  1. Interesting fact. It is also interesting that the author thinks that 55 years is a small sample size.
  2. Are international signess considered free agents that can be signed by any team?
  3. X was a free agent?
  4. We have him for 2014, and pitchers have this nasty habit of falling apart after 30. I hope that he and the Sox make the most of 2014. If he has a good season, he's going to want a contract in the neighborhood of $150 million or more. He'll be gone.
  5. I hope he pitches great and the team rides his back to a back to back championship and then sayonara.
  6. And a legitimate 30 HR guy will have some trade value despite a low OBP.
  7. If they had kept Pedro and OCab, a strong argument could be made that they would have won back to back championships. Such a discussion is not a condemnation of the FO whose record of 3 World Championships in 10 years speaks for itself. It's just a "what if" discussion on a cold boring winters day. I don't know why people lose their minds over such discussions as if it is a terrible slight against the FO. Who gives a s*** about slighting FO people anyway, especially if they are no longer here. I'll get a good laugh if Theo keeps coming in last with the Cubs and gets fired. He grew up as a Red Sox fan, and he walked away from the greatest job in sports for a Red Sox fan. He left for the money just like Damon, Papelbon and Ellsbury. Yet people defend him like he is a family member. Amusing.
  8. My recollection was that laRussa went on record with doubts about Renteria performing in Boston.
  9. He was too much money going into the deal.
  10. It may have been second only to Crawford as a Theo bad signing. He couldn't give Renteria away after his one year in Boston. The Sox ate almost all of his salary and got a busted prospect that never amounted to anything.
  11. Merry Christmas, Fred!
  12. I have the same concern. High pitch counts in Japan also scare me. When Dice k came to the Sox, his high pitch counts were legendary. That should have been cause for caution. Why would high pitch counts be needed for lower level competition? That will be a huge issue in transitioning to MLB.
  13. Bill Lajoie was the Assistant GM that made the trade for Beckett and Lowell.
  14. If he keeps finishing last, he will not be in Chicago in 2017.
  15. He's Australian.
  16. Even if he is the next Sandy Koufax, he's not worth it. Remember, that Koufax lasted only until age 31.
  17. I agreee with you on that. Actually, I think the scale has been gradually tilting away from them for decades. I would mark the beginning of that at about the time that Joe Cronin became league president. I think that was in the 60's. The scale tilted back in the 70's with free agency. That was due to economics and market size as opposed to any rigging of the system. I don't think that there has been any systemic unfairness favoring the Yankees in a long time. However, I firmly belilieve think that there was something shady with the series of deals that Gabe Paul pulled off with his former Indian team.
  18. I just don't want to leave any doubt about my intentions to engage you on any topic. Your constant snarky broad based mean-spirited attacks aimed at TalkSox members has made you toxic as far as I am concerned. I'll not validate any of your opinions or discussions by engaging with you. Merry Christmas.
  19. What I stated was an opinion. If you want to debunk an opinion, do a better job than some cherry picked stats. How about a three year analysis of attendance at visiting ballparks for the dates when the Yankees were in town-- or something with some statistical validity. Better yet, put me back on ignore. Things worked better that way
  20. Like I said, the thought that baseball wants the Yankees to be good sickens me, but IMO that is true. When the Red Sox or Cubs are good their fans travel around to see them and they have fans in every part of the country. When the Yankees are good, especialy when they have some top controversial stars, people who hate them in these other cities come out to watch them. Again, this is just my opinion, but I have read similar opinions from writers throughout the years. Throughout the years, the Yankees have gotten away with a lot of shenanigans where baseball looked the other way to keep the competitve scales tilted in favor of the Yankees. Prior to the days of free agency, the Yankees used teams like the Phillies and the KC A's as farm systems. They were constantly poaching their players for a few bucks under the table.
  21. I wasn't talking about TV ratings in the post season. Baseball as a whole prefers the Yankees to be competitive with big stars, because they put fannies in the seats in small market parks like Tampa, KC, Baltimore etc. When the Yankees come to town, those owners fill their pockets. If they Yankees suck and have no stars (like 2013), it hurts the other teams' attendance.
  22. While I don't believe that there has been any conspiracy, the rest of baseball wants the Yankees to be competitive, because they bring profits to the whole league when they have good teams. It makes me sick, but I believe that to be true.
  23. Bradley's plate discipline is impressive, but the option of Nava as our full time RFer if Bradley flops is not a good option.
  24. Are Welker and Petersen going to be activated this weekend?
