  1. Interesting. Good information, SFF.
  2. ABs got split by Nava, Sweeney, and Pods because a) all 3 suck and they had their own injury issues. They combined for 670 ABs -- a competent talented 4th OFer could easily have taken 300 - 400 ABs.
  3. The whole WBC is ridiculous. How many guys on the Italian team were born in Italy or have played for the Italian league? I asked my brother what Piazza's connection with Italy was beyond his heritage. He was born and raised in the USA in PA I think. My brother's answer was that he ate a slice of pizza.
  4. I can't remember the last time that our 4th OFer would not get at least 300 - 400 ABs. Gomes is a platoon type player, plus Victorino is much better from the right side of the plate than the left side.
  5. As our 4th OFer, he'll get 300- 400 ABs. Every year we have plenty of playing time for our 4th OFer. 300-400 ABs at the MLB level is a nice way to break in without too much pressure on his shoulders.
  6. I would be handing him the 4th outfielder/platoon spot, not a full time starting position. If he shits himself, there are 3 other outfielder ahead of him. That is completely consistent with my philosophy regarding prospects. You can never remember my positions or arguments correctly, so you should probably stop trying, and instead, you should concentrate your efforts on your own ideas and thoughts which could use some work.
  7. If that is the rule and it is only 9 games, wait it out to save the year, but tell him not to unpack at Pawtucket. Please stop with smug ******** if you know how to do that.
  8. Bradley is far better already than either Sweeney or Nava. Screw the clock. He deserves to come North with the team.
  9. I agree. I think he is a premier talent. He has all the tools except a strong arm. He is far better than Bourn. Ells has had a few bad freak injuries that are not chronic conditions, so he is no bigger a health risk than anyone else. If he has a big season, it will confirm his status as a star player. A core of Ells, Pedroia, Middlebrooks and Bradley should produce a dynamic offense for several seasons.
  10. And I thought you had me on ignore. What can I say, I am a must read. I realize that you didn't mention me by name in your post, but you did make a broad generalization about your perception of knee jerk reactions that I wanted to refute on my behalf since you mentioned no names. I have no idea who you were referring to with your perception. I don't think anyone said that De La Rosa was great and then flip flopped to say he stinks. As for your comment about me being out of touch for "thinking" that "someone who pitched 13 IP was going to earn a rotation spot," I didn't say that I thought he would earn a rotation spot. I said that based on the high opinion others had held of De La Rosa that i had hoped he would dominate and impress and earn a spot. Hope is not an expectation. I realized that it was highly unlikely. What was daft was your reading ability.
  11. I never thoght he was the greatest evuh, and I don't think he is a bum now. He is exactly what I thought he would be-- a kid struggling to make the team and prove himself. I was hoping he would come to camp and emerge as a big time stud and earn a rotation spot, but it doesn't look that way right now. One more outing like the last two and they will probably send him out on his minor league assignment.
  12. There is a difference between how hard guys go when they are trying to impress as opposed to when they know they have made the team.
  13. Both teams have been doing it for ages.
  14. The Dodgers have been very effective throughout the years of overhyping their prospects.
  15. Yep, salary dump was a great move, but whether it can even be called a trade depends on what Rubby and Wester can do.
  16. Rubby with 2 stinkers in a row.
  17. Maybe their doctors are bigger imbeciles than ours.
  18. I didn't gloat down the stretch in 2011 even though I warned that we were circling the drain on or around September 1st. You were here then, so you know that too. I don't know why you are jumping in to pick fight with me with really nothing to back up what you are saying? Do we need to go doen this road? As for the offseason 2011, it was brutal, but you were part of it. My recollection is that the biggest argument that offseason was over whether DC was a big market-- not even a Red Sox topic.
  19. The King of TalkSox was not dancing on heads about being right. It was because I had the most posts, nothing more than that. You were here throughout the season, so you know that I didn't gloat last year. Puhlease. Do you want to see gloating, because I could go that way this year if you like. I don't like to gloat about losing, because losing stings too much.
  20. When have you predicted the precise number of wins. If that is your measure of being right, no one is ever right. Several people predicted that the team could blow up if they had any injuries, etc. Everything would have had to go right with no injuries for the 2012 team to be competitive. This is politician like spin from you. On the one hand, you accuse people of always predicting gloom and doom because they enjoy it, but on the other hand, when gloom and doom happens, you say that it wasn't predicted, because the number of losses was not predicted. This is utter nonsense. It is talking out of both sides of your mouth. If we didn't predict failure last year, then we must have predicted success, so we can't be perpetual gloom and doomers. No wonder you could only last a year in Brooklyn with this kind of ******** argument. GFO with this nonsense.
  21. Bicycle horns.
  22. Best post of the off season.
  23. SFF, I and a bunch of others could have danced on everyone's head last year, but we didn't. There was no reason to. We sucked and the season was miserable. You usually stick to the facts and your own opinions, but this is made up BS.
  24. It is 5 years of failure. Acknowledging failure doesn't equate with expecting to win every year. It just doesn't. I expect the 2013 team to finish 4thor last as do many experrs and fans. If you want to consider that a success, go right ahead, but neither of us expects a playoff bound team. I can't even make sense of what you are saying above.
