  1. I haven't watched tennis once all the larger than life personalities retired. In recent years, only the Williams sisters have brought any sort of personality to the sport.
  2. I mentioned it in the Off Season thread that the over/under for innings for Dice K in 2012 should be 50. Where would you bet your money?
  3. He wouldn't be the first to have multiple screen names on TalkSox at the same time.
  4. ... and if they miss out on him for $1 or $2 million, that would be ridiculously stupid.
  5. We jumped on him and pounded him before he even could make a good troll attempt.
  6. I still want a pitcher whether we are over or under the cap, but I can't see the big motivation to salary dump your starting SS if you are still going to be over the cap.
  7. I think that we'd have to eat at least 5 of the $6 million we owe him.
  8. I read something today that the Sox still might look to trim more payroll. Maybe there is another salary dump coming.
  9. He might have screwed himself, because the arbitrator would have to come in at $15 million for Ortiz figure of $16.5 to be closer, but that being said, the arbitration process does produce some anomalous results. I still wouldn't be shocked if he won.
  10. We are all hoping this is the case, but there is no indication that anything like this will happen. The Marlins are trying to build at this point, not dismantle. I realize that you were just using the Marlins as an example, but we can rule them out.
  11. Yes, and if he wasn't producing, we could have used Manny after he serves his suspension or someone else.
  12. If they didn't offer him arbitration, they could have had the $12.5 to redeploy for other needs or he would have fallen into their lap at the end for $9-10 million-- more in line with his market value. BTW -- don't be surprised if he wins the arbitration.
  13. Someone else had to be doing the heavy lifting. That's usually the way it is with head coaches nevermind an old infirm person dying from lung cancer.
  14. That's right Fred. Anyone can probably go back on this thread and check, but yes I thought he would have to be a fool not to accept the arbitration, and I never thought Ortiz was a fool. As long as he or his agent could do fairly simple math, it was a no-brainer that he would accept the arbitration. I really can't imagine what the FO was thinking. They make mistakes like everyone else. This was a whopper. There was no hidden strategy that has not been made public or that we are just too unsophisticated to understand. They simply blew it.
