  1. I wonder if this irks Lester and Youkilis a bit though. I KNOW it irks Papelbon
  2. thats the kinda deal that makes me stand up and applaud
  3. Seriously. Bettman did Avery a huge favor here. Still, Avery crossed a line here by saying that s*** to the media
  4. good, I dont want this guy anywhere near the Sox
  5. Personally, Id sign Tex. The guy is just entering his prime, has stayed VERY durable (including playing all 162 games in 2005 and 2006) and has been productive regardless of what league he plays in. Plus, he plays sick defense. I'm just saying this FO will always look within the organization first to fill a need if there is a guy on the horizon, and in this case, there is. But like bosoxnation said, if Ortiz continues to decline, there will be a spot for both Lars and Tex once Papi's contract is up.
  6. yea, and Sherman is apparently pissed at Pettitte that neither he nor his agent have refuted reports that he'd go to LA to play for Joe Torre, despite the fact that he said he won't pitch for anyone else but New York
  7. You must keep the name no matter what The name becomes what defines you rather than what the name is based on
  8. The Sox should get her over here to throw out the first pitch to Dice-K
  9. As of right now, the only two certainties are Wang and Chamberlain. I haven't kept track of what's going on with Pettitte in terms of what Andy wants and what the Yankees want I have to assume they'll sign two of Sabathia/Burnett/Lowe I just can't imagine they'll guarantee a rotation spot to Hughes/Kennedy coming out of ST wow thats a lot of uncertainty
  10. A team that is able to be self-sustaining by building through the farm system aren't typically big wheelers and dealers in free agency which is what happened last off-season and what I think will happen this off-season They'll get mentioned in every conversation about Teixeira or Sabathia or Burnett but that's all because they have some of the deepest pockets in baseball and agents who throw the Sox name in there drive up the price on their client It's boring for us but it's the main the reason the Sox will be perennial contenders for the forseeable future
  11. worst case, he plays well enough in ST to get sent to 'Tucket and then hes another arm available that has ML experience. Absolutely nothing to lose
  12. But not better than Masterson or perhaps Buchholz
  13. Alright, so I'll re-word what I wanted to convey in my post I personally dont want to see Byrd and Wakefield rounding out the rotation
  14. it may be a dumb question but whats the criteria for determining how much a guy makes in arbitration? cause theres no way to justify Pettitte is worth $16 mil at this point of his career, even with today's inflated pitcher salaries
  15. but don't you think if the Yankees told Pettitte he isnt in their plans for 2009, he wouldnt f*** them over by accepting arbitration? and even if Abreu accepted and the Yankees were forced to trade him, I dont think theyd have that much trouble finding a suitor
  16. is it really that arguable to this point?
  17. Beckett-Lester-Dice-K-Byrd-Wakefield. back end of rotation (ie. anchor)
  18. BOOM. off-season over
  19. amazing, the Yankees of all teams decline arbitration cause of money worries
  20. Ichiro
  21. I personally dont want to see Byrd and Wakefield anchoring the rotation
  22. They also didn't factor in the international marketing aspect of having Japan's biggest star joining the Sox as he enters his prime years
  23. its a thread about the f***ing first base coach, how much relevant discussion can there possibly be?
  24. if you sign Teixeira and then trade Youk, youre more or less back to where you started, just with added payroll so what would be the point of signing Tex in the first place?
