  1. Three years from today I think it will be quite clear that Lackey's money would have been better spent on Papelbon, but we will not know for 3 more years.
  2. I think the kid has done a great job of maximizing his performance by compensating for his lack of size and physical skill with very hard work. What is up with your sig? Have you joined a cult?
  3. Nava is out of options. He would have to be DFA'd. I don't think we could get anything for Sweeney. Heck, we couldn't get anything for Youk and we are paying his salary. Sweeney hits a HR every 150 ABs on average in a 7 year career. He has 14 HRs for his career and none this season. He doesn't run very well either. I'm not seeing a market for him. I would still option Lillibridge as he is completely useless.
  4. Visit the old threads. The arguments raged for days and weeks.
  5. More crazy numbers: Batting Avg against Red Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.252 -12th in the league) OBP Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.318 -- 12th in the league) OPS Sox pitchers in 7th to 9th innings (.704-- 12th in the league) Papelbon's #'s: BA .227 OBP .277 OPS .645 ERA as you know is not a very reliable metric.
  6. Buzz off! Visit the old threads and read the arguments from the off season. My opinions were clearly stated there. I am not interested in rehashing the issue.
  7. The only thing left to the Paps argument is to wait to see how he does for the next 4 years, and how our FO rebuilds our late inning bullpen. I wish Papelbon well. He was a great Red Sox player. Some Sox fans wish him ill. That I don't understand except when we are playing the Phillies.
  8. And we reached that agreement in March. All I am saying here is that our late inning bullpen has been bad to this point in 2012. It has nothing to do with papelbon's value or retaining him. Bailey was supposed to fill the job but he is among the walking wounded.
  9. I agree. Maybe a healthy Bailey could have made up the difference, but the fact is that the hole at the closer position has gone unfilled.
  10. You lecture me so often about small sample sizes. I remember 6 years of feeling pretty good about having Paps on the mound in the 9th inning. Yes, i was very nervous at times, but I can't think of a single time that I wished the ball was in the hands of another Red Sox pitcher. I never had that "no lead is safe" feeling that I have regularly this season. You remember multiple losses in September? I remember Papelbon blowing 2 games. He was hardly the problem in September as our starters made our relievers pretty irrelevant in September. They had a league worst 7.08 ERA in September-- a full run worse than the next worst team.
  11. Well, your response was misplaced, because i wasn't arguing about retaining papelbon. I did want to retain him, but they didn't. That argument is over and done. I was just noting that his leaving has had a negative effect on the teams record. You have made only a few posts. Don't start off being a punk.
  12. Who cares. No one is discussing his contract.
  13. I almost swallowed my tongue on that swing. Thank goodness.
  14. Same horseshit as the 1st half.
  15. Throw strikes damn it!
  16. Late inning pen putting guys on base again.
  17. Ciriaco can field. Great play!!!
  18. Nava is a switch hitter so he can take some righty ABs. I'd move Sweeney and bring up Pods. Edit: And get rid of Lillibitch.
  19. Good Fenway swing. If I played him against righties, it would be at Fenway.
  20. Agreed. He's seems to be optimal in a modified sort of platoon situation where he gets about 350-400 ABs.
