  1. It was a pretty wild year.
  2. My recollection is that the Yankees came to town a couple of days later, and the fans were still protesting the trade. I think that I heard about it on the Yankee radio broadcast.
  3. I remember that fans protested the trading of Hawk Harrelson in 1969.
  4. They went back into the clubhouse where they shared some chicken and beer.
  5. I think when you have hit into 3 DPs in the first 5 innings, I try to stay out of another one with the slowest runner at bat. The criticism of Bobby V isn't this one instance. It's that he sits on his hands game after game. He really doesn't need team signs. He's very much like Terry with the lack of moves or plays.
  6. I don't think the percentages were stacked one way or the other. The speed could have caused some havoc. They may not have let Crawford take the base uncontested. They might have decoyed throwing through but had Jeter run in for the throw and try to get Ells at the plate. The DP percentage with Gonzo were probably higher than with Ross. The HR percentage was probably in Gonzo's favor because of the short RF porch. I don't think the percentages were greatly stacked one way or the other. If Salty or Punto was up behind Gonzo, you keep the runners anchored, but in this situation I run them.
  7. Well, as it turns out, running him couldn't have worked out any worse. I would have run him.
  8. What's behind Red Sox negativity is the Sox pathetic play this year-- nothing else. There have been almost no bright spots and almost no hot streaks where they have strung together wins.
  9. Really? What was our best offer -- the fat bullpen cop, because the White Sox basically gave up a bag of balls?
  10. At the point when it was 1st and 3rd with one out it was a slam dunk that they should have sent the runner at 1st. They had 2 of the fastest guys in the baseball on the bases. If Crawford goes, there is no way they throw throught to 2nd base with Ellsbury on 3rd base or Ells will score. It should have been 2nd and 3rd after the first pitch to AGon. The Yankees would have had to play the IF in and who knows what happens from there. We do know that Agon could not ground into a DP. I think Bobby V's problem is that he is always thinking a couple of batters, if not innings, ahead, so he does a bad job of managing in the moment.
  11. Do these jokers at least watch these guys play or are they just crunching meaningless low level minor stats and combining that with professional scouting reports. If that is what they are doing, they are nothing more than a useless secondary source with a bias.
  12. Me too. That's because we are fans. We can always find some hope to keep us watching the games. It was against every fiber of my fandom to vote to sell. I want them to make a run at the championship every year. I just don't see the 2012 team as having what it takes to play consistently good ball to make a sustained run. I'll be shocked and pleasantly surprised if f they run off 10 wins in the next 12 games.
  13. I really like this kid Ciraico. Give him the SS job.
  14. Freakin 4 DP s killed us.
  15. It looks like Bard could be back as the set up man fairly soon.
  16. With his success pitching out of the stretch, it might be worth it to give Miller some starts down the stretch to see if he can be consistent in that role.
  17. As he gets older he is starting to look like Mel Brooks.
  18. Another DP. When we need Salty to strikeout, he makes 2 outs.
  19. Jones looks like an old softball player.
  20. These DPs are going to come back to bite us. Ciriaco can pick it at SS
  21. If 2 of the 3 had performed well, the Sox still would have failed, just later instead of in the middle of July. There was not enough pitching. Bard was a complete disaster. Doubront has been a good not great #5. I do blame benny for the pitching. There just wasn't enough and it was pretty obvious even in Spring Training. The pitching was going to fail unless all 3 guys had lights out years with no injuries. If 2 had performed, the pitching would have eventually fallen apart. In one way, I am glad that it fell apart so early and so badly. Falling out of serious contention before July is finished when there are 5 playoff spots is startlingly bad. It should make him reluctant to ever start another season with such weak thin starting pitching.
