    He woud have favored letting Ortiz walk if the FO had let him walk. He has no stomach to take a view opposite of the FO. What is the basis for anyone believing that some team would have offered a two year contract to a 37 year old injured Ortiz when he didn't get any such offers when he was healthy and age 35 and 36? It absurd to think that he might have been snatched away from us.

    I said since the end of last season, that I would like to see some competitive, respectable baseball in 2013, and maybe a few meaningful games in September. Who are these people that expect to win in 2013 on this site? Names please.

    Promonitions? He was injured when the season started. They were fully aware of his physical condition. They should have monitored his condition. No one was going to sign a guy with one leg out from under us. When and if he healed, we give him two years. You find no fault with the organization when it has its worst season since 1965. You make excuse after excuse without finding fault. That's a bit unrealistic, and a recipe for continuing to suck unless issues are identified and rectified.

    They should have offered him arbitration to lock him in, because no team was going to offer him multiple years until he could run. No one offered him multiple years when he was healthy. This could have been done while continuing to negotiate the 2 year deal. The due diligence would have entailed monitoring his physical condition. They just shouldn't have offered 2 years until he could run. It's pretty much common sense.

    Bradley looked pretty good tonight. He's patient in his plate appearances, yet he swings aggressively. He went 1 for 3. I like his plate discipline and aggressiveness. He looks to have a strong accurate arm-- something we have not seen in CF for more than 10 years. Iglesias still can't get himself on base, but hopefully his new approach will pay dividends. Doubront, Hanrahan, Bailey and Miller all had good outings. Doubront's velocity was down from his norm. He was 90-91 most of the outing. If the Ft Myer's gun had been slow in the past, it is not slow at this point. Hanrahan was clocking in at 96. Miller was at 95-96. Bailey was throwing 93. The O's showcased a couple of live arms out there tonight. Bundy, the starter hit 98 and Gausman was sitting at 97. Brock Holt had a rough night a second base tonight. He couldn't turn 2 easy DPs in the first inning.

    It was stupid to give 2 years. They had access to his medical records and knew that he wasn't healed. They should have known the recovery period and potential complications. They could have locked him up for 1 year to satisfy the fans. He would have no multiple year takers. He didn't have takers last year when he was healthy. Two years was stupid imprudent use of resources. If he wanted to whine, so be it. He whines all the time anyway.

    It will either be WMB or Napoli hitting behind Ortiz. If WMB, starts out hot, I'd put him in the 4 th slot.

    If this calcium buildup is what is known as a bone spur, it can be a very chronic condition that will continue to cause pain until surgery is done to remove the spur. If the spur is not removed, it can rupture the tendon. I'll defer to Jacko on these matters. The stupid thing was giving him a 2 year contract before verifying he was healed. It was stupid for a team building perspective and a PR perspective. If they were worried about PR, they could have done what they had done the prior 2 seasons and offered him arbitration for 1 year. No one was going to give him multiple years with a bad wheel. We could have locked him into another year to address the PR aspect. And since he didn't play a full year, his raise in arbitration probably would not have been very large. It was very stupid decision making in every aspectto give him 2 years before he was healed and could run.

    The ball he hit to RF last night would have been way out of Yankee Stadium, and he got it off the end of the bat. If Middlebrooks stays healthy, I think he easily pops out 25 HRs and he will be hitting behind Ortiz if Ortiz get back in the lineup.

    Iglesias is still swinging the bat aggressively. That is good to see even though he is not getting great results right now.

    I think he threw a couple or three splitters tonight.

    Anyone who saw him on Wednesday would not have been very impressed. He got hit very hard by a bunch of chumps. The hits off him were ripped. As I said earlier, it may have just been a bad outing. Pedro was a once in a generation talent, so concluding that he will not be the next Pedro is not exactly closing the door on his career. I think we need to see if they let him face the opponent's starting lineup or whether he faces reserves. He was far from impressive on Tuesday. We'll have to wait and see.

    There really was very little to report on tonight. Dempster was effective, but I can't see him being very successful in the AL with his stuff. The biggest plus he can give us would be a lot of mediocre innings. Wilson threw okay 92-93. If the gun is 2 mph slow, he still did not throw harder than Carter. Don't know much about Carter but he has a smoother and easier delivery than Wilson. He impressed me more thsn Wilson, but neither is very impressive.

    Maybe the scouts guns aren't calibrated right, or maybe the stadium's gun has been recalibrated. I have never read that Wright throws his knuckle ball at 78. Reports are that he throws it hard but at 74-76. I also don't think he throws his fastball at 86.

    I think the gun at JetBlue is pretty accurate. On Wednesday, it was showing Wright throwing his knuckle ball at 76 and his fastball at 84. I don't think he throws any harder than that. Tonight, the gun was showing Dempster at 85-89. Most of his pitches were 87-88. The Twins' Pelfrey was between 88-92. I think these readings are pretty accurate.

    Fred is on record as 71, so the combined age is closer to 125 than 100.
