  1. true but never underestimate omar's desire to compete with the yankees in terms of getting high profile players with a budget that is vastly superior to what he was used to in montreal.
  2. btw, i don't think miami is overrated, but they aren't underrated either. they have a good team and are deep with guys used to being option #1 or #2 on offense (remind anyone of a certain laker team a couple of years ago) and it will be interesting to see if they can put their egos aside and win as a team...even if it means their personal stats take a hit. that being said, i'd rather see them win it all over detroit, who i still think is overrated, but just know how to play together as a TEAM.
  3. lol yeah when he feels like it or when someone pisses him off and has to motivate himself to prove a point. im still bitter his fat ass only got in shape last year to try and show the lakers they were making a mistake by trading him instead of the prima dona cancer that is kobe. now that he got his contract extention he can go back to being fat and taking off plays. maybe its just me, but most dominating player in the league = someone who can singlehandedly win a game by themselves, which he hasn't been able to do since he was in his prime, he's just too prideful to realize it... you take d. wade off that team and no way they make the playoffs.
  4. you know, at first my gut reaction was the same, but i'd be willing to listen if the asking price was too attractive to pass up. assuming of course we get a guy like erstad to play first in case he's a bust, i'd seriously take a look at it if philly was to pay for most of his salary.
  5. i smell ********...more likely its just some disgruntled workers who got embarrassed and suprised when he caught them helping themselves to his pool. so to get back at him, they concocted this whole bs story of him attacking them w/a machete. im not from venezuela, but i hope their judicial system is able to sort this mess out distinguish truth from lies.
  6. I can live with this deal. No big names coming in exchange for Manny, but talent-wise we should be set. Would we still aquire a free agent on top of this, or would free agent = resigning Damon?
  7. um, if this was a salary dump (which it isn't) they why take cameron at all? there is little chance konerko will realistically land in boston, burnett is an overrated unnecessary risk that will cost too much, and giles is marginally better, but not worth backing up the truck and overpaying. Erstad can play multiple gold glove caliber positions and glaus still has plenty of power and might benefit going back to the AL. I'd rather keep Manny unless someone was seriously willing to overpay for him.
  8. well, i wouldn't say every statistic...especially the biggest one that matters...relax, im sure santana well get his cy young(s) before his time is up...
  9. if the mets want manny bad enough (and we know how impulsive omar is) they're gonna have to pay to get him, even if that included either a david wright or carlos beltran. manny still has many more years ahead of him and is not like an aging bonds that is on the tail end of his career. it just ends up being a waiting game to see how desperate ny gets.
  10. debatable choice - yes justifiable choice - yes like previously mentioned, he was the ace on the AL West champs and had an otherwise great year despite suffering through injuries. personally, if halladay not gotten hurt, my money would have been him for cy young, but these things happen. nowhere does 21-8 = 16-7, which sadly is one of the main things that is looked at for cy-young consideration.
  11. great! thats all we need...(Damon + Cameron) = mulitple outfielders without power... I'm not buyin it, face it, Met fans are just praying for someone to take a HUGE chance on Cameron and exchange their unhappy outfielder for our unhappy outfielder and get an instant all-star in Manny for what amounts to a handful of magic beans... No David Wright, No deal! NEXT!
  12. he may get screwed like keyshawn did, but SOMEONE is gonna pick this guy up next year. i hope it was worth it philly! hahahahaha --->(disgruntled niner fan)
  13. mmm, i think i'd pick glaus and erstad. glaus can fill in at 3rd/dh and has power. erstad can play gold glove caliber CF & 1B and while isnt a power hitter, he's a good team guy that can hit for average. then include santana, in the rotation...i think is worth giving up a malcontent with a fat contract who's heading into the latter part of his career. I may be a little more biased though having gone to my share of angel games and seeing those players mentioned play in person. Not too familiar with Huff/Cameron.
  14. as for manny, i hear the angels want to see if they can lure konerko and keep their young prospects, but will consider him as a complicated option if konerko falls through. though with Kotchman and Kendry Morales at 1B, I wouldn't go after him.
  15. well i just read in the LA TIMES a couple of days ago, Theo was contacted from a 3rd party on behalf of the Dodgers and he told them they would need to wait for about a week before he considered whether or not he would seriously consider it. Personally, I can't believe McCrook would shell out the asking price, especially since it seems like Tommy is the puppetmaster trying to bring in his own guys (Hershiser & Valentine). They would have preferred to have hired him by the weekend in time for the gm meetings next week.
