  1. Kilo, my goof. I posted and was told I couldn't post for another minute, then posted again, and was told the same thing. Then they go ahead and post them all and make me look like a jackass. Sorry about that. Capeman is right, though. I think it is time to put this Roger crap to bed once and for all and move on. We need another good starter and we can't fool ourselves on that. What to do now?
  2. Capeman, ok, we are finally on the same page with Roger----he is not coming here. I have no doubt he is looking for the big buck, but your point about him already being "home" seems right on the mark. Holding out some hope even in the face of reality is only done by me because we need another good starting pitcher who can go out there and win us some games on a consistent basis. DiNardo can't beat anybody, Wakefield is pitching very mediocre this year at best, and Clement in just plain inconsisten and, if you want my opinion, gutless. Now since I respect your baseball knowledge, you tell me what we do if Roger doesn't come here. You don't actually believe we can win with the rotation we have now, do you? I have some ideas but I'd like to hear yours first if you wouldn't mind.
  3. Yaz, I do get carried away sometimes, don't I? Well, wanna know the truth? I keep looking at the Yankees' World Series titles and how many they won in a row, and it pisses me off no end. I say to myself, now it is our turn to win a bunch and I know that is out of the question. Those dynasties are very rare, and rarer nowadays. Still, I think as a selfish Red Sox fan that we are entitled to our share of them and want to see more than just the 2004 Flag flying over Fenway. Yes, call be greedy.
  4. Jsing, I think we are wasting our time in the Clemens hunt. I hark back to the old saying that "you can't go home again." Roger was once a Red Sox stalwart; that was years ago and he has put it behind him and moved on. So have we. Personally, I think it would be a great capping to his career to return to Fenway and lead the Red Sox to the World Series triumph he almost led us to in '86. That's movie stuff, though. Of course, I wouldn't mind it at all if he suddenly decided to come "home" that you would remind me of how way off the charts I was on this thing. It wouldn't bother me a bit.

  8. Interesting to hear wax poetic about Francona----and that is your right if you feel he is a good manager. Many of us don't happen to feel that way and we have a lot of past performances to help back us up. One in particular occurred in Wednesday's game with the Yankees. Wily Mo Pena was cleared to play by the doctors and yet Francona not only did not start him, he didn't use him twice as a pinch hitter when he had two stiffs coming to bat. In an 8-6 game perhaps Pena's use could have changed the game since there were runners on base on both occasions. If you have a good reason to call that good managing and good strategy, then tell me why. I'm no know-it-all and would like to educated by a fiery Francona fanatic. Though I disagree with your post, I have to hand it to you. It was well written and very entertaining.
  9. 700, I might to slightly disagree with you on that. There are some managers I would certainly take over Francona in a heartbeat------Leyland, Scioscia, Guillen, and Cox to name four. Do we have the worst manager in baseball? No! Do we have one of the worst? I believe so. Just my opinion but I have seen enough bungling from Tito to last a lifetime and the beat goes on.
  10. Crunchman, I take it you were directing your well versed rant at someone else because if you were directing it at me you were preaching to the choir and wasting a lot of words. Who in their right minds could argue with what you said? I have never liked Francona as a manager; he is a strategic mistake waiting to happen every game, and what I'm afraid of is that he used every bit of luck any manager is alloted in a lifetime during the 2004 Playoffs when amazingly he actually outmanaged Scioscia, Torre and LaRussa. He certainly didn't do it with his ability as a field general and he continues to bob and weave and drive us all to madness. I don't want to give that 2004 World Series Title back but I'm afraid that gave the rainman an extra three or four years to allow himself to screw up one game after another and become in many ways more of a liability than an asset.
  11. Crunchy, I think by the third game of that series we were all in a mood to revolt no matter who he brought in. As it turned out nothing would have helped us that night, but Curtis did come through big in I think the fourth game and wound up being the winning pitcher so by that time he had earned some points. I do remember, though, that I was ready to take the restaurant apart where I was on that October 16th when the game got out of hand. It got so bad I reinjured my back, wound up getting a case of sciatica which cost me a trip to Ireland and I lost #2,000 which was not refundable. My friend, you were not alone that night.
