  1. Use your imagination for other things Mr Crunchy because it is not your imagination. You bet Taverez was terrific for us. Best starter? Arguable, but solid nevertheless, and I don't want him shuffled around and played like a fiddle. He should be given every chance to stay in the rotation. He knows how to win and he loves playing for the Red Sox and their fans. He told me so. I went down to talk to him before that Sept. 15 game with the Yankees was rained out. The guy is full of fight and spirit. I became an instant fan of his. Give him his due. :D :D
  2. Is it possible that Theo finally learned that we cannot win anything taking on other team's refuse? I mean between Burns, Corey, Johnson and Snyder, Epstein reached a new low in stupidity and ineptness. Now, hopefully, he will get busy and do the right thing for our team. I have decided to cut him a little slack now and see if he can regain some of the confidence we had in him in 2004 before he had a brain shock.
  3. Thanks Riverside---and forgive my absence from this great board. Been concentrating on Dirt Dogs where there is plenty of action going on with our front office's plans this coming winter. Doesn't sound so earth shaking to me, though. Machado and Huckaby were nothing to write home about and Pena has washed out in Oakland, Detroit, New York and God knows where else. Hopefully he will find a place to hang his hat. Just glad it will not be in Boston. I know he is a local kid but, let's face it, taking on other team's rejects didn't work for us this year unless you consider Jason Johnson, Kyle Snyder and some of the other stiffs we picked up successful players. As for Corey and Burns, they are right where they belong in my opinion-----in the minors.:harhar: :harhar: :harhar: :harhar:
  4. Tomorrow I will be rooting for the Dodgers like they were the Red Sox. I have really enjoyed getting finally to rooting for them after 49 years of believing that I despised them for leaving Brooklyn. I want them to win the NL and take care of the Yankees in the Series. Of course, next year I would like to see the Red Sox and Dodgers play in it and see the Red Sox take them in five.
  5. Jsing, if you are hinting that you want Gonzales back you have been sniffing something not good for you. The guys has no discipline at the plate and except for one hot streak was utterly useless to us at bat. He swings at bad pitches, hits pathetically in the clutch, and has no speed whatsoever to help us in that area. He has to go. We resign him and that will tell me this team is going to be a waste in the offensive department again next year. Remember, had we not signed him he would not have played this year. He got ZERO other offers. I wonder why.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
  6. Yank Hater, our friend Jsing is like so many other posters here and on other boards. They simply do not think that Pedroia is a shortstop. Of course, the Red Sox thought that about David Eckstein, too, and all I remember is that he became a pretty good one for the Angels and helped lead them to a WS Title in 2002 and is leading the Cardinals in the Playoffs this year. I know Loretta personally and this guy is a class act. He would even be better next year. Like you I would love to see him back at 2B and give Dustin a chance to prove he can play SS,. We need every bat we can get in that lineup next year.
  7. Gentlemen, this still could work out well for us next year. If the FO goes out and signs a top notch pitcher like Jason Schmidt and trades for one of the better set-up men in baseball, Arroyo's loss will not hurt all that much. I have become convinced that Wily Mo Pena could become a real asset for our team. For a guy with tremendous power, he has become also a good hitter for average and driving in runs. My only gripe is that Francona should be playing this guy every damn game. Then, again, I always have gripes with our esteemed manager because it seems everything he does makes Red Sox fans gripe.
  8. Well I can tell you this Riverside, Kotteras didn't exactly tear up his league either. All this talk about our great farm system and we have to search the waiver list for bums to fill out our rotation. Jarvis is the latest stiff to grace our staff and he sucks to high heaven just like Johnson, Snyder and Corey have. I'll tell you this: Either Epstein gets his s*** together this fall or Henry has to show him the door. Either that or all of us get a two cigarettes and two blindfolds and take action ourselves against those two boobs.
  9. Riverside, except for the record the stats don't look all that bad. All I know is that I have heard for the last two years what a revived farm system we have and I'm still waiting to see some of these phenoms. We know about Youk and Paps and they certainly past muster, but Hansen has been bust so far and it seems every time Delcarmen with his great stuff goes into a game he get hammered. I just hope we can play out the rest of the season, get us some wins and finish with a winning record.
