My Dad (who was age 86 at the time) called me immediately after the last out. He was so happy. He lived to see the second championship in 2007. He was the best buddy I ever had.

I think the best we can hope for would be 2010 Lackey, and many fans did not think that was very good.

Ciriaco is the forgotten man this Spring. When I was in Fort Myers, he was playing and hitting well. He was doing all the things he showed last season. He hasn't gotten much playing time or attention. I think that he is a very useful utility type guy.

I read that the Sox would be making additional cuts on Wednesday, but I have not been able to find anything about those cuts this morning. Does anyone have any information on that?

We have had some good baseball conversation, and people like Spitball started what I thought would be a really good thread for pure baseball discussion, but the "Strategy" thread has gotten less interest than I expected. BTW: Bard looked like 2012 Bard yesterday. Walk and a HBP and 3 runs. Anyone get info on his velocity?

4 years ago was worse. More guys were missing including Pedroia and Ortiz.

I wasn't defending myself at all. Kings don't have to do that. I was just curious about these fans who you think are miserable when their teams win. It is an absurd notion to me, so I asked for some names to be attached. No names came back in response beyond a reference to talk radio callers, so I will just conclude that my assumption was corrct that it is an absurd notion.

As you know, I go to Spring Training every year. It pisses me off that I miss seeing a lot of players every 4th year because they are at the WBC. I would have liked to have Victorino and Xander this Spring.

Compared to past off seasons the fights on TalkSox have been far fewer and less vicious.

I've been back from Fort Myers since last Wednesday, but I had some business in Boston on Wednesday and Thursday. I finally got home on Friday.

I'll let Fred speak for himself. At least you put a name to the accusation. Although 07 and VA make it seem like there is a legion of such posters and I was wondering who they are. That is why I referred to them as phantoms.

I believe that you post was in the context of responding to a post by 07 who expressed the opinion that certain posters would not be happy if the Red Sox made the playoffs. I was just wondering who those posters are. If you don't know the answer, maybe 07 does. Personally, I laugh at the notion of such posters in the minds of 07 and you.

Who are these phantoms? I'll be happy if in 2013 we return to respectability and play some meaningful games in September. I have said that since last season ended. So, who are these fans that would not be thrilled to make the playoffs?

It's the same issue. It's not like we would be criticizing him for taking opposite sides of the same argument. We need starting pitching depth. Cherries is just realizing this-- a little late IMO.

I don't hate or love FO people. They don't play the game. Cherries record thus far has been undistinguished. His hands were tied last lear by payroll considerations so he was given a pass. This year he had a lot of flexibility with payroll-- a clean slate, and he really has not done much to get excited about. We will have to see how the season turns out, but to come to the conclusion un March 19th that they need some starting pitching depth.. well duh!
