting 7th Lavarnway-making his MLB debut. Batting 8th Varitek - a slumping fossil. Batting 9th Aviles- a utility player from KC. We should score 10 tonight.
