  1. I am still basking in the glow too. This off season is flying by. In a couple of weeks, I will be making my Spring Training plans.
  2. At 3/46, Granderson would be an excellent value. He is a top talent due for a big bounce back year. I like the analogy to Victorino, but I think Granderson will get a lot more interest than Victorino. There were worries that a small guy like Victorino was starting to break down physically. Grand, as you point out, has had contact injuries, not wear and tear injuries. I also like Kendrys Morales, but we might be too left-handed to add him.
  3. I concur. Tito should have been the landslide winner in 2004 and 2007, and Farrell should have had no competition for 2013.
  4. Epstein is a non-entity as far as I am concerned. He's a suit from the past. Unlike a former player from glory days, he will not be invited back to take bows or trot out on the field with a jersey on to throw out a first pitch. In 2 seasons with the Cubs he finished next to last with 100 losses and followed that up with a last place finish. If he doesn't get the team above .500 in year 3, I think Cubs fans will become really disenchanted with his program. IMO he took the wrong guy with him when he took Hoyer. I am glad that he left us with Ben the Boob.
  5. I'd trade Webster or Rubby.
  6. As long as Ben doesn't get rid of Ortiz or Pedroia, I'll have no complaints with his offseason plan. Three championships in ten years-- O am still pinching myself. I'd like to see Ells stay, but if Cherries let's him walk that's okay too. BTW, this off season will fly by. Last year, our hot stove discussions started in August. The off season seemed to take forever. We are already in November and our season finished one week ago.
  7. Didn't Shoppach cause trouble when we had him whining about playing time? I think that he was also a problem subsequently in the Mets clubhouse. Why not stick with Ross?
  8. I wouldn't give a 32 year old with a degenerative hip condition a 3 year contract. I'd let him walk before I gave him that length.
  9. With his hip condition, he is not a good candidate for a multi-year contract. He should be a fairly easy 1 year re-sign.
  10. After 2004, we lost 3 guys to free agency-- OCab, Pedro and Lowe. Tek was also a FA. This year Napoli, Drew, Salty and Ells are eligible for free agency. Losing Pedro and Lowe was very disruptive to our pitching and that was magnified by Schilling's injury that cost him a lot of time oit of the rotation. If we lose some or all of this year's crop, it shouldn't be too disruptive to the team. Personally and as a fan, I would prefer that Ells be retained. The others are more easily replaceable. Ells speed is an elite weapon and very rare commodity. I'd be disappointed to lose him.
  11. I am not obsessing about it, just noting that it is a sweet deal. 25-30 years from now people won't remember what role he played on the 2013 team.
  12. 1 inning for 1 ring. A good deal.
  13. I noticed looking at the team stat sheet that Daniel Bard actually pitched in 2 games for the Red Sox in 2013. I just don't remember that. I wonder if he will get a ring?
  14. LOL! That's true. Maybe the judgment of the Dice K signing shouldn't be so harsh in light of his contributions to the 2007 team. His contributions were not near the level of Beckett's that season, but Dice K was solid that season. His career trajectory in Boston would have been completely different if the Red Sox had prohibited him from playing in that. Stupid WBC. He was never the same pitcher afterward. I think that some of the negativity toward Dice K is due to his frustrating pitching style. Also, there is second guessing of the FO that year, because superior American pitchers were available as FAs that year.
  15. Both Damon and Texeira won a Championship with the Yanks. Did they overpay for them? Possibly for Tex. but Damon gave them their money's worth. Both were major contributors to their last World Championship. It's hard to give them wrong for getting those guys.
  16. Lester's second half and post-season excellence.
  17. Napoli's fielding was one of the season's pleasant surprises. His fielding was consistently excellent, but even after watching him for the entire season, I am still surprised at his UZR. His durability was a pleasant surprise especially in light of his hip condition.
  18. I love what John Lackey has done for the Red Sox this season. I would thank him for a great season and his major contribution to this championship. I think that he used the negativism that he experienced as incentive to prove the doubters wrong. That shows a lot of mental toughness. Many guys would just crumble under the criticism and whither away. See Carl Crawford. But he foes have a horse face. That's not a criticism or a cheap shot. It's just a fact. He is second only to Mark Texeira as a horse face. LOL!!
  19. And other teams will start copying the Boob-Ball philosophy.
  20. LOL!! When Farrell left him in the game, I looked st my friend and said "I hope this isn't Farrell's Grady Little moment." Thank goodness that it wasn't.
  21. I was just wondering what people thought about those decisions when they were made before the outcome was known. The people sitting around me at the game were questioning the move. A lot of people were starting to give Lackey an ovation assuming that Farrell was giving him the hook before Holliday pitched. The biggest questionable managerial decision by a manager in the Series was Matheny waiting until game 6 to have his pitchers work around Ortiz. I was amazed at how often he was challenged during the series, especially in the 3 games in St. Louis when Ortiz had very little protection behind him.
  22. It was a perfect season in so many ways. In game 6, the cards made very hard contact against Lackey in the first 2 innings, but almost all of those balls found our fielders. I was very worried when Farrell left Lackey in to face Holliday in the 7th inning with 2 men on base. Holliday was one of the few Cards hinters that scared me. A long ball would have made the score 6-4. Luckily, Holliday only walked and Taz got the next hitter. I was also worried when Taz was replaced in the 8th inning by Workman after facing just hitter. The first two hitters hit the ball very hard against Workman but they found our fielders. He finished out the inning and koji shut them down in the 9th. What did you guys think of Farrell's moves?
  23. He has to win Executive of the Year by a landslide.
  24. I still don't believe that this season unfolded the way it did and that I was there to see it boggles my mind. It's like a big dream to me. I feel like I hit the lottery getting to go to the game. It came completely out of the blue for me. Three World Championships in ten years. Prior to 2004, I would have told you that I would have been happy with 1. The fact that this championship was so unexpected made it as remarkable as the 2004 Championship.
