When the Sox did little to address their obvious off season holes, many people believed that the team still had enough talent to be competitive for a playoff spot, but acknowledged that good health would be a necessity to make a playoff run. Well, we're barely out of the starting blocks, and we've lost our closer for most of the season leaving the bullpen in disarray and inadequately stocked with effective arms. We've also lost our All Star Centerfielder for 2 months and our big money left fielder is still out with an injury. We are experiencing the one thing that many people didn't think that the team could withstand. I am sure some of those people will reconsider their prior opinions in this regard, but I don't think prospects are very bright at this point. The FO hasn't made a move to bolster the pitching since Bailey went down. I don't think they will make a move to strengthen a very thin OF corps. What fun! We'll get to watch some combination of Ross, Sweeney, DMac and Lin for weeks until Crawford returns. It doesn't exactly conjure up memories of an OF roster of Lynn, Rice, Yaz, Evans and Carbo.