  16. I doubt Towers will come over from S.D., he has alot more experience now as a gm than when he was promoted as a scout by Lucchino in San Diego, and I doubt he's willing to have him constantly look over his shoulder and question his moves. Hunsiker might be good, but he butted heads with owner drayton mcclane so I don't think he'll mesh well with Lucchino either.
  17. what complete bs! f***ing Lucchino can't get out of the way from his own goddamn ego. He never won s*** in San Diego, came to Boston, won a WS, and now he's the s***. The only reason he changed his mine was he was tired of the bs involved in dealing with Lucchino's power trip. BTW, you do not want depo, I wouldnt wish that laptop tinkering, pencil pushing beane wannabe on anyone, not even yankee fan. he may have been the sacraficial lamb for the worst dodger season in over a decade, and 3 weeks in the search for a new manager isnt ideal timing, but hell, better late than never!
  18. i'd be shocked if hershiser wasnt with the organization in some capacity next season. Not enough experience for GM (though I'm sure he really prefers that over managing) or managing for that matter. That said, if they can lure Hart to LA to groom Hershiser (as asst. gm) to take over, i'd be cool with that. Not impressed with Bobby V. (though Lasorda loves him).
  19. its like i woke up and its christmas day!!! aside from how bad this makes management look by firing him 3 weeks into looking for another manager, i'd still take it as better late than never. depo was in WAY over his head and his moneyball philosophy just wasnt going to mesh here in LA. The only reason Mccrook hired him was because he thought he might save more $$$ and get the same production on the field...which obviously wasnt there this season.
  20. LOL i heard that too...
  21. mlb is more interested in making sure it can get $$ by having blimp out rather than letting home team get any kind of advantage
  22. I'm not saying the umps are giving the games to chicago, but it helps when your players get extra opportunities to get the job done. I still think FOX is overplaying the whole 1917 feel good story angle much like last year with Boston. Is it too much to ask for a little neutrality as a national network. f***! You'd think you were watching WGN or TBS. And let me preface my earlier rants by saying YES! I am still bitter and am a sore loser. Props to Chicago for getting the job done. I didn't think they would....
  23. I couldn't have agreed more...I'll give Chicago their due, but it helps when ALL of the breaks seem to go their way.
  24. In a sense...yes, or at least not have that rule be the deciding factor for determining the outcome in a close game. As far as being happy about it, dude the only thing I'm happy about is they are still undefeated. Period. I'm not impressed with the way they have been playing all season, or at least after they rolled up Arkansas. They are capable of playing much, much better than that and have relied on their offense and their reputation to come back in games they had no business being down in. Their defense has a long way to go to get back into nat'l champ. shape. And no, I'm not impressed with beating Washington. I would have been more impressed if they would have held them to under 10 points. As for Va Tech & Texas...well we beat Va. Tech head to head, so I'm not too worried about them. Texas is LOOKING great, and while Texas Tech was one of the better tests they've had all year, I still am not impressed with their strength of schedule.
  25. It happens ALL THE TIME in short yardage situations when a team is 3rd or 4th and inches and a quarterback sneak is called or when the runningback tries to leap over the pile. Just because you cant see what happens underneath or with bodies flying everywhere doesn't mean it doesnt happen. Furthermore, I called it a technicality because while it is mentioned in the rulebook, it is seldom if ever called. As far as the job Petey did coaching, last I checked he doesn't actually suit up and play offense or defense. I can be objective and agree that our defense stinks, and injuries are not an excuse. Lets be honest, if our defense wasn't a sieve against the ND offense, this game isn't as close as it was in the end. But props to the ND for making the plays they needed to...they just didn't make enough of them in the end. You stop Leinart on 4th and 9, and the "pushing" play never happens. As far as ND playing over their heads...ahahah you're gonna tell me a team that has the talent of USC barely escapes against a ND team that up until this early this year didn't scare anyone is NOT playing over their heads?? Was SC outplayed? In many ways yes, but then suscribe to that rationale, then you also acknowledge SC could have played much better...Given the current win streak and success USC has enjoyed in his tenure, and the obvious advantage of playing at home, it isn't hard to imagine ND getting pumped up to try and knock off the #1 team in the nation. Like much of the past 2 seasons, USC has had a target on their back and took the 'best' shot from every team they played and still came out on top. Love 'em or hate 'em you gotta give it to them. And as much as I have always HATED ND, I respect them and the job Charlie has done with what he has on the roster. It should be a great rivalry instead of the boring asskickings ND was familiar with.
