6?11 VS O's
seabeachfred replied to NativeBostonian's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
If we can get some clutch hits and some of our guys hit better with men on base and if De La Rosa pitches a solid game we could. A lot of ifs though. And remember Bradley is back in the lineup tonight. -
Andres Torres, the epitome of a total reject. No team wanted him this year, he barely hit over 200 last season, he has no power, very little speed and adds nothing to the team. What the hell is going on in Cherington's head anyway? This guy is just another Jackie Bradley save for the fact that he is old enough to have been retired. Oh, I get it.....he is the handler for the Manchurian Candidate.

6/10 vs O's
seabeachfred replied to NativeBostonian's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Very piss poor with RISP. He was hitting 167 going into last night's game and he left a few on base and five more tonight. That's why he is less harmful to the team batting in the second spot and must not be put in a run producing spot in the order until he shows he can drive in some runs. He looked like he might be heading that way during the winning streak but he is back again farting in the clutch. However, Pedroia and Ortiz have to start hitting a lot better as well because they are the key hitters for us along with Napoli. Tonight we got great pitching from Workman and the bullpen while Sizemore and Herrera got hits as well. That should keep Bradley and the Manchurian Candidate on the pine for a few more games. Hell, we've now won two of the last three and to me it feels like we just won the pennant. Can we now start winning more consistently? And for the record, when Drew does start his next game I hope he gets three hits and drives in the winning run. I didn't like his signing but now that we have him whether some of us like it or not, he is one of us and I want him to do his very best. Let's clear that up right now. -
The Quarter Pole; What's the problem?
seabeachfred replied to jacksonianmarch's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
We'll get a quick view of your boy Rubby tomorrow. Is he the phenom we saw against Tampa Bay or the inept one we saw against the Tigers. I also think that Owens and Renaudo might just be good young stalwarts for us in the coming years and maybe Barnes as well. We'll certainly need a few of these along with Webster to stand up for us because it now seems certain the Red Sox are too damn cheap to want to sign Lester to a long term contract and as far as I'm concerned Buchholz doesn't seem to able to muster enough of anything to give us the pitcher we sometimes thought we had. Go Rubby tomorrow. -
The Quarter Pole; What's the problem?

On the money Ted, an A+ in my book. However, let's break it down and see how feasible this picture you painted is. One..Victorino. Can he stay healthy? He was a ball of fire for us last season and a sound Shane would definitely pay dividends with his defense, speed, hitting and winning attitude. But can we get him to stay in one piece? Bradley has to go. His confidence is just about shot and we can see he can't get around on a good fastball and he makes it worse by swinging harder at them thereby slowing his bat speed, which he doesn't have much of. However, there we have a counterpoint to Farrell. Just as the manager seems to have a man crush on the Manchurian Candidate, Cherington seems hell bent for leather to prove to himself that Bradley is the next coming of something. Believe his benching will not be very long---two or three games at the most and back in center to pollute the lineup with his enormous strikeout totals. Peavy and Drew won't get us a bag of peanuts for them but I'd still take the peanuts since neither is worth s*** to us right now, and the biggest canard perpetrated by the half-ass front office concerns Jon Lester. If John "Prune Face" Henry is too damn cheap to pay the going rate then trade him for something of value instead of a draft pick, a pick that might turn out like Bradley or the immortal Lazy Lars Anderson or Stoly Pimental, or the whole host of other "phenoms" they've hyped who turned out to be total crap. As for the rest, back up the truck. -

Well that Sunday night euphoria didn't last too long, did it? Tell you what I'm going to do.....pop a DVD into the telly and pretend it's 2004, 2007 and 2013. Anybody who has a better idea let me know. -
6/8 Apropos of nothing
seabeachfred replied to Station 13's topic in Mike Grace Memorial Game Thread Forum
Fine mvp......send him to Pawtucket where he can work on his hitting. I wonder just how much his confidence has been shaken by his inability to hit and the huge strikeout totals he has amassed. As for upside, until he can show he can hit the only upside is as a fourth outfielder for defensive purposes. Keep in mind, as I'm sure you have, he cannot run all that well, he doesn't have the ability or speed to bunt for base hits, is limited in his stolen base potential and has shown very little power. Right now he seems more of a minus of the regulars in the lineup save for Raymond Shaw Drew, AKA, the MC. -
6/8 Apropos of nothing

Only if he could play CF----which I wouldn't doubt he could. Let's face it Ted, there are two guys who need to go......Bradley, the strikeout machine and Raymond, the Manchurian Candidate Drew. I would bet dollars to donuts we would make a nice recovery if we would jettison those two and somehow see one or two of our o ther pitchers start producing as they should. -

Station---let me throw something out at you. The Drewites will hate it and one person in particular will rail that her day was ruined by it but since I go by facts I don't really give a s***. Did you notice that Drew was pinched hit for in the eighth inning and wasn't in the game in the ninth when Papi unloaded? I noticed. Drew is the Manchurian Candidate dumped on us when we were going good and now we have an 071 hitter with a slew of strikeouts helping us to lose five games in a row until he removed from the game. Then we score and then we win. If only Farrell hadn't had that man crush on the guy and Cherington wouldn't have had brain cramp we would have Holt on third until WMB came back; then we could have put Holt in left field, trade for Denorfia and get Bradley the hell out of Boston on the same plane with Raymond (TMC) and we might be in the tall cotton soon. Sorry it hasn't happened and most likely won't and I predict we will pay dearly for it. Good though we finally won a game. I felt like we had won the pennant last night. -

pessimist!!!!!!!!!

