  1. Uribe???? You have to be kidding. We just got rid of one lousy hitter in Gonzales. This guy is even worse with the bat. No thanks. We need to upgrade offensively at that spot, a leadoff man or second hitter who could get on base or hit one out of the park on occasion. Maybe an Aurilia or a Counsell if we can't sign anyone else, but no Uribe.:thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown
  2. Hammer, good to see you here again. I thought you left us. You know it's like the old spinster who keep taking in stray dogs. Our Boy Blunder can't help himself; he has to take in as many washed up rejects as he can get. Cora was rejected by the Dodgers and Guardians so now we have a guy who probably would have been hard pressed to even get an offer from any other team. Good work Theo; we knew we could count on you for screwing up again. What's next? Resigning Jason Johnson?:thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown
  3. Laheim (sic). Good for Youk. Now go out there next season and go 305-17-81 for us and we'll all be happy. Youk is my type of player. :D :D
  4. Well, if we dither any longer with J.D. Drew we might find ourselves with Trot again, but, believe me, he will not agree to be a 4th OF after playing regularly for so many years. Remember two things. He is only 32 and, secondly, Wily Mo Pena cannot play RF at Fenway worth a damn. Of course, all this could be moot if we would just sign J.D. and be done with it. I have to admit, I am in a minority here and on other boards with Drew, but I saw this guy all last season and he fits the Red Sox like a glove and I also believe he is ready to have some real big seasons. We need to sign this guy to put this topic to rest once and for all. :D :D
  5. Are you really a cynical bastard Jackson? Well, it looks like I've found by blood brother on this board. You know what, though? I am amazed that the A's aren't trying like mad to keep this guy. Their offensive attack is questionable as it is and will be only weaker if they don't keep this bopper or get one to take his place. Good pitching can only take you so far if you don't have the means to score a few runs for them.
  6. Man, after reading all these posts I think I need a drink real bad. I thought I had this thing fairly wired as to who was going where but I'm more confused than ever. In my opinion, though, we should sign J.D. Drew and put him in right field, bat him fifth and expect a consistent and solid year from him, something along the lines of 300--26-108, good defense, great OBA, and even a few stolen bases. We need someone consistent behind Manny because that killed us last year. We also need to make the right decision on closer and set-up man, and Drew's signing would enable us to put guys like Pena, Crisp, Murphy and Hinske up as potential bargaining chips for needed pitching. To me it's a no brainer.
  7. My assessment of WMP is a little harsh Ex, but it is going by what I saw from him in person at Fenway and Yankee Stadium. In eight years he still does not know how to play the outfield. That plus he hits when no one is one base, when we are way ahead or way behind but rarely in the clutch, and he still hasn't learned to lay off the outside breaking ball after all this time. He may someday come around but we are not in a rebuilding mode and we need those runners driven home and those flyballs and line drives caught, not bouncing off his glove or zooming over his head. WMP needs to go to a team that is willing to give him two or three years while they rebuild with him a part of it. We are not rebuilding and need players who can make the plays and get the hits when they count.
  8. Right you are Bosox. I was at Anaheim Stadium for that three game series and I know of at least four balls he hit on the button that were snared by the defense. I saw this happen on NESN a few times as well. If some of those balls fall in next season Pedroia will be a player we will all be talking about. I'm a big fan of Dustin and I think he will bring a lot of energy and a solid bat to the team starting next year.
  9. Schill, that's the beauty of having a guy like J. D. Drew. He can hit either second or fifth and that's a big plus. He has a high OBA and if he gets his pitch he gives us power in the No. 2 position, and he is a great run producer in the 5th hole. He could easlily top his 100 RBI's batting behind Papi and Manny, especially if we have a one-two punch at the top of the order that can get on base consistently. :D :D
  10. Hammer, it is time to admit that the trade WAS a complete waste. Sure, Pena has tremendous power, but the guy cannot hit a breaking pitch and in the clutch that is all he sees and that is why he is so poor in the those situations. Combine it with the fact that the guy is a total disaster in the outfield and you know why the Red Sox are thinking of trading him while his value is still somewhat high.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  11. Well I comprehend well Rdsx and my take on Pena is that he is such a terrible fielder that he is a major risk every time the Red Sox go out in the field, and what's worse he's been that way since he signed with the Yankees. The Reds realized that when they kept Austin Kearns and traded Pena to us.
