Doji, this is a 4th place team, possibly a last place team with Drew. I have questioned the imprudent use of payroll all offseason long. Think what you want, but don't tell me what I have been thinking and saying. Try actually staying up with what I say rather than what you think I think. Facts are better.

Get it all out, Doji. Do you feel better? My wanting to give Iggy a shot has nothing to do with his recent progress at the plate. That's in your head. After last season, it was obvious to me that this team was not going to be strongly competitive in 2013. I have been opposed to spending $160 - 170 million on a team that will probably get steamrolled and have been beating the drum to give the kids a chance to see what they have-- Iggy and Lavs. Unfortunately Lavs bombed out in camp, but I still would have raded Salty before the start of camp and let Lavs sink or swim this year. He's 25. It's now or never. The same goes for Iggy. While younger than Lavs, he has Bogaerts and Marrero coming up quickly behind him.

I don't think we needed a stopgap guy for a team that will have a hard time being competitive.

I am glad that he is sitting, not complaining. I don't think we should have gotten him. I see no sense in this 1 year deal for a team going nowhere. I'd rather see what we have with Iggy.

He's a Drew. They are brittle all over. I hope Drew stays dizzy for a while and gives Iggy a good shot at proving himself. I never understood the Drew signing. IMO, it was a waste of $9 million.

If he weren't in a contract year, I would be a bit surprised if Ells missed a couple of months with this bad heel. Even so, I will not be surprised if he misses a couple of weeks. I wonder when the hell "egg shell skull" Drew makes it back to the lineup. I hope Iggy hits the s*** out of the ball and makes Drew irrelelvant. One Drew was enough for this Red Sox fan. At least JD was a top performer when he played. Ortiz can sit back and work on being health for his 2014 contract year. No rush. Here's a tip for Sox fans. Make sure that you have a big jar of lube ready for Youkilis's and Overbay's ABs against us next week. It will cut down on the bleeding and soreness.

I think Bard has a hard time being objective about his performance. After his last start last season before he was sent down to the minors, he thought he just needed to make some adjustments before his next start. He had completely imploded as a starter, but he thought he just needed some tinkering.

Bard had a rough outing again today: It looks like the winter off didn't help him reset anything. He's just as lost now as was in September.

They are in trouble now. I'll say that before the season starts. It's just not a well-constructed team. The strength is its bullpen if it doesn't get overused. The first series in the context of their season is meaningless, but if they lose to a decimated Yankee squad, the fandom will tend to say, "here we go again." If we beat the Yankees, there will be excitement and false hope. I could use some excitement and false hope after the several slow starts we have had in recent years.

No one said anything close to this.^ I was talking about fan interest, not the team's 2013 chances. Nothing is better at generating interest in the Red Sox than beatng the Yankees, and it is equally demoralizing to lose to them. Fans are already demoralized after last season and the prior September collapse. Only winning will get the fans interest back. A fast start, especially against the Yankees, would get the fans pumped. BTW, whether they start fast or slow, this team's chances at the playoffs are not good. If they start fast, they might get back some fan interest until they eventually fall out of the race.

They need to come out of the gate fast this season. If they stumble at the start like they have done for the last few seasons, they will lose an opportunity to spark some interest in this otherwise non-compelling, boring group of mid-level players and below. We are getting the Yankees at a very low and weakened point-- no Tex, ARod, Grandy or Jeter. Taking 2 out of 3 or sweeping would go a long way toward generating some excitement. If they let the likes of Youkilis and Overbay beat us, they fans will barely acknowledge that the season has started.

Just because Loshe is a worse contract than Dempster doesn't convince me that Dempster was a good or helpful acquisition.

Very true. Sausage making is not an interesting read. All of us here surely prefer baseball to hot dogs. Since baseball interests us so much, we analyze it more than we analyze the hot dog, so we probably are a better judge of baseball than the hot dog business.

We don't need to know how to run a baseball team. We compare the finished product whether it be a baseball team or a hot dog and we know which organizations make the better product. You don't need to understand or see the sausage making process to know if the product is good or bad. Good organizations make winning baseball teams and good sausage companies make tasty sausage. That's all we need to know. I don't like hot dogs with chicken or too much filler. I know that. I also know that the Red Sox starting pitching has no depth.

That's because you probably don't have a discriminating palate. Most people who have eaten enough hot dogs can tell if the hot dog is beef vs. chicken, if it has too much filler etc. Most people know enough to know why they don't like the hot dog. They don't need to know the finances of the business or their labor issues to know what is f***ed up about the hot dog.

The Yankees will sign him by the opening series and he will be playing against us. He will be an upgrade for the Yankees.
