  1. There could be mental illness involved or other inherited personality/character traits. It could be a poor choice of friends and acquaintences. The possibilities are limitless.
  2. Unless I had reliable information about the causal effect between parenting and criminal behavior, I wouldn't pass judgment on any parent. There is much more in the way of a causal link between crime by kids with no parents or one parent, and even then I would not pass judgment in a particular case without all the facts. The law does not hold a parent liable for an adult child's torts or crimes, and when the child is a minor the parent is not liable for their bad acts unless there is very specific legislation that would withstand scrutiny. Those laws usually involve the necessary showing of some contributing action by the parent. There is good reasoning that underpins that aspect of our judicial system. Control of offspring is an illusion. You can guide your kids, but from an early age it becomes evident that you can't control them. That is why parents are not liable for their kids bad acts. Can a parent scar or ruin a child? Yes, but we don't know the facts of this case. I am not cutting RemDawg slack because he is the Sox announcer. I wouldn't condemn any parent in a case like this.
  3. Tomorrow is February 1st (2 weeks before pitchers and catchers report) and Drew is still homeless. This has gone much longer than I had expected. As far as I have read, the Red Sox have never made him an offer but have asked him to give them the opportunity to match or exceed any offer. Time is running out on that strategy. Any tram that makes Drew an offer at this juncture will expect him to sign on the spot.
  4. There's a huge difference between speculation and condemnation. The court will sort it all out and determine what would be in the best interests of the child.
  5. No. I did not. Hopefully , Remy ignores them.
  6. Nipper was terrible. The disappointment was that Seaver who was acquired during the season injured his knee ending his career. He coud still pitch and was pitching well for us until the knee gave out. He was much better than Nipper.
  7. Yes, you are.
  8. You are the Dean Emeritus of TalkSox.
  9. VA and I are definitely contemporaries. Fred and I are buds but not contemporaries.
  10. I am glad that I am Matthau. He was the fun one-- a sports fan and a gambler. Which Golden Girl would you want to be?
  11. And our Golden Girl cast member finds that amusing
  12. Life is good. A banner will get raised at Fenway in April. Spring Training is right around the corner. As for getting older, I don't think that 55 is that old. Aging has nothing to do with my stubbornness. I have always been that way.
  13. I don't need luck, but thank you.
  14. He's not and I will not.
  15. Very clever. I'll bet that you gave yourself a high-five after you posted this^.
  16. You seemingly do.
  17. Hobson had an excuse. He was a coke addict. Do you remember the story about the time he went home and left his kid at the ballpark? That must have gone over big with his wife. The Hobson days were a dark period. I was pissed when they gave Walpole Joe the bum's rush out the door because they were afraid to lose Hobson to another organization. Morgan Magic was an exciting time after brainless McNamara got canned.
  18. OMG! We're talking about the World Series and the regular season now. The damn topic was the ALCS!! Stay on topic, and there will be none of this feeling bad or disappointed stuff you bitching moaners!
  19. I agree. Losing Salty might benefit our pitching.
  20. Ignore is a good choice.
  21. I apologize to the rest of TalkSox for cluttering up the place this morning.
  22. "ad nauseum"? Really? I made 1 post in this thread about the 86 season. That is ad nauseum? It was enough for you to take to your passive aggressive attacks where you hide behind not addressing a poster directly. I won't hide my attacks of you in any such cowardly way. In addition to the other things that I have said about you in this thread, my biggest problem with you is that you really are such a dullard, and there is nothing worse that a smart ass with a low IQ.
  23. So what? 1986 was the most depressing time of my Red Sox fandom especially living in NYC at the time. Because of that, the entire 1986 season conjures up bad memories for me. Do you have a problem with that... you Psycho? I said nothing about forgetting every season prior to 2004. I have great memories for 45 years of the players and their feats. The 1978 maybe the best Red Sox team that I have seen. The 1975 - 1979 teams were stacked and fun. So go crawl into your hole of misanthropic misery and stay there .
  24. You find it impossible to post your opinion of the games and the players. What's the fun in that. You would much rather post your opinion (snarky criticisms) about the posters. As usual, you miss the point of things by a mile. Pathetic and miserable.
  25. A nice fat payroll helps. It prevents long droughts of losing. It helps make up for mistakes and injuries. In 19 years, the Yankees have missed the playoffs twice. When is the last time that they had a sub .500 season. Clearly, their financial resources have helped them enormously. Does any other team have that kind of record over the last 20 years?
