  1. Let me preface this by saying this is pure conjecture, but just wanted to know other opinions on this topic. Given how infamously impatient and impulsive Steinbrenner is, any chance the ultimate person who takes responsibility for this season where their payroll > 200 mil., Cashman gets what he knew was coming eventually and gets broken off by the boss? I mean this is the same guy to ran out Bob Watson after Watson couldn't put up with Steinbrenner's BS anymore. No way does Torre get let go, not after signing that huge extension. And while I'm not a Torre apologist, its not like he was the one who signed/traded for a team with all these players on the wrong side of 30. I have nothing personal against Cashman, (other than being in the fortunate position of being a rich kid in the candy store year after year and operating with a close to an infinite budget) but the older players he brought in look like a shadow of themselves and the younger players brought in (with the exception of A-Rod) have been stealing money from the yankees. C'mon, did he even evalute these guys before bringing them in and signing them or did he just look at highlight clips from their less than stellar careers?
  2. Is it a slump if he's been in it for the entire season? j/k, honestly with what he has been able to contribute the past couple of seasons, I'm ok for giving a guy a pass for ONE off year. But short of using him as a dh I can't really see the advantage of keeping him around, especially if there is a chance he could be traded to address a need as the sox get ready for that stretch run for the division title. The sole upside to his game is his bat, which makes up for the rest of his mediocre to sub-mediocre defense & speed. I'm not trying to hate on the guy, but you gotta call a spade a spade here. Since he wasn't dealt before the deadline, if there is room on roster, then yeah, keep him (better him than K-Horn), you never know if the situation arises when you need him in the lineup, but don't try to justify we should keep him b/c we need another cheerleader/media whore you has never seen a mic didn't have a quote for. Sometimes those things have a way of backfiring...just like the whole shots of alcohol fiasco prior to each game he let slip last year. As far as Renteria goes, I for one would have probably preferred to keep Cabrera after what he was able to give us after the trade last year and I thought he was pretty clutch in the playoffs. Despite his career numbers, I wasn't impressed w/Renteria. I mean c'mon, its not like St. Louis went out of its way to keep him, especially for what he was asking. If you ask me, St. Louis is better off with Eckstein than with Renteria (and I'm pretty sure for less money.).
  3. Ty! Glad To Be Here
  4. LOL that may be true, but logic stands you will as well. Short of RJ and KB waking up 10 yrs younger...you guys are screwed. Your offense + Mariano will keep you in more games than you would otherwise lose outright, but right about now, the smart move is to stockpile the farm with realistic future major leagueres (aka Jeter/B. Williams, etc.) and unload dead weight.
