  1. You don't have to replace everyone. That would not be practical, but that doesn't mean that you don't do anything.
  2. That seems to be correct. I still can't see them letting him walk. I am assuming they are just letting more time click off the clock. Otherwise, his signing makes no sense at all.
  3. So basically, they were prepared to give Bard and Doubront a whole 3 starts in April before pulling the plug? That doesn't sound like much of a plan B if plan B only covers April. What happens if they blow up in May, or the bullpen deteriorates further in May. Without Cook, what is plan B, Ohlendorf, Duckworth? It was an ill-conceived plan if they only were protecting against April occurrences. Pointless, yes.
  4. They are on a 5 game losing streak right now.
  5. They are supposed to have a plan B and be able to adapt on the fly. Sitting tight never works. Look at past seasons where we waited for injured stars to return to good health and rescue the team. It doesn't happen. Those teams went down in flames.
  6. No one is saying the season is hinging on Cook. Please stop with the antagonistic posts. What I am saying is that he turned out exactly as they had hoped-- healthy and very effective at AAAA. If they don't promote him, what was the purpose of signing him. Obviously, our pitching is not very good right now. If he doesn't get recalled, basically all of those depth signings were pointless.
  7. I guess they don't think our pitching needs any help. What was the point of signing him? He couldn't have performed any better at AAA and he is apparently healthy. Isn't that what they were hoping for when they signed him to the minor league deal? He's the only s*** that stuck to the wall and they can't use him? I am really baffled. Hopefully, there is a behind the scenes agreement in place.
  8. I don't see how they can be within striking distance of the division lead at the AS Break unless we make some moves or guys return from injury sooner than expected.
  9. I live in NY and work in NYC. I would sound like a complete bufoon trying to tell Yankee fans that our current team can compete with the Yankees. They are having plenty of laughs at our expense, and I have to keep my mouth shut and head down, because I got nothing to counter with. It's very f***ing frustrating.
  10. The Orioles are looking at Abreu. We could see him on the weekend. If he's on the O's hopefully he is shot. But our bullpen could be a fountain of youth for him.
  11. Pedroia can hit anywhere in the lineup. He just hasn't heated up yet. He nver hits early in the season which will present a huge challenge to the team, because we will need AGon and Ortiz to rake every night to win.
  12. Tonight, the overrated, overpaid Papelbon got his 9th save in 9 save opportunities. Good for him.
  13. There's your answer to the DMac- Abreu dilemna. The DMac lovers can keep DMac to mash lefties. Lars should be optioned back to AAA. He has absolutely no role on this team, and you mark my words that he is a disaster waiting to happen in LF.
  14. If Middlebrooks was in the PawSox lineup tonight, he should have been playing at Fenway instead of Punto. I don't know what is going on with Lars. He has no role on this team. I was hoping he would crash a HR there so he would have some trade value.
  15. His .766 OPS against RHP still kick DMac's .506 in 2011. Byrd was at .740 and Ross came in at .740. No matter what year you look at Abreu kicks Dmac's ass. Does Abreu have anything left? He's worth a week trial run. He's pocket change.
  16. You are ignoring who these guys are. You are taking a small sample size of less than a couple of dozen games and ignoring what kind of players they are. This is what I saw when was in Fenway to watch the Yankees. The Yankees were a team stocked full of studs all over the diamond and in the bullpen and I looked to our side and I saw a makeshift bunch of rag taggers. We have three star players surrounded by posers. That's reality, and it is the same reality when we play Texas and Detroit. We don't compare. I am rooting my ass off hoping this team can stay in the fray until our guys come back from injury, but when we turn our backs on guys that are really good hitters who are free like Abreu in favor of garbage like DMac, I have to say WTF.
  17. Career OPS vs RHP: Ross .730, Byrd .742, Abreu .926. That's why.
  18. I think some people are really going into homerism. People need to take a step back and look what we are rolling out as a team: Mike Aviles- KC reject DMac - AAAA player Sweeney -- throwin on trade for Reddick-- He'll hit under 10 HRs Punto -- a pudgie old utility IFer who can't reach first base from third base Marlon Byrd-- in his best days he was okay, but on the other side of the hill Salty-- An adequate catcher Ross-- A nice role player, but not a full time OFer Amongst all this, we have three bona fide stars-- Pedroia, Ortiz and AGon. If two out of 3 of them don't hit every game, we will have trouble. Add to this the fact that we have an atrocious pen, and this team needs help in many forms and shapes. This attitude of waiting until guys gets healthy will keep us in last place.
  19. If it's a free bandaid, why not, especially when a bandaid is all that's needed?
  20. We are getting beat by a s*** team that got a really good pitching performance tonight. Ortiz can't carry the rest of them on his back every night.
  21. DMac is a piece of trash. A couple of games ago people were wondering if he had incriminating pictures of John Henry. By all means let's stick with a LF platoon of DMac and Lars over Abreu.
  22. When is Kalish coming back? The idea is to fill in the gap until Ellsbury and Crawford come back. Kalish will not be back before Ellsbury or Crawford.
  23. Abreu is an .877 lifetime OPS. DMac's advantage against lefties is inconsequential when he has him by 160 OPS points.
