  1. I take it most of you think that Bogaerts will get better and better as the years progress. I have some real doubts about that. I remember saying back in April that this guy could be a choker and caught some hell for it. But the facts are there....He does not hit with RISP; he does not hit hit in the clutch and he has looked like crap since his move to third base. It could be with experience that he gains more confidence in himself and learns the pitchers better, but it is also possible that his inability to hit when it counts could turn out to be an albatross around his neck and the team's. As for the trade involving Stanton I would do it within two shakes of a monkey's ass, but I agree with my friend 700 Hitter....the trade will never happen, at least for us.
  2. I'm leaving for Chicago early tomorrow so I'll be out of site for a few days but here's what I think is of vast importance for the team. If they cannot sign Lester they have to trade him and not wait until he is a FA and we blow it again trying to resign one of our FA. To hell with a draft choice; we need some real almost ready talent for the guy. The Dodgers are now searching for a starting pitcher with Beckett on the DL and Haren being ineffective. We could at least get Lester out of the AL and out of the arms of the Yankees if we can trade him to the Bums. For him we demand Joc Peterson and Corey Seager, a CF and a SS. Walla!!!!!!!! Two positions filled with quality young players for a long time. If necessary we can throw in Bradley to even the trade. Now I would much rather keep Lester on the Red Sox but everything Cherington has tried this season has turned to crap so I'm not confident he can get his s*** together and get Jon signed to a long term contract. He had better be sure that if he does trade Lester he gets solid young talent for them, and if it is the Dodgers it is those two I just mentioned.
  3. As long as Drew is around the truck will not be loaded for delivery. He is another sunk cost and should be DFA'd even if it results in Farrell being put on suicide watch.
  4. This certainly doesn't help Jacko or his team and the shame of it all is that this year the AL East is totally winnable and totally wide open. We've now been eliminated and unless the Yankees address their starting pitching and get at least two good pitchers they may be out of it as well. On the Mike Francesa show (which we get on Fox Sports 1 out here) he has hinted that this year may be the year the Yankees have to bite the bullet and become sellers. Wow that's a real mouthful coming from the semi-Yankee camp where the press and media moguls reign. I see the Yankees next off season going on another big spending spree for starting pitchers.......and guess who will be in their gun sites Ben? Ben wake up. Ben wake up. Ben, wake the f*** up!!!!!! You blow this one and it will be the beginning of your complete undoing in Boston.
  5. jd, I don't know if you read one of my missives a day or two ago concerning our great ability to come from behind to TIE only to lose the game. Tonight was the 16th f***ing time we've done that this year----that is, come from two or more runs down only to lose in later innings. That my friend is the sign of a truly s***** team---and I have been insistent that their handling of Bogaerts has set him back at the very least a year and might have actually screwed with his head so that he will never be the player for us that could have been....AND FOR WHAT ?????" So Farrell's pet Drew could get into the lineup and screw things up royally while hitting a frigid 131?????????? Somebody in the front office, please wake the hell up and put an end to this farce.
  6. Spud----trade Drew??? Are you freakin' kidding????? Who the hell would want him? He a 131 hitting garbage of a player. He will have to be released and he needs to be released. The house cleaning starts with him. I also notice the big Drew fans have been very noticeable by either their silence or their absence. Think about it for a moment. From the moment he was inserted into the lineup in Cleveland on June 2 the team has taken a tumble the likes of which has seldom been seen in Boston. Sure, it is not all his fault but he is the weakest link and I have gotten tired of saying it but I will be convinced of it until he is gone, but his signing was the very worst thing that could have happened to this team this season. He had no ST, no other team even gave him a sniff but like a bunch of flunkies we went and gave him ten million....AND FOR WHA T???????? He has to go.
  7. VJ--User Name has pulled one of his disappearing act that he has become infamous for. Let him make some ridiculous comment in criticizing someone that comes back t bite him on his tush and he off to Zanzibar. He will return when the heats cools off, but remind him of it when he returns. He'll have some lame excuse for you. I wish I could be the one to call him out on that but I've saved myself the misery of dealing with the guy buy putting him and one other person on ignore, and believe me I feel like a new man not having to deal with those two.
  8. As I said to 700 Hitter--it depends who is actually running baseball operations and how much power Cherington really has if it is him really in charge.
  9. While no one could see the 2013 team do what it wound up doing, I would bet dollars to donuts that no one could envision the 2014 being as rotten a team as it is right now. When you discuss the team it is very hard to be positive now because there is very little to be positive about. Fifteen times this season we've come from two or more runs behind in a game to TIE it only to lose late in the game or in extra innings. That is pure crappy baseball and a pure crappy team. How many times have we reversed course under those circumstances? FOUR!!!!!. Nothing speaks volumes more than that pathetic record, but before we go on any further we have to ask ourselves now that we are out of it (and we most certainly are) who is actually pulling the strings and running the show. Is Cherington still the master of his office or has Lucchino and his half-ass sidekick Werner injected themselves once again in baseball operations. There is no doubt that there are at least a half-dozen players on the team who need to go like yesterday and three or four we might get something for in trades. And it is becoming apparent to me that we have done a terrific job of screwing our young players by over-hyping them, misusing them or not using them once they are brought up. Here is where John Henry has to come out of his semi-annual slumber and put people in their right places and have a delineation of authority where their talents belong---that is if Lucchino has, now for the fourth time in his reign, interfered in baseball operations for which they doesn't know s*** from shinola. If I'm wrong about Larry, then it is up to Cherington to start pulling the trigger and at least start the process whereby we might be a better team next year and instead of coming back from a deficit to TIE, actually win most of those games.
