  1. lol spazz. I'm talking about the fact that the Bus has a ball in his mouth or at least looks like he's trying to get it in his mouth I think that probably goes both ways. Myself though I grew up a Yankees fan in the late 80s and early 90s when they lost 100 games every year it seemed like. I dont know about the 86 year drought but I can't crap on the Sox when my team was not even up to AAA level during that time. All you have ot know is that during one season, our leading HR guy was Mel Hall who blasted all of 15 HRs that year.
  2. yeah but Loretta and Rent are nowhere that far apart in terms of numbers. It's an interesting stat, just a little hard for me to accept. Any other interesting WARPs out there? like good WARPs on bad teams and vice versa.
  3. I'm not sure which I'm more impressed over. The fact that someone sat there and thought this up or the fact that you took the time out to explain it. In other words, he's better than average in his position according to the stats categories used by WARP. Question, can a player who plays 50 games have a better WARP than someone who plays 160 games?
  4. haha Interesting post considering your avatar I think most knowledgable Yankee fans detest the craphole that is our FO structure with the noodleheads in Tampa who never played the game running the show for the last 4 years giving us such great signings like Jaret Wright amongst other failures. With Cashman FINALLY having somewhat of a voice in the decisions this year, we have had good smart signings. With the exception of Johnny Damon, all of them were decently priced also IMO. One sign that I knew Cashman was havign a voice in things, we werent the morons that signed Piazza. Hopefully it continues.
  5. But the stat says Wins Above Replacement player. :dunno:
  6. I think we can mutually agree both our FO sux donkey balls sometimes.
  7. I can't even prepare a proper reply to this since this is the first time I've ever heard of WARP. My only question is who was Loretta's Replacement and who was Renteria's? Also if Lorettas replaceemnt played a lot more games than rent's, does that affect it?
  8. After OPS, I have no clue what the other new formulas mean
  9. no I'm not sayin that at all. It's just that certain players have a problem with being able to stay on the field. Most of them don't suddenly turn the page on that trend in their mid 30's.
  10. Well then I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this. You trust stats from a computer, I trust scouting reports. ok. I guess I'm too old fashioned for this debate. You have all the computer generated metric formula stats. I can only rely on my eyes and what I read from scouting reports.
  11. Rent stays on the field. I'd rather have someone playing whose AVERAGES are lower than the guy sitting on the bench or on the DL.
  12. you're looking at averages. How many ABs does Loretta average per season? Too many times people start throwing out averages because of the limited time someone plays and forgets that no matter how good their average is, they have to play on the field. Actualy playing time to me is more important than any other stat. I dont care if a guy averages 1 hr per 5 AB if he has only had 10 ABs in 50 games.
  13. They also believed Renteria would thrive in Beantown
  14. Some people respond better to the fishbowl treatment than others. There are those who thrive in it, and there are those who shrivel up in it
  15. Outside of BA, Renteria pretty much kills Loretta in every other offensive stat. Plus Renteria doesnt get hurt and has over 1,000 ABs than Loretta
  16. Jesus is a Yankee
  17. People who do well in other markets have floundered in the Boston/NY scene.
  18. let Coco play one full year in Boston before you make that assessment
  19. great as if there werent enough reasons for me to dislike the red Sox, now they go about signing more Taiwanese people
  20. Sorry I dont buy into the rating fielders by some statistic. There's no way to measure what you see in person at how they approach a flyball, or how they play the ball off the wall. And what I see in Matsui as well as read from scouting reports is exactly what I said in my previous post. Average arm, good judgment on flyballs, plays balls well off the wall, quick release. I doubt that number is true, whatever the case it has no bearing on what I said about RF being a sandbox. I am completely disregarding your argument here because you're basing it on some formula that some stats geek made up in his basement or programmed his computer to do. Thats not anything against you, I just think Defensive metrics or whatever is complete BS. a cardboard box is better than nothing when its cold outside. Having a nice warm house is SUPERIOR to nothing.
  21. You would be the first person I've heard say that about Matsui's fielding skills. He has an average arm but makes up for it with good footwork, excellent jump on flyballs and quick release. That's the scouting report most will give you on Matsui. You're selling him much too short than acceptable in a Sox-Yank debate. Yankee Stadium RF is about the size of my living room, I don't worry too much about Sheff's speed out there. He can cover it perfectly fine. Over anyone's? Are you 100% sure aobut this? Are you just saying this because you like them as Sox players and have developed a loyalty to them (though I can't see how you can develop loyalty for Gonzales or Lowell yet), or you really mean that their defensive skills are that good. I dont want to go digging up names, but I'm pretty sure the Lowell-Gonzalez combo isn't the best in MLB. It's better, I dont think it's superior.
  22. At least you know he wont f*ck the front office. They're not young enough for him
  23. great so now the Yankees can sign him to a 3 year $45 million deal when he becomes a FA and the Sox FO can say they didnt want to overpay Beckett. He will then start his first season with the Yanks lights out before succumbing to blisters in July and go on to pitch 200 more innings total for the remainder of his contract with the Yankees.
  24. good signing by the jays. Molina hhas a solid bat and is great behind the plate.
  25. You got a good point there, but we've seen what crappy offenses can do to pithcers with terrific ERAs (Clemens '05). As for Miguel, its gonna be tough for him to get his numbers this year IMO. He has no tablesetters and no protection.
