Greinke is not under control. He's a 2 month rental. As far as I can see, the Angels gave up 1 top 100 prospect Segura at #46.
The reason I laugh at the Red Sox pattern of excuses is that it is just so ridiculous. I don't dispute what these acquisitions cost. What I laugh at is the whole disingenuous public relations BS. They make all these statements for weeks about looking to add pitching and being aggressive, but as you get closer to the deadline, they whine about the cost being too high. I don't for a minute believe that they didn't know 2-3 weeks ago our FO didn't know what these guys would cost with very close approximation. If they didn't, then they are a bigger bunch of dopes than even I had imagined. The feigned surprise at the cost is amusing to me. Who the hell are they kidding? The aggressively pursue talk etc. is just to keep the fans interested for a few more weeks, and then they whine that they tried their best, but the cost was just too high. Now, don't get me wrong again as you so often do. I am not saying that the cost is or isn't too high. I am just saying that they pretty much knew the cost for all these guys 2-3 weeks ago. The posturing about being buyers is just that--posturing.
