  1. actually i DO think the padres owning the dodgers is something to be concerned about. the gnats are the gnats, and while they're no longer in dead last, they've gained ground on us by playing teams that are'nt very good, outside of cincinatti that is. we'd be in a better position, up by 4 or 5 games, had we not gotten swept the san diego. head to head, we're 5-1 against san fran in the month of august, and 10-6 for the season...i know, nothin to get overly excited about, but since the dodger went on their big winning streak, they've been nothin more than an afterthought. at best, they'll finish third behind either us or san diego.
  2. :harhar: me and my cousin were there for 2 of the games over the weekend, it was AWESOME! if only science could figure out a way to bottle whatever it was that allows the yankees to be the angel's bitch, then make sure the sox could pound it by the caseload!
  3. whoa the nfl network! i didnt realize we were talkin about a major network along the likes of espn, cbs, abc, or fox... i think u all are missing the point. the point being, whether bryant gumbel should have said what he said re: gene upshaw, and whether or not that comment will have a realistic negative influence on his career. i personally didnt hear or see the comment being made in person, but aside from making an obvious off color joke at an inappropriate time, i dont have a problem sharing his opinion. then again, be on cable, he could pretty much say whatever he wants, as long as its his opinion, which he did reiterate.
  4. bein on the west coast, i'll admit i'm biased, but outside of the red sox, i'm rooting for the angels (despite their anemic offense-shame on you stoneman!) and the dodgers in the nl(despite gettin swept by the madres-they always play us tough). i wouldnt mind it if detroit went all the way but i absolutely cant stand chicago. that arrogant f***ing hothead ozzie makes me hate the chisox, even though i have nothing against the players (except pierzynski). the mets to me got fat earlier in the season playin in a weaker division.
  5. i too was surprised we took 2/3 from the angels....just goes to show gm stoneman's miscalculation in not bringing in more offense to help vlad... that really has been the angels' achilles heel all season long, even after losing colon for the season.
  6. san diego might, as they were tryin to field a dodgers reunion team by trading for beltre at the deadline. if they were willing to even think of eating a good portion of beltre's ridiculous contract, there's no reason they wouldnt take on lowell's. my impression was the reason lowell wasnt traded to san diego earlier was that there wasnt anything san diego had that we wanted in return (other than payroll flexibility).
  7. was reply from the orel thread? if so, i was actually referring to the darkest day in my life...the day the rocket signed with the pinstripes. toronto i could live with, not ny! :thumbdown , but yeah for the purposes of that argument, pedro and damon work too.
  8. im sorry but gibbons strikes me as a guy that either has lost some of his players, or just doesnt know how to act like a professional manager. he should get fired, even if it was just a couple of bad cancers on the team. still no reason to go around challenging grown men to fights.
  9. saw this topic on the dodgerblues site. i originally posted to a certain extent i agree that the dodgers - gnats rivalry has been mostly one-sided, just like the yanks titles > red sox titles, the dodgers titles > san fagcisco. if anything, prior to last year, i'd say u had a more venomous rivalry between cubs/white sox fans & cubs/cardinals. but after reading other posts i've partially come back around and think the rivalry is most heated between the fans and not so much the players...especially in this era of free agency. sampling of other opinions: *it's west coast vs east coast, people! we got good weather and babes with fake titties coming out all year long. of course we are not as angry or passionate about the rivalry. like orel said, sf worries about beating la, we worry about winning championships. *It's been relatively rare that the Dodgers and Giants have battled each other for a division. One is usually good and the other blows. The Red Sox and Yankees, since about 1977, have contended for the AL East division flag many times and usually they have been within a few games of each other! The Dodgers-Giants has not given us anything close to the Bucky Dent home run. This year, for example, look at the aL East: Yanks and Sox, 1 and 2. Dodgers 1, Giants fifth... On a separate note, you have to give the Angels credit for being the only team in the Joe Torre era who has a winning record against the Yankees-they knocked the Evil Empire out of the playoffs TWICE. Thank you ex-Dodger Mike Scioscia!!http://www.mixxer.com/download/personal/d0b7bd024db91d43e12826cc0e55d943.gif/icon_drinking_gif.gif *and finally, The Yanks and Sox pretend they genuinely hate each other until they sign with the other team...sorry cheap shot, i know, but doesnt make it less true.
  10. oh great! another loss! f***ing worthless lurch...you'd think he'd be more intimidating ala randy johnson but throws like an 84 mph heater!!! http://www.mixxer.com/download/personal/543f8ca6523f3d4fe9384978cd4b8ae0.gif/emot_suicide_gif.gif
  11. dammit again to the madres...s***! well at least we took that series against the battery chuckers by the bay over the weekend....as long as we can continue winning or splitting series, we'll be in good shape!
  12. any predictions for tonight?? florida runs a zone which seems to give ucla trouble...plus they are more athletic than gonzaga...the last team that ran a zone defense. but outiside of their starting 5, they have no depth and are gonna live or die on making their shots because with the style of defense ucla brings, plus the depth to keep rotating fresh players out there that contribute...its gonna be a great DEFENSIVE game. i'll say ucla 67 fla 63
  13. i have recently changed my mind about vince young after seeing him in the championship game... however, as a pro... i wouldn't be in a hurry to trust my offense in his hands. he reminds me too much of vick in atlanta and his inability to effectively use the weapons at his disposal. my fear as an offensive coordinator is that he would rely too much on running too soon instead of letting the play develop and let his receivers get open. leinart on the other hands reminds me of carson palmer with maybe not as strong an arm. i guess a taller version of a drew brees, which still isn't too bad.
