  1. Just kidding my friend. Hey I may be 66 but I still have something left. What was it that Redd Foxx used to say---"I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was." On a more germaine subject, Red Sox fans pay poo poo the Yankees signing Pettitte but I for one think it was a pretty damn good move. The guy may not be the Pettitte of 1999 but he can still go out there and compete, eat up innings and win his share of the games. Now, more than ever, the Red Sox have got to get Matsuzaka and a closer or we'll be underdogs again. Then I might need some viagra.
  2. Schill, now that would help. All in good fun. Better than what our friend Yaz suggested. Hey, a little humor goes a long way. Thanks.
  3. I have a great comeback but you are probably a Red Sox fan so I won't go threre. You could have offered me something that would help, though.
  4. Kilo, I wouldn't. Pena isn't going to play unless someone gets hurt and even then will be a disaster in the outfield while Delcarmen got hammered just about every time he took the mount after the All Star Break. What whether you're right or I'm right we are going to need a pitcher who can end games. I don't want to go through what we saw in 2003 when we lost so many early season games because of that stupid and ineffective closer by committee fiasco. Who can we get and what will it cost us? We should have a decent enough package to deal as long as Ellsbury, Bucholz and Bard are not part of it.
  5. Julio, the Bonds deal worked the way it should. No one except Giants fans really want him now to break the record. In San Fran it will be a big event and a popular one. Where else would that reaction occur? Certainly not at Fenway, and certainly not at Dodger Stadium. :D :D
  6. Moody? Hell, you will be a sunshine Superman compared to me if we don't sign Matsuzaka and fail to get a closer. The aura of signing Drew and Lugo might start fading away awfully fast. It also looks like Gagne is a goner as far as our team is concerned.
  7. Jackson, Boros doesn't give a crap about what might be best for his clients; to him it is always money and he once hinted at that. If Texas is throwing around the cash it is going to be Texas. Remember, Tom Hicks once went $252 mil for A-Rod. I still say the Nationals are our best choice. They have Cordero and he's available from all reports. We give them a package consisting of WMP (who their GM likes) and maybe Delcarmen and another mid-level prospect. If we don't address this item soon we will be looking at that friggin' closer by committe BS that sunk us in 2003.
  8. My friends Matsuzaka is not coming cheap. The Meche deal cinched that for sure. Still, we had better sign the guy as soon as possible, and, please, don't anyone tell me is will get done for sure. I've seen our club blow things before---Damon, anyone? No, when I hear Daisuke is inked then I will be more than willing to join you in a cheerful swig. Not one second sooner. I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed.:
  9. Right Jackson---and all us Red Sox fans should take heed of that. We keep talking about our young players and then we see a completely veteran team on the field. It took Youk until 27 to make the starting lineup and that is why they have to clear the field for Dustin Pedroia to make it this year, and get ready for Jacoby Ellsbury in 2008, unless he tears up Triple AAA in '07 and forces his way up. As for our pitchers, we have had little more luck there, both good and bad. Papelbon has been a sensation, Lester was going well until he was diagnosed with lymphoma and that probably inhibitied him from doing even better this past season. Hansen and Delcarmen? Well the jury is still out on them. I think Hansen will eventually become a servicable reliever for us. MDC? I didn't like what I saw from him last season.
  10. I don't know so many of the people here wanted Dotel in the first place. The guy is a volcano ready to blow at any time, and if memory serves me right he stunk to high heaven when he was a closer for the A's. We can do better than Dotel. Then, again, I have heard that Gagne may go to Texas or Cleveland. I still think a trade for Cordero would be our best bet. We now have the chips to make such a trade. Drew's signing has made Pena expendable and the signing of Kiwajima (sic) might make Delcarmen or Gabbard expendable as well. One thing the Red Sox must never never do again is go with this bullpen by committe ******** that they tried in 2003. It cost us the AL East that year.
  11. Some of these guys are here just to cause mischief; there might be a couple who really want to join us. I will answer none of their posts anymore unless it deals with the Red Sox or related topics.
  12. J.D. The six contestants was pure BS; we were pulling each other's legs. The Newlywed game has four couples vieing for a few prizes and it's a great experience. The money I won was on another show and if you're interested I will tell you. However, I would rather talk about the Red Sox, or Dodgers, if that be your choice. Please, I want to discuss baseball. None of this other crap.
  13. Drew Lugo---Linda was pulling my leg and I was pulling hers. And I said six contenstants; don't try and make like a finished dead last, just next to. My wife and I were on the Newlywed Game in December, 1970 (aired Jan. 15, 1971). We won!
  14. See how wrong you are. I didn't finish fourth; I finished fifth. BTW, my favorite memory of any TV stunt was when MY Linda and I were on the Newlywed Game 36 years ago this month. We had a hell of a time and I was surprised my wife was so animated. I had never seen her so full of energy; she was always impressing me as a very quiet Mid-Western type Anglo-Saxon girl that I so fell in love with. However, I didn't care for Bon Ewbanks the host very much. He was really full of himself, thought the world revolved around him. Plus I got docked five points for "cheating". Well, using my hands to gesture, an illegal move. Hey, they should have known Italians do those things. Still, a great experience. I'll let you guess how we did there. :D :D :D
  15. PNU, speaking only for myself, welcome aboard. Again, only speaking for myself, I think this is one helluva Red Sox website and even though our colleague Ez may disagree we have our differences here but it never dissolves into personal name calling and insults to family members. Again, the Dodgers are my second team, but I have always followed the rivalry of your team and the Dodgers since I was a kid in Queens, and you can bet we will be having some neat exchanges when our two teams tangle next season. As for being gay, I don't know if you are kidding or not, but we don't do the gay bashing, or racist nonsense here. You will feel right at home, though I guess you aren't feeling too swift now that Jason Schmidt has gone over to the enemy. Have a good time here. :D :D :D :D
  16. Yaz, even though you are spot on right, at least at this moment, why rain on Ez's parade, or mine for that matter. Let us dream of such a matchup. It will be 91 years next season since the two teams met in a World Series and it would be hoot to see them tangle again-------a hoot, that is, as long as the team wearing the red takes the cake. :D :D
  17. For a Red Sox fan you sure seem to be carrying a torch for the Dodgers. Yes, Neddy used some of the money for a good purpose----Jason Schmidt. Hell of a pitcher. But if you think Louie Louie is going to do a better job for you than Drew did you had better put that crack pipe down pronto. And let me ask you a question point blank. It's the 2007 World Series and the Dodgers are playing the Red Sox. Who do you root for? You don't have to question where I stand but let me know where you do---just for the hell of it.