  10. On another board earlier this afternoon I officially threw in the towel on the season----and knew my call was on the money when the team once again for the 15th time this season came back from at least a two run deficit to TIE but not win. How many times the other way? Someone said six but it has been four times. If that doesn't capsulize this season nothing does.......and Drew reverted back to his normal self. Let's simply cheer when we win a game guys and gals because that's all we're going to be able to cheer for. Meanwhile out here in sunny So. Cal the Dodgers are in first place, the Angels are definitely headed to the WC if they don't win their division and I'm ready to start hitting something. Hey Cherington, if you are really in charge, and from what some of my Boston area friends tell me you're being pecked at by Lucchino, but if that I false it is time to back up the truck. It is time to g et rid of excess garbage and go with the kids. If you can't sell the bums then just release them.
  11. Except when they play the Red Sox. We play the Pale Hose next BTW.
  12. You know Farrell ran a damn good game in the opener. He pinched hit for Drew and got a hit from Gomes, pinched hit for Bradley and got a game winner from Herrera. That took some guts because Drew had a homer and Jackie had two hits. So to me he showed some real balls from the dugout. The second game win? Not so much where Gomes was concerned. The guy just has one problem after another with righties and probably should have been kept on the pine until a pinch hitting duty against a left came up in a tight situation, but I guess Farrell wanted to reward him for a come through hit in the first game. Aside from that I have no more clue than you do as to why Gomes was in that lineup tonight. Well Bellhorn supplies the answer. Gomes was 7 for 18 against Jiminez going into this game with three dongs. I guess that's a good reason but we could have used a much better game from Lackey tonight, not to mention getting more than a half-dozen hits.
  13. Yes, and I should be talking the loudest on this since I have been running down those two for quite some time. Today they were the difference in the game. Drew made one of the greatest plays I ever saw a shortstop make in the 8th inning to turn a single to center into a DP. Think of the bad things that would have accrued has that ball gone into CF. He also hit a homer, and Bradley got two hits, and hustled his ass off to score on an infield hit and error. We can use more of that from them but it was encouraging. Kudos to both of them. You see, there are times I can act like an ******* but there are times I don't. This is one time that I throw praise to those guys and hope they can continue to get better. Doesn't both me to take egg off my face if our team wins.
  14. Another great job by Lester today. He should now have two shutouts in a row. Right now he is almost as good as the best two pitchers in baseball. For pete's sake Cherington sign the guy.
  15. Well sk, die in peace if you want to but give yourself another 70-80 years or so before you are taken home. I do know where you're coming from though. The tough part was that I was hoping that we would at least be contending this season instead of what has gone down. Today's first game was encouraging. Can it keep being encouraging the second game too?
  16. Sometimes these big trades don't always work out, but Samar and Hammel work out well for the A's they might actually get to the WS this season. That was a great trade on paper for them.
  17. I thought they pulled off a big trade....Then I read your post. Talk about the air being let out of your balloon.
  18. I'm with you all the way on that YT but there is no way this side of the universe that the Angels would even listen to a trade offer for Mike Trout. Already out here he's become an icon while Angels and Dodgers fans argue who is the biggest young icon, Trout or Clayton Kershaw. I also ask myself where OUR next young phenom?
  19. I'll give you one guess!!!!!!! Two if you want to complete the riddle.
  20. If all of you are saying that utility means a substitute I am down on that completely. Brock Holt has proven that he is a Major League player, and keep in mind that when in the Pittsburgh organization he led the International League in hitting, a league that usually doesn't favor hitters. Holt has show he can play center, the other outfield positions and most of the infield ones as well. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he could play shortstop in a pinch. As far as the comparisons with Ciricaco, Holt is only 26 and had a good minor league record. From what I knew about Pedro, his minor league years were average at best and proved that be being a flash in the pan even though I loved the way he pummeled the Yankees.
  21. Spud, five will get you ten that he will not be a Yankee problem very much longer at all. Word from my Yankee friends is that he is on his way out. Yes, I do have a couple of friends who are Yankee rooters. We can't all be perfect.
  22. Henry Owens pitched for one of the Huntington Beach, Calif. high schools not that far from my backyard if the Freeways are clear. He was a helluva pitcher in high school and might be a future stalwart for us. Still, I'd love for the Red Sox to get out the cashbox, sign Lester to an extension and have him pitch for us another five years and monitor Owens as he breaks in and develops into what might turn out to be a top notch pitcher. Good lefties don't grow on trees.
  23. Well a happy 4th of July to all of you out there. This is a perfect day to say to hell with the diet and calories. Stuff yourself with good food and enjoy the day
  24. What a waste that guy is. If you remember he actually pitched some decent ball for both us and the Yankees but talk about someone chasing demons. As to said Station, what a numbnut.
  25. Youk---that's exactly what it is.....a feeling. Nothing absolute, just belief that some of us are seeing maybe more than meets the eye. Is it possible moving Xander of SS for Drew played with his mind? Could be. Or it could as some others are insisting just a slump, but boy what a slump for baseball's No. 2 prospect going into the season. The best way to put the first belief to rest would be for X to start hitting with authority again.
