  1. At this point, I don't know what conclusion can be drawn.
  2. When my criticism starts to become an optimisic spin on the facts, I get truly worried.
  3. $5 million is not a reasonable offer for Oswalt. Looking at the steaming pile of depth arms that have been accumulated, I am quite confident that no #5 is being squeezed out of that group. Padilla might give us 4 good starts before he needs to be re-admitted to the asylum, but that is it.
  4. John Maine in his best days was not very good. The last that I saw of him he was throwing around 84 MPH and insisting that he felt healthy for the Mets. The guy fits in with the rest of the "cesspool of negative (as coined by VA) that is our pitching depth.
  5. It doesn't matter who is at fault. They are all part of the FO. If you want to blame the FO generically, it makes no difference to me. The address for accountability is Yawkey Way. However, until Ben or Larry or JH says otherwise, I think it is fair to attribute normal GM functions to Benny Boy. Several times we have read that they are not going to limit themselves to the LT cap, so I guess if they are not giving Ben $ they are all a bunch of liars. Frankly, I'd prefer that Ben was just going through some growing pains in his new job or even that he wasn't very good at it rather than think he and the rest of the FO are liars.
  6. Could this be a precursor to moving Wandy or Bret Myers?
  7. ... and he is sloppy on the details. How did it elude him that Sergio Santos was on the block during the GM Meetings and he got traded into our division? Maybe he wouldn't have obtained him, but he should have known about it. We don't get compensation for Wheeler, because he signed a minor league deal with the Guardians. We are giving minor league deals to recycled garbage, but we couldn't offer such a deal to Wheeler. We have been told to be patient, because Benny Boy works at a slow and deliberate pace. In my many years of business, I have observed all sorts of working styles. Usually the slow and deliberate people are very thorough, but I am not getting that impression of Benny. I could be wrong, but these troubling instances are starting to pile up.
  8. The deal for Oswalt or Jackson should have been all but signed sealed and delivered before he dumped his SS. They have done a lot of things ass-backward this offseason. To start with, they didn't lock down the compensation for Theo before they gave him permission to negotiate. Now, with no leverage we will get next to nothing. Second, the offer arbitration to Ortiz. That one speaks for itself, and i am a huge Ortiz fan. Third, they dump our starting SS who hit close to .300 last year to shed salary to make room for a starting pitcher, but it has become apparent that no deal was close to being in place for a pitcher at the time they dumped Scutaro.
  9. No one wanted Theriot, except maybe Doji. My apologies to Doji if I am misrepresenting his view.
  10. Red Sox Off Season thus far: Lost: Papelbon Scutaro Lowrie Reddick Lackey (injury) Added Bailey Sweeney Shoppach Punto Ross Also Added: Various bags of trash called pitching depth. You be the judge.
  11. He is no longer a consideration.
  12. But they are very philanthropic and they have a strong sense of noblese oblige. They are still **********s, but I felt compelled to note those other things. LOL!
  13. Unfortunately, I don't remember the Dodgers, but I heard many stories about them and what they meant to the community from family members. Everyone who I have met who remembered the Brooklyn Dodgers agree that Brooklyn was never the same. The heart was torn from the community when they left town.
  14. He's a nice minor league option. If that's all it took to get him, it would have been a "value acquisition." I wouldn't pay $3 million for the guy, but a minor league contract... yes.
  15. Then how is it that you are right so often?
  16. Is there an "s" in Sean? :dunno:
  17. Yes, and he will cost as almost as much $ as the other 2 plus we can give up talent to get him. And he's the worst performer of the three. What a bargain! But we may have to settle for him. I would not consider him to be a "value acquisition", but what do I know. I don't run a baseball club. They probably have a top secret strategy that I couldn't begin to comprehend.
  18. This really describes our pitching depth moves.