One for 14 plus looking s***** at the plate doing it. Totally agree with you. Drew will not hit for at least a month and maybe longer. As for Holt, the hell with this super utility BS. He needs to be in the lineup every game.....just as I've been saying for the past few weeks. And as for Drew, he reminds me of that movie The Manchurian Candidate, that guy named Raymond I think. A mole deposited into the very bowels of the edifice designed to destroy from within. OK, I got that from Chad Finn but it was pretty accurate in my opinion. At this stage Drew should not be in Boston. Then again, I've all along he should never have been in Boston this year.
-
Whatever!!!!! Just keep coming up with some good news. We all can use some.
-
I agree my friend but it is hard to feel over-confident when you're going to face Scherzer tonight in the first place......and it becomes even more of a chore when you have Ross, Drew and Bradley hitting in the seventh, eighth and ninth holes.
-
Good point RSF3. Still we have to do something about our outfield. Offensively it is the worst in baseball. Remember, we are the Red Sox. Offense is often our calling card.

Station......JBJ IS a bust, a total bust......Earth to Cherington, Bradley is a bust and Sizemore has had it and we have at least a half dozen stiffs we need to put on a truck for a one way trip out of Boston. -
Wrong, we're 0-4 with him back---and get this madam, we are now platooning at SS with Drew and Herrera. That really makes us look like real contenders. The fact is this season is about shot to hell. We need to start rebuilding the team and deciding who we carry on our team in the future. It is obvious not only Drew but Sizemore, Bradley, Capuano, Mujica and a couple of others have to be put on plane at Logan Airport and sent on a one way ticket to Zanzibar.

Is it time to trade Bucholz, I think yes
seabeachfred replied to joeycaps's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
He is hitting exactly 200 after two-plus months this season, and he hasn't hit one home run. He hasn't stolen more than two or three bases, and he has struck out about 40% of the time. If you can't hit better than 270 or so in AA or AAA, especially when you can't bunt for hits and have only average speed and lit tle power you are more a liability than an asset to your team. Jackie needs to go just where Jacko said....to the NL and a less pressurized place. He is not going to bit in Boston and anyone who still believes he will is only kidding themselves. -
When you have as s***** an outfield as we have you DO draft for need.
-
A couple of days ago after being swept by Cleveland I came to the harsh conclusion that his season is done, finished, wasted and over. Time to start rebuilding the team and in my opinion it needs to start now. We are not going anywhere this season. That seven game winning streak was a mirage and to me the front office is in a confused state and proved it with the signing of Stephen Drew. All it did was add another weak hitter to an already ailing lineup, and now we see we're even platooning there with Herrera. How can you expect to compete with stiffs like that playing a key position for you? In the next few weeks there will be posters on this board who will offer suggestions of what we ought to do, and I hope the front office is thinking the same way. We are done this season. We must rebuild. And I also like the first baseman we drafted today. A good RH power hitter built for Fenway Park.....like the Chavis kid. Maybe they will develop into the players that will make us successful again in a few years along with Swihart, Cecchini, Owens and Renaudo.....and, yes, maybe even your boy De La Rosa.

We badly need a win RSNC84. We cannot afford to get waylaid as we did in Cleveland. It would be nice to see Drew and Bradley and Sizemore on the pine tomorrow along with Ross so we can put our best offensive team on the field. -
Put a sock in it VA; you can't be that stupid. If you don't like what I write put me on ignore and your problem will be solved. You also have a miserable way of handling an inconvenient truth if you don't like it. Well get the hell off your Yellow Brick Road. What I wrote was true and no matter how much you get your pants in an uproar what I said doesn't make it any less true. We stink right now PERIOD. We have the worst hitting outfield in baseball; we have two decent starting pitchers, we signed a guy who hasn't played in seven months and will no doubt add to our stinking offense and we have undone much of the good we garnered last week. Those are truths; those are facts. They are verifiable. Look it up---and from this point on put me on ignore because I don't want to hear another peep from your twirpy big mouth. Gee, I feel better already.

Michael Chavis is a shortstop but projects also as a third baseman and is rated one of the very best high school hitters in the country. Scouts said today they were surprised he lasted that long for the Red Sox to grab him. He is not an outfielder like we need but, then again, infielders routinely are switched to the outfield nowadays. If the kid can hit, all reports say he will, we got ourselves a real top prospect. Michael Kepich was also said to have lasted longer than scouts figured he would and projects as a potential solid starting pitcher. He has a fastball clocked around 92, excellent for high school and those Texas pitchers usually throw real heat. So far so good as far as I can see. Now let's get two g ood hitters for the outfield so we don't have to stomach what we have out there right now.
-
We'll see on that. He should be on the phone daily seeing if anything is available. Our outfield sucks to high heaven and instead of trying solidify it he goes and sign Drew, an infielder who hasn't faced live ML pitching since October and already is 0 for 6 with three strikeouts and a botched bunt. And if he can't make any deadline deals or deals of any kind he Cherington ought to back up the truck, put Mujica, Miller, Gomes and Sizemore on it and send it on.....and then send Bradley down. Jackie has no damn business being in the Red Sox lineup. He can't hit, he can't run fast enough to steal bases, he can't bunt....he can only field. And, wow, that's what we need another fielder like Ross and Drew.
