1. Come on people. Join up and take a shot at putting the King of TalkSox in his place.
2. With all the blowhards on this site that know everything about baseball, you would think a few of them would want to show off their managerial talents and challenge the King of TalkSox for his championship. Cowards!
3. He has not been having good ABs.
4. The parents of some athletes are unfortunately part of their kid's adoring coddling fan club from an early age. Bad parenting.
5. Give a 19 year old a bunch of money, a car and the fame of being part of a top sports organization with no supervision and this is going to happen over and over.
6. If someone else will run it this year, I pledge to run it next year when I should have much more free time.
7. This guy Corey Brown keeps hitting. He has power and speed. I wonder if he has any chance of sticking. De La Palooka continues to pitch his way to oblivion.
8. Are we going to have a league this season, or are we retiring TalkSox Fantasy Baseball with me as final champion?
9. Workman had a good outing yesterday. That was good to see. He hadn't looked good up to that point. Ortiz still can't hit the side of a barn. Everything that I have seen and heard indicates that he isn't very engaged yet. He is complaining about going through spring training, and mentioning his age for the first time. He has always been a guy that needs 30-50 ABs to get his timing down. Hopefully, he gets a little more involved over the next couple of weeks. Right now, he is sleep-walking. Francisco Cordero is looking like a nice pick up right now.
10. Corey Brown has been ripping the cover off the ball. He hit a blast over 420 feet yesterday. What are his prospects?
11. I was very positive about the 2011 team's chances. The had a stocked roster, but I did not have a good feeling after my Spring Training trip that season. They seemed to be lethargic and sleepwalking through camp. They were not ready to be competitive at the opening bell and they dug themselves a big hole. That was Francona's fault in letting complacency set in. Competitveness and spirirt in camp is a good thing. They need to be engaged in the game.
12. In today's game against the Braves, Doubs went 4 innings throwing free and easy sitting at 90-91 topping out at 92. He had good command and movement and a bunch of k's. He madeit look easy. I think hewill havea big year. Koji threw an inning throwing nothing but strikes as usual. Mujica the same as Koji Tazawa continues to have problems with HR balls. Brown, Herrera and Lavs put together hits in the big inning. Sizemore is running well and swining the bat okay too. I think he will play a big role on this team. Middlebrooks is making contact at a good rate and hitting the ball the other was-- a good sign. Vasquez is great behind the plate, but I was surprised at how small he is.
13. Fans that go to Spring Training are the best. No pink hats, just hardcore diehards. This couple is a great example, and no, MVP, this is not a picture of me and Fred. lol!!
14. I am not quite sure what is going on with Peavy. He cut his non-pitching hand and he doesn't have to bat. So why are they making such a big deal about it opening up etc? Stitch him up and send him out there. I am starting to think that his reputation as a gamer is overblown.
15. And it would be justifiable.
16. Once they start playing sheduled games, fans can't get into watch workouts on non-game days. I would love to get into watch the workouts. One of the things that I liked about City of Palms Park was that the batting cages and extra pitching mounds were in leftfield and you could see them do their work.
17. It's just the first week of camp. The regulars will start going 3 or 4 innings next week.
18. I saw him last spring, followed him during the season in the minors and watched him in his short stint for the Sox. He is not progressing at all. He is far removed from his surgery so he should have regained command, but he has not. I am not sticking a fork in the kid, but he appears to me to be on the road to palooka-ville or oblivion. They will give him every opportunity, but I doubt that he can be more than a bullpen guy someday.
19. Rubby looked awful today. Terrible command and when he did throw strikes they hit him very hard. He's on his way to palooka-ville.
20. They did draft him, but it was in a late round and they offered very little money. He decided to go to Vanderbilt and the O's drafted him out of Vanderbilt. The kid is small, but very fast. He has good range in the OF and an adequate arm. I saw the kid take BP,and I did see similarities to his old grand dad.
21. My first game this Spring was Sunday against the O's. Here are some impressions: Doubront threw nice and free with good velocity and movement. He looks to be in good shape and he went through his innings without breaking a sweat. I think he will be our Andy Pettitte for years to come if we keep him in the organization. Pedey is swinging the bat like he did before his injury. He's cutting loose. Ortiz looks like he packed on a few lbs, but he still crushes the ball. Napoli hit a bomb and looked good in the field too making a leaping catch. As for the new guys, I have no conclusions, based on such limited observatin, but here are a few impressions: Bogaerts will put up some power numbers if makes consistent contact. The ball jumps off his bat. Brentz is a big boy, broad in the shoulders and very strong. Cecchini had a terrible AB late in the game. I saw Yaz's grandson. I recognized him during BP. He has some mannerisms of his granddad, and the swing was recognizeable. When he left the cage, i was able to confirm his identity afterseeing his nose. There is a resemblance.
22. I left him off my list because I saw a lot of him last Spring. I like his patience at the plate and he has an aggressive swing. Good arm.
23. Boras is now putting out the word that Drew will consider sliding over to second base for a multiple year contract. This could be an attempt to get the Yankees interested.
24. Boy, the Yankees have not finished with their Dumpster diving. They are desperately throwing it against the wall and hoping that some of it sticks.
25. That is one of my favorite Branch Rickey sayings. If O'Malley hadn't pushed Rickey out of Brooklyn, the Dodgers would still be there, and so would I.