  12. jsing, that is good news. The Yankees can moan and groan about not having Matsui for three months and Sheffield for the past two weeks, but we have been without Coco since the fifth game of the season and we've managed to hold our own. He can't get back and contribute fast enough for me. Thanks for the heads-up.
  13. Crunch, whether we can accept it or not, Francona's winning of the 2004 World Series probably bought him five years of time with the Red Sox. Sorry to say that because I think most of us know he is very challenged in the strategy department. To have Pena ready to hit and not use him in that situation late in the game yesterday borders on the fringes of lunacy.
  14. MTB, there IS more to the story. Just read 700's post. It says it all.
  15. Monty, I have heard that word precautionary bandied about many times and it always spells bad news. The good news was that Pena was cleared to play yesterday and our brilliant manager decided to give Harris another start in CF. Methinks our team has to work overtime with that "brilliant" field general leading them. Theo, step in and send Harris away before FrancoMa winds up batting him leadoff.
  16. RSR, that is great news. I only hope his timing is not that much off so he can contribute to the hitting attack. The speed and defense will be there but I wonder how long it will take him to get his hitting shoes on. We'll see.
  17. Point taken Hammer. Got to keep you and your friend separated in my mind, but he did have a good point. Can we get some runs to Wakefield tonight? He is due to get some real batting support, don't you think?
  18. MTB, fortunately for us it is the Yankees problem, not ours. Of course, Steinbrenner has weighed in with some choice words on the subject and I'm sure that isn't much of a help. Anway, as long as the Red Sox can handle their problems we'll be ok. As far as Coco is concerned, his return is eagerly awaited but I want him back at 100% so that there is no recurrence of that injury.
  19. OOOPPPSS, I got you mixed up with Riverside Yankee man. Still, it is better for us Red Sox fans to keep our mouth shut about A-Rod and let you Yankee supporters get on his case. We have our own problems to work out. Have a great day.
  20. Riverman, that is great news. My only concern is how long it will be before Coco gets his timing down and can start hitting like we all know he can. It would certainly add to our team's strength to have him back in centerfield for us. As for your A-Rod Sucks, please, let sleeping dogs lie. The Yankee fans are all over him for his lack of clutch hitting when the chips are down; let them get all over him. Last night, for instance, he really came through for them-----when they were eight runs down in the ninth. That's what we want to see, but I for one just want to keep quiet about it and let their fans give the guys all the hell they want. :harhar:
  21. Riverside, those last two outfielders you posted do look a little sick to the eye and hopefully they will be gone in due course. Mohr has good power but has trouble finding the ball with his bat and Harris has speed but you cannot steal first base. We are holding our own right now and doing well but we ought to be better when we get at full strength.
  22. Yaz my man, stop complaining. At least you found the Red Sox when you were still a young man. I was just about 60 when I discovered that they were the team I had been searching for since the Dodgers left Brooklyn. It is hell trying to make up for lost time and that is what I have been attempting to do what with me being on four Red Sox websites, five before I decided I couldn't handle it. Today I suggest to fans who follow baseball but root for no particular team to take a good look at the Red Sox but be ready to duck and cover because you will be bitten and there is no cure.
  23. Capeman, bad word. Getting him ON TRACK is what I should have said. Thanks for the heads up. Hey, we need every good man we can get to contribute to the cause. Let's leave the untracking to the other teams, ok?
  24. Jsing, very true what you said. Pena has done a good job for us filling in, but with the dog days of summer only two months away wouldn't it be great to have four outfielders around to spell each other and keep all of them fresh? My worry is that Coco will come back and his timing will be all shot to hell and we'll spend a good month getting him untracked. The sooner we can get him back in the lineup the sooner his timing will return. It can't come sooner from where I'm sitting.
  25. Jsing, I've heard this song before when a player gets injured and his recovery is shoved back through some wierd occurrance. I knew when he got hurt that he wasn't going to be back by early or even late May. I think Crisp may be a very slow healer and one of those who we have to keep our fingers crossed does not get hurt very often because he just might be laid up a long time. Some players are quick healers and some are not. I wouldn't be surprised if Coco is not ready by the middle of June or early July at the earliest. This lingering stay on the DL has been a wakeup call for all of us.
