Ramirez Asks For Trade (merged)
eZ_d0eS_iT replied to Cityofchampions33's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
who could the dodger actually think we'd be willing to take in return? I sure as hell don't want D.L. Drew and their best minor leaguers are supposedly untouchable. As a Dodger fan I'd love to have Manny here in LA, but as an even bigger BoSox fan, outside of Bradley or Kent, I am not interested... -
i actually like loretta providing he is completely healthy. when he went out of the lineup injured, san diego took a real dive. he can't possibly be worse than anything else we have.

Renteria officially on the Trading Block
eZ_d0eS_iT replied to riverside sluggers's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
you're right, but to your point, i think O-Cab was a better fit in his half season with Boston than Rent was in his full season, and I think he would have been cheaper to resign instead of going after the higher priced former all-star who also had a bad playoff performance the year they were swept by Boston. -

short of getting O-Cab back (which isnt gonna happen) i wouldn't trade renteria at all. I actually preferred resigning Cabrera in the first place since he did nothing but contribute when he was here and fit in great. I know Red Sox brass were thinking of Rents all-star numbers when they pursued him instead, but I am willing to give him another shot and keep him unless we are completely overwhelmed with a trade offer. -
I agree completely. From what I've read on FSN, the A's need offense. The latest deal that is rumored to be taking place by the end of this week possibly Zito for Bradley either straight up or a prospect or 2. The thinking is that with Esteban Loaiza, Zito is expendable in a free agent year. Their top need is OF help w/power. They like Bradley's age and talent, but are a little hesitant about his baggage and injury problems. But since he is in his walk year as well, its not too much of a risk for them either. Sorry Sox fans, but unless we get an extra bat from dealing Manny, then flipping him to Oakland, there is NO WAY we are getting Zito.

personally from what i saw of kotchman this year, i think this guy could be a steal. the only problem previously mentioned is you can't keep both him and glaus...has glaus even played 1B before?
-
Ok, now its official: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5143766 courtesy of FSN...

well he did get us (sox) as close as we've been to WS prior to last year. aside from the whole pedro fiasco, i am really indifferent about him as a manager.
-
Just heard breaking report from XTRA Sports, LA, it is expected the Dodgers will announce the hiring of Grady Little as their next manager tonight. He is expected to be formerly introduced to the media this Friday, December 9th. I honestly am so numb as a Dodger fan after the last year and a half I don't know how I feel about this move. :thumbdown As of 3:45p PST Nothin on FSN or ESPN to confirm or deny.

I honestly have no clue where Nomar might end up, locally, there is talk either the dodgers or angels might take a shot and sign him to a short term, incentive laden contract, but without a guarantee of a starting job - making him earn it in the spring. For pure nostalgia, I'd love to see him play 2nd w/the sox, but I think that bridge was burned long ago. And I may be wrong about this, but Lucchino doesn't strike me as the forgive & forget type. After his performance once he came back from injury last year, I feel comfortable with him wanting to prove all the critics wrong about him being washed up. I still think injuries aside, he's still primed for a breakout year that could lead to one last final lucrative deal.

Nomar's agent contacts Yankees

the outfield is not the same as the infield. *if he's completely healthy, outside of his arm strength, he certainly has the power to play CF. I seriously doubt he'd use the sidearm motion to throw from the outfield. And as far as his suspect arm, their seems to be another high-priced FA CF with a wet noodle for an arm, represented by boras who will command an obscene amount of $$$ for his client...hmm, who can that be? -

even if it was glaus, erstad and prospects, i still am not sure its enough, unless, the angels throw in some of their top tier prospects like kendry morales who might be mlb ready in a year or so, that way it restocks our minor leagues to replace the kids we traded to florida. that being said...in a vacuum, its still hard to imagine a player of his caliber going for anything less than a proven all-star in return. -
I don't know how I feel about FSU clinching BCS berth. I mean they 'earned' it I guess, but a 4 loss team getting a BCS bowl bid over 1 loss Oregon? I know Oregon isn't as flashy or high profile as other teams, but I'm still not happy with overall BCS system.
-
thank you. my point exactly. don't get me wrong, i'm glad LA finally did something during this seemingly busy offseason, but i think the money could have been better spent addressing more critical needs.

Earlier I had written in another local thread Leinart & Bush + UCLA defense = Trojan win 'SC - 47 UCLA - 28 WOW! I obviously gave UCLA too much credit, maybe the rest of the PAC-10 really does suck that bad? But its helluva of alot better than the Little 12 conference. Texas v. Colorado!?!? what a f***in joke, might as well have had a high school team out there. s***, maybe UC Davis would have given them a better game! I am really impressed most of all with the defense stepping up and not allowing a TD for 90% of the game, which incidentally didn't happen until most of the USC first stringers were out of the game while UCLA was still playing their first stringers until the very end... My prediction for Texas v. USC: Texas 28 USC 35

Well thats certainly what LA needed...another SS, courtesy of FSN's Ken Rosenthal. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5137486 I mean nevermind the glaring black holes at 3rd, 1st, OF, bullpen and starting rotation, especially assuming Weaver isn't being brought back. :dunno: I was willing to give Colletti a chance, but after missing out on the annual Florida fire-sale, its now December, still no manager, and worse is no one in his right mind wants to manage the team or have anything to do with McCrook. Pathetic.

true. on all accounts, but can you blame us, we've been spoiled for a long time and I (can't speak for other fans) have a hard time accepting mediocrity and is not in denial about the state of my teams. Unlike the other sheep out here who blindly continue to go to chavez latrine and watch minor leaguers and head cases, I refuse to give my money to a team that turns its back on its fans and I will remain critical and boycott said teams until changes are made.

