  1. As usual, I would like to participate.
  2. As a baseball purist, who believes that the outcome of a marathon 162 game schedule should decide which are the best teams, further expansion of the playoffs is something that I do not like. I still don't like the 5 game Division Series. Additionally, by adding a second wildcard in each league, there will be several more teams that will be in payoff contention meaning that fewer teams will be sellers at the trading deadline. It will be very difficult to fill in pieces or build your team during the season.
  3. There is no scientific study coming to any conclusion. From the article:
  4. I thought the rankings were based on a survey. Where's the scientific backup on this?
  5. Isn't it just a poll?
  6. I'll take my chances in making contact with a 90 MPH fastball as opposed to returning a 115 mph serve with all kinds of spin and english. First you have to chase the damn thing. Unlike a baseball which has to be thrown over a 17 inch plate, you have to run after the serve and get your feet in position to swing at the ball. Then you have to hit over the net and within lines. I don't have to direct the baseball. I don't think I could ever return a Samparas serve. That takes a tremendous amount of refined skill. Who knows which is harder.
  7. For sure someone had to put it in print. The story goes that Mantle was cussing on the way back to the dugout, and one of the printable things he called him was a Monster.
  8. Actually Whitey Ford pinned Rose with Charlie Hustle
  9. http://articles.latimes.com/2005/mar/18/local/me-radatz18
  10. I though Mantle pinned that nickname on Radatz. Mantle also pinned Pete Rose with Charlie Hustle. BTW It was meant in a derogatory way.
  11. Teddy Ballgame started with this, but he was a bit of a blowhard. He was the greatest hitter that ever lived, but who is to say what is the hardest thing to do in sports.
  12. No one seemed to have a problem hitting Lackey. Players were claiming over each other to take dome swings at him.
  13. Yes, my bad. Distracted reading on my part. Yes, Lavs could be a beast with the bat.
  14. VMart could be tolerated behind the dish, because he was a beast with the lumber in his hands. Salty is no offensive beast.
  15. He'll keep himself involved with the organization. I don't see him traveling around this season to minor league facilities to work with catchers. It's not worth his time.
  16. He can't catch --Wakefield or anyone else. He blocks pitches in the dirt poorly. His throwing release and footwork are slow. His throwing accuracy is erratic. His game calling ability will become more obvious as this will become his staff in 2012, not Tek's. I am undecided about this aspect of his game. His offensive production is okay, except he k's too much. Overall, he is an adequate placeholder for 2012.
  17. I think Aceves really wants the job and he will outpitch the field. I hate to lose him from the bullpen. Felix will take his spot in the pen as a swingman. They will start off the season with Padilla, Silva and Cook et al in the minors as insurance.
  18. I apologize for the extra thread.
  19. In answering this poll, please select the pitcher who you think will win th job, not who you want to win the job.