  14. i love the idea, but unless this team was more of a lock for the playoffs, i just think there's too much history... that bridge was burned when duquette slammed the door shut and he ended up a yankee after toronto.
  15. brilliant observation! what's next, water is wet? i agree that molina must have overestimated his value + the demand for his services were just not there...not with cheaper alternatives available. i still think he's got a good bat, is CLUTCH when it matters, and isn't too bad defensively. the only reason he wasn't resigned with anaheim is that his younger brother is gonna inherit the position while making room for prospect jeff mathis. i agree that by himself he doesn't make a huge difference, but collectively, with all the other moves they've made in the offseason, toronto has really gone out of its way on paper to be a serious contender in the division.
  16. Well I don't know if anyone else mentioned that proposal, but I posted last week that I had heard on the local sports talk radio XTRA in LA, that deal was rumored to have been on the backburner while the FO was publicly still trying to pull Crisp out of Cleveland. And because of the steep price of a 4 for 1 deal, not to mention being on the hook for an extra 20 mil a year for 1 player, Anaheim obviously got cold feet. While Figgins and Santana would be good additions, I think keeping Manny away from the Angels (who had been predicted to have the second worst offense only to KC-per FSN.) will help when it comes to the playoffs. Let's face it, Oakland and Texas both made moves to get better in the offseason while they pretty much nothing outside of pursuing Konerko. We'll see how desperate they become if they can't seem to get their offense on track and Texas or oakland are able get an early lead.
  17. once again, i had heard earlier this afternoon on XTRA that the angels were interested, but the deal he settled for w/SD was not the same his agent was demanding from anaheim. however, given the idiotic waste of time trial going on here in socal with the city suing arte moreno over the underuse of the word anaheim in association with the angels, the front office ends up losing out on a bargain. personally, i would have liked to see him end his career with the dodgers, but we have too many catchers already.
  18. makes sense, especially since ned [colletti] has been on record with still wanting to add another SP, but i think he's going to wait till at least spring training to evaluate where the dodgers are at with who they can afford to lose/trade for an injury-prone, fat, 42 yo. lefty in his last season with the big leagues. if he can stay moderately healthy and effective, there's no reason he can't come close to filling in for the loss of weaver this season. as for SD, i think he burned that bridge... if i had to guess, he ends up in LA or SF.
  19. well last i heard as of early this afternoon, the local radio station XTRA mentioned that there had been a potential deal with the angels on the backburner, but when push came shove, boston was asking for santana, figgins, and 4 top angel prospects. obviously stoneman balked at paying that price... but as time goes by, they're gonna have to answer tough questions as to why they have refused to aquire another power hitter going back to the last trading deadline when they faded offensively heading into the playoffs.
  20. How do u get me wanting that cancer on the lakers from my earlier rant for him to either report to Sacramento or do the league a favor and retire to make more bad music full time? Don't get me wrong, i think he's a good player that could help any team he gets traded to, but even with him we're no closer to competing for a championship... And learning from the T.O. debacle in philly, I'd rather we not sell our soul for this timebomb, especially since we already had one crazy brother in LA and just traded his ass to Oakland. Although it's a moot point now, but seeing as how Mitch Kupchak is about as predictable and deliberate as watching paint dry, there was no way in hell artest was seriously coming here anyway, shy of Maggette not being injured that is. In fact the only time he [Kupchak] seems to do anything was when a certain in-house free agent, or the owner figuratively holds a gun to his head. As disappointing as Odom has played in LA, he's pretty much close to untouchable...though I think that has more to do with LA getting shafted in trading away Shaq and he representing the only 'value' we got in return.
  21. well i may have the only if not one of the few dissenting opinions on snow, but i absolutely never liked or was particularly impressed with him going back to his days when he came up with the angels. living on the west coast and going to angel and dodger games frequently gave me the opportunity to see him play in person. yes, he may have 6 gold gloves (in his prime...and at 37 is far from), but was barely medicore offensively. outside of '04, he's never hit above .300, and even in '04 only managed to hit 12 HR. i maybe a little biased as he is a former giant, but IMO he was a decent to good player in his career, but at his age should come in for 'defensive purposes' or an emergency start as a second or third option. while i wasn't obviously overjoyed when he signed, i can only hope he can step in and be this year's olerud. short answer - youk.
  22. yeah, the same vince carter who was jaking an injury to force a trade and get out of toronto... stfu and play carter, you don't exactly have enough goodwill in the bank to start criticizing anyone in the NBA. i hope kobe uses that idiotic statement to light his ass up when they play the nets.
  23. OMG! You gotta be freaking kidding me! Not that I don't blame him (who'd actually want to go to last place Sacramento?) but dude IS NOT going back home to NY. Seeing as how he started all this chaos in the first place, he needs to either report to the team he was traded to or just do the league a favor and just retire.
  24. talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face... i can't believe peja was all they got (they give up all-star two way player for a 1 dimensional guy that can only shoot)...they must really have been desperate not to wait at least closer to trade deadline.
  25. sad to say i dont think there will be that many takers for dillon since he's on the wrong side of 30, and injuries aside, he looked like he aged 15 years over this season. i'd like to hope it was a fluke injury-riddled season for him and he'll bounce back next year, but considering how tenuous running back careers are... this could be the beginning of the end for him.
