If Relievers aren't valuable then why even keep Timlin around? Let's DFA him ... then lets move Paps back to the rotation, trade MDC and Hansen after the season then just sign a few scrubs to pitch in the pen because "relievers are just not that valuable"
I'm not saying we will blow up Wang every time. I just see him as a pitcher that needs hitters to chase him out of the zone, and I see the Sox as a very patient team. When those 2 things mix ... pitchers might not let up a lot of runs ... but more times than not you'll get into that bullpen early. Like that 5.0IP start you stated.
I don't think Wake is a disapointment AT ALL. He's hurt ... he's an older pitcher ... what do you expect? Considering he didn't have his catcher at the begining of the season ... I'd say a 4.14 ERA is just fine for Wake. Maybe you're expectations of him are too high. He is a consistent #4 pitcher. To expect more is your mistake ... not his.
I watched David Wells face all night and there is no way you're going to tell me he didn't care. After allowing his last HR they did a close up of his face when he turned around to watch the ball fly, and you could see how demoralized he was by his performance. You can bash Wells for a lot, but don't say he didn't care.
The guy was the talk of baseball in 04 as the next great pitcher. Everyone compared him to Randy Johnson, and he was right there with him in Ks for quite some time that year. He finished with 239Ks, and a 2.98 ERA. That from a 23 year old. There's no question Oliver Perez was unbelievable.
This has nothing to do with being good or bad. It has to do with losing 9 MPH off your fastball.
You're right man I don't know how I forgot Chacon! I was amazed we didn't have to throw some prospects in with that deal.
SHAWN CHACON 07 CY YOUNG!!!!!!11111
No that's not how I ment it. Every time Papi gets a walk off hit everyone asks why they didn't intentionally walk him ... well they didn't intentionally walk him because one of the greatest hitters the game has ever seen is waiting behind him.