  10. Jackson and 700, I think the horses have left the barn. I would like some sort of miracle but with our team not hitting and our pitching is disarray I can only hope we have enough pride and mettle to cause some other teams as much trouble as they can. Realistically, if we can finish a dozen games over 500 I would be satisfield. All I can add to that is that Theo Epstein has his work cut out for him this off season, and he has one such season to make up for two rotten ones the past two off seasons. If he doesn't straighten out the Red Sox Ship of State he ought to be sent packing on a one way trip to Zanzibar.
  11. What I meant Crunch was that you don't put retirees into the unemployed category, do you? I'm getting my state retirement check every month and another on the interest of my tax shelter. Some might say I'm on a sort of dole, but I worked for over 40 years. Anyway, I read that other post of yours and had to comment.
  12. Seems I'm one of the few posters here and on other Red Sox boards who would like Barry Zito, so apparently you guys know more about that guy than I do. I do know more about Jason Schmidt than the rest of you, though, since I live in California and have seen him pitch against the Dodgers. This guy is a real horse and I think he should be first on the Red Sox wish list this coming free agent season. BTW Crunch, you don't seem to have much use for the unemployed. I hope that doesn't translate into retireees, which I am. Good win last night for us.
  13. Well Jsing, it looks like I'm again outvoted on this and another site I post on. The Red Sox have not played Dustin at short since the Angels series so I guess they agree with the majority of you. Then sign Lugo for two seasons because I do not want any weak bats in the lineup. In the heavy hitting American League no team can afford to give up any outs especially when their pitching "MIGHT" be a problem. We still don't know what the FO is going to do there in the off season.
  14. Riverside, I can respect your take on Pedroia since you've seen him more than I have. You have mentioned serviceable shortstop. Well, that sits fine with me. I do not want to have another weak hitting SS in our lineup. I think this season proves that we need every bat we can get in the lineup. If Pedroia is going to play second and we are going to let Loretta walk ( a bad mistake if you ask me), at least sign a shortstop who can hit well.
  15. It is a no-brainer if the Mets play the Yankees in the WS who we Red Sox fans root for. Maybe the Mets can make amends for their less than stellar performance in the last Subway Series. Interesting about that. That was the last year the Mets were my favorite team; I had gone to Fenway late that 2000 season and by the next spring the Red Sox had become my main team, so much so that I pretty much deserted the Mets on the fly. This year I am following the Dodgers f or the first time since they left Brooklyn.
  16. Well Jsing, I can tell by your post that you are in an irritable mood and are on the warpath again. Look, I am a little taken back by the fact that we couldn't get a deal with the Dodgers for Wells and that being Andy LaRoche, but I think Theo asked for more than just one player and if he did then he overpriced himself out. As it is, the Dodgers have Wilson Betemit playing third and there is no room for Andy, even though he hit 319 when called up to Triple A. The Dodgers are either going to have to trade WB, move him to another position or trade AL. The Red Sox should be ready to offer a good deal for LaRoche who I think could be a good 25-30 homer man and an excellent 3Bman for the Red Sox if we could get him.
  17. Schill, that stands tall with me. I think Wells is a class guy. He pitched well for the Red Sox. I wish the Dodgers could have gotten him. Hopefully he will not pitch in that upcoming series so I don't have to root against him. I only hope the catcher we got for him turns out to be a solid player.
  18. jackson, I'm hoping that the team braces itself and tries to close out the season on a high note. I am going to New York for that series in two weeks. I have tickets for the three regularly scheduled games, but not for the make-up game. Hopefully, I can see a couple of Red Sox wins. I would hate to see them mail it in. There is a thing called pride and I have always believed the Red Sox had plenty of it. I hope I am not wrong.
  19. There are two schools of thought there. One is to rebuild from the ground up, but I say blend a few new faces with the hard core veterans and get the pitching we need to contend. It can and must be done. Don't get down on Pedroia too quickly. I still say that this kid is going to be one solid ballplayer for us. Pitching is what we need, and if Pena can develop further into the No. 3 power hitter for us we could be in good shape. I don't ever recall a team getting smashed two years in a row with the injuries we've had. The FO does its job and we can give it to the American League back in kind within a season.
  20. Crespo, read back on this post from start to finish. Easy to see we really got carried away back in early July. I wonder what the suicide watch would have been had we known what goes going to transpire in August. As I told 700, if you have a NL team that is in contention you might start following them a little more closely. Otherwise, keep the faith until next spring. I just have to believe the Red Sox FO is going to get some religion and try to rectify the blundering errors they've made the past two off seasons. We can hope anyway.