ROFL! First off, I'm not a Clipper hater, just not a fan. My motto has always been to each their own. But after all the Laker bashing (believe me I understand given this is a RED SOX forum there are a lot of bitter Celtic and other East Coast teams with grudges) I felt I had to take up for my team. Second of all, I'm not the biggest or most passionate basketball fan, in fact, thats why I joined a BASEBALL forum in the first place...but I digress, I have no problem admitting the team is going through a tough transition and most nights suck, but I have faith within a year or 2 max, we will turn it around. We have always managed to turn it around. In the meantime, I have every right to be as critical of front office blunders, coaching mistakes and poor player performances and do not begrudge others their shots. As far as Jim over there, well I guess he got tired of getting owned by everyone in his sad little arguments on the 'chicago sucks' thread and still feels the need to prove how little he truly knows about sports. Lets see...history is irrelevant, hmm, given the only success the Clippers had was when they just made the playoffs under Larry Brown. I'm not a hater and 8-2 is great, hell I wish we were 8-2, but this is ONLY 10 GAMES IN. Lets see their record at the all-star break, or even where they are at by playoff time. The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful franchises in all of professional sports, this club has won currently 14 NBA championships, including 5 in the 1980s, and in2000, 2001, and 2002 and leads the NBA with a record of 27 appearances in the NBA Finals to date. God brown you're such a f***ing tard...is that the best you can bring up? I don't know what I'm talking about because I had a quote in my sig. from a sketch comedy tv show? Way to shove my 'arguments' up my ass...:wtf: and showcase your vitriolic nonsensical babble to everyone else who doesn't agree with your immature opinions.

i don't have too much of a problem if he is trade bait to get manny, god knows i'd rather have him or beltran than just some unproven prospects + cash. that said, i just don't think he would be an ideal fit for boston. in reference to another thread here, i'd rather trade with texas for a 1B and platoon w/youk and see who wins job in spring training. personally, i think he's going to the west, especially considering all signs point to a west coast team, but that could always be a smokescreen i guess, lol. all i care about is that we get at least a frontline, productive starter if not an all-star for manny. i don't want to put pressure on papi and lowell to be the offense, at least not until lowell shows that he has regained his confidence and his swing.
-
the funny thing is that once he [beckett] becomes a FA at 35 - 37, thats when the yankees will all of a sudden throw obscene money at him. and if vasquez was such a prize with upside, why throw him away for an aging power pitcher with only a couple years left in baseball. smart thinking! no wonder they have to always throw money to lure players to come to ny, they're impulsive and give away whatever valuable prospects and young talent they have just to aquire someone who may or may not have an impact.
-
HAHAHAAH VEEERRRYYY FUNNY! How long it take you to come up with that jem? We'll see if Phillip can right this ship or just sit there with the same smug pose as usual... Though I do find it funny that a Clipper fan has the nerve to get first in line to take his shots against the Lakers. The Clippers have the best start in the history of their pathetic organization...an organization that is synonymous with failure and humilation and you seem incapable of having class and acting like you've been there before...o wait, you haven't nevermind. As for everyone else in the league taking their shots...well we had a great run crushing everyone else in the early kobe-shaq years and i'll take it. These things are cyclical and if that yes-man buffoon kupchak doesn't turn it around and surround kobe with better players, Buss sure as hell will not stand for it when the season ticket holders balk at paying one of the highest $$$ in the league to watch scrubs play with Kobe.
-
yeah but throw in the age difference and $$$ between Manny and D. Lee and the frugal cubs in no way make this deal. but as to schilling's argument, yes, lee had 1 good year vs. manny's entire career body of work, but what incentive does chicago need to make this deal? their cross-town rival just won the world series, yet they are still the best draw in all of chicago and they are not going to throw money away on an aging one-dimensional player (see sammy's exodus last season) with a media that is alot more hostile and intense than what he can expect out west.
-
dude wtf is your problem? last time i checked this team wasn't tryin to operate on tampa's or kc's budget. obviously if lucchino and henry thought enough to sign off on the deal, what's it to you how much he costs? do you realize we just got an all-star caliber ace in waiting for a couple of prospects? furthermore, so lowell is coming off a bad year, if that roided up freak giambi (no offense) was able to overcome his problems and still have a good year, there's no reason to think lowell can't either. if anything, he's going to have the opportunity to play his home games in a park that is perfect in helping him regain his swing. i say wait and see...
