  1. The negativity problem on this board has more to do with the filter through which some posters posts are read. If people would address themselves to what the posters actually say rather than to who they think the poster is or what the poster is about, we'd find that there is a lot of agreement on the issues. I tried to point that out a few days ago. No one wants to break camp with this roster. The great majority of us think we need another pitcher. Some people are optimistic about this prospect. Others are not. Hey, people are different, but on the intellectual level our analysis all comes out in the same place.
  2. I don't think the 2 wild card thing starts in 2012.
  3. Initially, the results of this poll were almost exclusively in those choices where we would be getting another starting pitcher. More recently, there have been some votes that we will not get a pitcher. I think people are starting to lose hope. If we don't get a pitcher by the end of the week, I will repost the poll to see if the vote distribution has changed. My vote has changed.
  4. But he is tall.
  5. Things will calm down a lot if we acquire a starting pitcher.
  6. That's a first rate hotel. It's walking distance to Fenway. It's connected to the indoor mall in the Pru Center. It's also across the street from the Westin Copley-- frequently the visiting team stays in one of those hotels. Sure, it would be a kick to meet up with you. We can get a beer or soda at Remy's on the way to Fenway. We haven't booked our hotel yet. The rates are still high right now. I am hoping there is a special deal at some point. We always stay at one of the Copely Sq hotels. If the rates stay too high, my son and I might crash at my daughter's teen tiny apartment. It's hard to find a good rate when the Skankees are in town. I'll guarantee that if you tried to book on your own all of the accommodations and transportation that you'll be getting with the Red Sox Destinations that it would cost you much more than you are paying. Their trips are a very good value. The hotel you will be staying in is a 4 star hotel and conference center.
  7. My son and I are going to that series too. I have tickets for the Saturday and Sunday. Do you know what hotel you'll be staying in?
  8. It's SBF's style, his shtick. I look forward to seeing the new nicknames he comes up with. There are more serious problems on this board. Tonight we had some pretty good trolling going on that had nothing to do with sports and everything to do with insulting board members. Calling people "scumbags"? Really? What about the personal insults that are hurled around by certain posters? That gets under your skin less than "Benny Boy" or "Cherries Jubilee"? I find it disturbing that some veteran posters post lol's and thumbsups after a personal attack has been leveled. Nicknames for the manager, GM or owners are not personal insults to other posters. I find the personal insults to be more disturbing and at times it borders on bullying.
  9. What is so bad about the nicknames? They are not offensive. Is Cherries Jubilee a term of derision. It is just a play on his name. Berman makes up very similar types of nicknames. They are meant to be hunurous and they have nothing to do with the substance of the post.
  10. ... And he seldom if ever makes up nicknames for other posters.
  11. It's interesting how vicious the optimists can be in trying to silence the opinions of others. Such positive people!
  12. This possibly is a chronic condition? Great!
  13. I'm not having anything both ways. Carl Crawford is not the only problem with this team, and if he is healthy and plays well this coming season, he will not be a problem at all. Hopefully, heals well and returns to form. I blame Theo for lackey, who had arm issues before we signed him, Cameron who was an old man when he signed, Jenks who was a complete waste etc. Plus, I never really put the bad mouth on Theo for wasting money last year. I put the bad mouth on him for last year for not doing anything to patch up the pitching staff last year when it was obvious from August 1st that we were short 2-3 starters. My criticism has been well documented here. I never blamed Theo's foolish spending for last season. I am blaming it for next season (2012) since the owners have apparently imposed an age of austerity.
  14. Maybe we will now sign Oswalt.
  15. What's your point?
  16. Holliday was available the year before Crawford. A number of us wanted him badly. We didn't get him. The next year Crawfor was available, and yes I wanted him, because we had no LF and he was the best one available. I like Carl Crawford. When healthy and he has his head together, he is a force, but Holliday was the much better fit. I don't dislike CC now, but I hate that the Sox are in austerity mode all of a sudden. CC's contract sticks out like a sore thumb in this environment, especially if he can't play to justify it. If he is going to be a damaged Carl Crawford and not the Tampa Bay CC, I'd rather get the insurance and look for a new OF.
  17. I did want Crawford, but I wanted Matt Holliday the year before even more. The missed opportunity was signing Lackey and Cameron when Holliday was available. They should have signed Holliday and the following year made a strong run at Lee. That would have been my preference.
  18. I had no idea that the Crawford contract would cause the Sox to go into an austerity spending program where they can't even afford $8 million for 1 year for a starting pitcher. I still like Crawford, but his contract and Ortiz's arbitration are strangling us. I love Ortiz. It's not about him or Crawford.
  19. If the Rangers sign Darvish, do the Sox sign Oswalt?
  20. Hopefully, we have insurance on this awful contract. If we do, he can cut off his hand for all I care.
