  1. Bard walked a guy and hit a guy tonight including 2 wild pitches.
  2. Wow!! It was obvious his baseball career was over. I hope this kid is out of the woods.
  3. What would we get for him? Maybe a subscription to MLBTV? The guy has been on waivers several times over the last 2 years and no one took him for free. I don't see getting anything more than a questionable A ball prospect who can double as a peanut vendor.
  4. What size inbox would befit a king?
  5. As for Papelbon, purely from a perfomance perspective, we would have 4 or 5 more wins if he had been at the closer this season. Aceve has lost 6 games plus blown 4 saves. Except maybe in his worst season, Papelbon didn't lose and blow that many games in an entire season. Papelbon walking may have been the right financial decision, but if he was our closer this season we would still be right in the thick for the division lead. We'd probably be back 5 games at the most. Yes, the rest of the bullpen has done fine, but not the closer.
  6. Good post, E1. My fear going forward is that if they don't come up eith a good strategy to fix this team and then be disciplined in the execution of that strategy, that the Red Sox will become what the Orioles were for more than a decade-- an overpaid dysfunctional group of under perfoming players. I see that you are still clinging to some hope that this mess is not largely Theo's fault. That's okay, because it was not entirely his fault, but whether some of his poor decisions resulted from him caving to pressures, that doesn't make him less accountable. Keep in mind that his last big money blunder was something that he wanted so badly and believed so strongly that he went against the expressed doubts of John Henry. JH said he did not agree with the Carl Crawford signing. Theo didn't cave to the pressure. He may have been sloppy in maintaining discipline, but it wasn't for lack of a backbone.
  7. It's not paranoia if people are actually talking aboout you.
  8. His numbers are in decline for the second year in a row. People forget that he was thought to have had an off year in 2011 and people were expecting a bounce back year in 2012. He has gotten worse. It is not just a couple of bad months. The Red Sox record in Lester starts in 2011 was 16-15, and he had Bard and Papelbon to hand the ball late in the game. 2011 was not a good year. This year is worse. I would move this guy now before he becomes Time Lincecum.
  9. Garza is just another #2/3 guy OMO. We have enough of those. We need an ace. If we are going to go for a #2/3 guy, they should go for Dempster. He'll be much cheaper than Garza.
  10. This is the second year in a row that his numbers have declined, so I don't think we can just chalk this up to a bad season. As for the comparison to Lee, we have to consider whetehr he could turn into a Lincecum. Also, Lee is not a pwer pitcher like Lester. This team needs an overhaul. I think Lester would bring back much more than Beckett on the trade market. I think a 28 year old Lester could most definitely land Upton.
  11. In 2008 the Red Sox refused to let Schilling get surgery. They had him do physical therapy that didn't work. He wanted to get the surgery, rehab and try to get back by the end of the season. The vetoed his decision.
  12. I think Beckett has a better chance than Lester to regain his form and pitch well in the second half. The big question with regard to Beckett IMO is his commitment. He definitely gives off a vibe that he doesn't give a s***. I think Lester is desperate to improve his performance, but he is having a lot of trouble adjusting to the decreasing velocity and drop in strike outs. Beckett has already adapted to the change in his stuff and succeeded.
  13. I'd do the Upton trade now and try to piece together a deal for a 2 month pitcher rental for the remainder of 2012, but then go full throttle for Hamels in the off season.
  14. I don't think Hamels signs an extension at the TD. Has any big time pitcher agreed to a sign and trade in his walk year? I am all for acquiring him as a FA in the offseason and doing the Upton trade too.
  15. In the non-Pedroia lineup, I would have Middlebrooks in the 5th or 6th slot depending on the pitcher. These look much better than the lineups that we have been fielding lately. They should give us a fighting chance against the 3-0 and 4-0 first inning holes that our pitchers seem to dig every game.
  16. ^ This should be in fearless predictions.