  12. Well Rdsx, I comprehend very well and I don't see Wily Mo Pena as our answer to anything unless you call butchered fly balls and a tons of runners left on base just what the doctor ordered. He should be traded as soon as some team offers us a good set-up man or closer. If Linebrink is available for him I would more than be willing to pay his air fare out of Boston.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  13. GOM, Jsing will tell you soon enough, but I don't see that much there either. Crisp could come back with a good year, but he is a rotten leadoff man with little plate discipline. However, he has shown he can hit and that's a plus even with his ragarm in center. Pena, on the other hand, should be sent out of town on the double if we can find a taker. He is a DH players who can't do that with our team, and needs to go to a team that is rebuilding where he can get his full shot even if he screws up since the team won't be going anywhere for awhile. The guy is a butcher in the outfield and I think the Red Sox now know what the Reds knew. B)
  14. No one brought up the real reasons Wily Mo is not the answer to our right field position. HE IS A ROTTEN OUTFIELDER---PERIOD!!!!!! He cannot judge a fly ball well and cannot catch the ball consistently. He has shown no improvement in those skiills since he was signed. He certainly cannot play RF at Fenway. He has shown that beyond a shadow of a doubt like in the Red Sox home opener when he misplayed a routine fly ball off his glove for a homer. He certainly cannot play LF at YS either. He misplayed three or four balls in one game there this past September which cost the Sox the game and prevented us from paying the Yankees back with a sweep on our own on their home turf. He also has proven he is a poor hitting with men on base, especially in the clutch. In that DH on Sept 16th he left 12 runner on base that day with five strikeouts. Drew can hit better, field better, run better and throw better. He also has over a 40% OBA. That's why the Red Sox are reportedly after him. Pena should go to an AL team and be a DH on a team that is rebuilding where he can get a full chance to develop his talents without the glare of a pennant race.
  15. Tex, quit while you still have your chance. Graffanino is a reserve IF; if he were anything else clubs would be lining up to sign him. As for Pedroia, my opinion is that he is going to be a very good player for the Red Sox because he has been that everywhere he has player. He has hit, fielded, ran the bases well, shown good gap power, and has brought a real enthusiasm and energy to every team he has played on. In the 2005 College World Series, his Arizona State Coach, Pat Murphy, wore a cap that had the words "Dustin Pedroia" written on the back. Dustin was by that time playing Double A ball. That ought to tell you something about the infielder.
  16. I live in the LA area and saw Drew many times this past summer. He played 146 games and drove in 100 runs and was their best clutch hitter in the stretch drive. Drew would be a natural for the Red Sox with his OBA, clutch hitting and run producing ability. He also hits for a good average. The Dodgers lost a very key player, but many of you may not know this but they have one helluva GM in Ned Colletti. He won't wait long to replace Drew because the guy has already established himself as one of the best in the business.
  17. I consider you a friend because you are a Red Sox fan so please take this advice from a colleague. Don't step in any more horse dung with those ridiculous posts because you are becoming an embarrassment. You can do better, so do it.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  18. Schill, quick, put a sock in Tex's mouth before he embarrasses Red Sox Nation. Pedroia has to play. I'm glad someone noticed all the ropes he hit right at people that with a little luck could have made him hit about 60 points higher this season. Graff back? We went through this last year. I liked Tony, too, but there is no room for him here anymore. Besides, I never heard he could play shortstop.
  19. Now RS and 33 if we can only sign J.D.Drew to give us that fifth spot in the order to protect the other two and give them some reinforcement in the run producing department, we'd be on our way to getting our team ready for next season, especially if we can sign Matsuzaka. Then we could get Lidge to close for us, and Lugo at short and leadoff man. Oh hell, I am getting ahead of myself.
  20. ******** Schill. You are going to keep responding. We need all the sanity on this board we can get. I wonder what they are serving in Texas bars that our friend came up with such an outlandish trade suggestion. Hey, Michael Young is a helluva player, but Manny is a first rate superstar and Pedroia is going to an outstanding player for us for a long time. Hey Tex, back to the drawing board. We will go easy on you this time; next time, it's off to the woodshed. :o :o
  21. And as Jackson said, he sucked when he got that chance. Cora is a mediocre ballplayer and I will tell you this flat out Jsing. If that guy ever gets into the starting lineup for any prolonged period of time we will be sunk because he stinks.
  22. Well for all our sake let's hope he is kept as a utility man and Francona doesn't have one of his brainless ideas.
  23. Riverside----what about California. That's where I live and I can bitch about a player who the Dodgers and Guardians discarded, and who couldn't hit his hat when he was forced to start a series of games last summer when injuries struck. We can do better, or rather we could have. BTW, are you speaking as a Red Sox or Yankee fan?
