    His WAR is 1.8 Listen, mookie is a great player but not a 300 Million dollar player. Just because 2 other teams gave out stupid contracts ( harper and machado) it doesn't mean mookie should get the same. If another team wants to blow the bank and overpay for mookie than power to them.

    Harper got that deal cause the Phillies were desperate and overpaid for him. I'd rather not pay Betts over 300 MIl because of the Phillies stupidity

    I think most of you are forgetting that a lot of Betts value is based on his legs ( speed). Once that goes his value will drop a lot. Legs are always the first thing to go and usually go around 30.

    If Betts finishes the year let's say around 850 OPS and then next year about 800 OPS he is going to regret not taking that 200 MIL offer from the Sox as his stock will go down significantly.

    I find the best way to evaluate a player is to take away his worst season and best season and take the avg of the rest. If we do that to Betts he's still good but hes not 300 MIL good. Just because you have won 1 MVP that's not a reason to throw 300 at a guy. I mean look at bryce harper. You take away trouts worst and best year and he's practically the same player. Now that's someone I'd throw over 300 MIL for.

    For the first 3 years to be worth 150 Million he would have to have 3 season of over 10 WAR and even that might not be enough.

    I'd take 2-3 more seasons of over 900 ops but NOT at 300 MIl. This is where we are having an argument. It's not about his actual production but what he is most likely to be seeking once he hits the open market. And hes not worth a 300 million contract.

    Meh, that's just a short term phase. If the Phillies keep winning games that will put more fans in the seats. If the Phillies start to suck in the next few years the attendance will drop again whether or not harper is there.

    I'm a big mookie fan. I have multiple jerseys of him but I just dont see him as a 300 Mil player in the long haul

    Betts is not worth 300 million. And please dont bring up harper as that's the Phillies fault for giving him that stupid contract. I wouldn't give Betts anymore than 250. Even that I'd be stretching it. I'm sorry but in order to give out a 300 million deal you best be producing close to a 10 War every year. A lot of Betts value is also his speed, which is the first thing to go when a player ages. He wont be as productive once he hits 30 with his legs.
