  1. I thought it might be helpful to have a reference of baseball terms used in some of the threads with regards to statistical data. I'll start with a general primer of terms and statistics. It would be helpful, if other members would contribute other more specific definitions. Especially, if you use them in a post. Because of size limitations ( 10,000 ) I had to divide it up into mutiple posts. Mods adjust or delete as you see fit. Part I: Definitions of Abbreviations You probably know what most of the abbreviations stand for, but just in case: For Batters: G = Games AB = At-Bats H = Hits 2B = Doubles 3B = Triples HR = Home Runs Hm = Home Runs at Home Rd = Home Runs on the Road TB = Total Bases R = Runs RBI = Runs Batted In BI = Runs Batted In TBB = Total Bases on Balls IBB = Intentional Bases on Ball SO = Strikeouts HBP = Times Hit by Pitches SH = Sacrifice Hits SF = Sacrifice Flies SB = Stolen Bases CS = Times Caught Stealing SB% = Stolen Base Percentage GDP = Times Grounded into Double Plays Avg = Batting Average OBP = On-Base Percentage SLG = Slugging Percentage OPS = OBP + SLG SEC = Secondary Average BB = Walks PA = Plate Appearances RAT = Ratio of AB/HR RC = Runs Created RC/27 = Runs Created per 27 outs Ht = Height Wt = Weight Yr = Year Lg = Minor League Level POS = Position GB = Number of Fair Ground Balls Hit (hits, outs and errors) FB = Number of Fly Balls Hit (excludes line drives) G/F = Ratio of Grounders to Fly Balls BFP = Batters Facing Pitchers #Pit = Number of Pitches Offered to the Hitter #P/PA = Average Number of Pitches per Plate Appearance * = Bats Left-handed # = Switch Hitter For Pitchers: G = Games Pitched GS = Games Started CG = Complete Games GF = Games Finished IP = Innings Pitched BFP = Batters Facing Pitcher H = Hits Allowed R = Runs Allowed ER = Earned Runs Allowed HR = Home Runs Allowed SH = Sacrifice Hits Allowed SF = Sacrifice Flies Allowed HB = Hit Batsmen TBB = Total Bases on Balls IBB = Intentional Bases on Ball SO = Strikeouts WP = Wild Pitches Sup = Run Support per Nine Innings RS = Run Support per Nine Innings IR = Inherited Runners IRS = Inherited Runners who Scored QS = Quality Starts SvOp = Save Opportunities GB = Groundballs Hit Against the Pitcher (hits, outs and errors) FB = Fly Balls Hit Against the Pitcher (excludes line drives) GF = Ratio of Grounders to Flies G/F = Ratio of Grounders to Flies Bk = Balks W = Wins L = Losses Pct. = Winning Percentage ShO = Shutouts Sv = Saves ERA = Earned Run Average Sv = Saves BB = Walks Issued Avg = Batting Average Allowed by Pitcher RAT = Ratio of SO/AB Ht = Height Wt = Weight POS = Position Yr = Year Lg = Minor League Level ShO = Shutouts * = Throws Left-handed For Fielders G = Number of Games at Position GS = Number of Starts Innings = Number of Innings at Position PO = Putouts A = Assists E = Errors DP = Double Plays Turned Fld.Pct = Fielding Percentage Rng.Fctr = Range Factor In Zone = Balls Hit in the Player's Area Outs = Number of Outs Resulting from a Ball Hit to a Player Zone Rtg = Zone Rating (see Definitions) MLB Zone = Major League Average Zone Rating for that Position Source : http://www.baseballtips.com/glossary.html
  2. Boy there are going to be a lot of people that don't like me much anymore after the season gets under way. Especially after week 3. Looking forward to it, should be a great game.

  4. Welcome aboad. A West Coast scout for the Sox, great !
  5. I washed mine wth no problem ( cold water ).
  6. I don't remember asking for you're opinion, Casper.
  7. You're worst than I thought. Even when presented with the evidence, you still blindly and erroneously gone on misquoting, citing partial passages out of context, in a weak attempt to make a point. I have no use for you.
  8. Gee, did your mommy know you were playing with the computer. Have some milk and cookies and take a nap. Maybe latter mommy will let your out to play again. Don't forget your homework, " See Spot run....... "
  9. That's right , you said the same useless information. You obviously don't read at all. THis thread is about Schilling generous donation onlyu. It's not abot A-Rod, Jeter, the Pope for that matter. I ( we ) could care less if you hate Schilling. If you can't post anything constructive to the thread don't post at all.
  10. Evertime that it gets to that point ( which seems to be often ) it goes to Fights and Crap.
  11. Heitz ( a political connection ? ) or generic ?
  12. I understand, but talking about next year's possible rotation has nothing to do with Hansen being shut down. If there was some new information regarding his status, then fine. But all you're doing is continuing the same discussions of what if and what was, that eventually lead to that same NY vs Boston and name calling. This will make great material to discuss during " hot Stove " time. This topic should have died long ago, since its old news.
  13. Who are you to judge what other people should do with their money. You have absoltutely no idea what their expenses and budgets are ( I doubt very much from your comments you could understand it if presented to you ). I grow tired of people like you, who are first to say what other people should do. Here's a question, what have you done. If people to donate their time to load trucks and boxes, little kids can sell cookies and lemonade, wash cars, yard sales, church groups for food and clothes drives, the Red Sox forfund raising, etc. Everyone can do something. What have you done ?
  14. There's a thread for next years pitching ( actually more than one ) is this isn't it.
  15. I hope that Schilling's next start shows more improvement again. I'm encouraged and I keep the faith.
  16. This has got be be one one the most useless threads. It has lived on way to long. But, stop posting and it will die, like it should.
  17. I'm thinking tonight, because he's going to a have an extra group of Red Sox rooters.
  18. You might want to try posting here : http://www.talksox.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3971
  19. No you're exactly like that. This is a thread to welcome new members. Not to regurgatate out of context Yankee hyperboyle.
  20. If you can't make a consistent post, take you time, think about it ( ask for some help if you want to ) then make a post. First, you go to great lengths to state that you don't want to say anthing about Schilling last year, but that's exactly what you do. Then you state that"some people think, who is some people that hasn't been stated here. Then you choose an analogy of a totally different sport and totally different circumstances. Reed made a token appearence. Yes, he may have provided some motivation. But his 8 points had little to do with the games outcome ( out of 100+ pts ). Also, this was one game and a few minutes. With Schilling, we're talking about 3 series. I won't even bother with your supposed "stats" those have alreading been ridiculed. Take some time to think about waht you're going to post or don't bother.
  21. Very nice of them. But the Schillings are a class act.
  22. I'm watching Night Line now and they just interviewed the management company that runs the Superdome. He said that would have to be torn down and totally rebuilt.
  23. Have any of you members been bothered by the fact that named theads and the discussions contained therein have little relationship. Essentially, it seems that it comes down to : Yankee's suck or Red Sox suck argument, weak analogies to other sports, a beauty contest, or a personal vendetta. Put the thread in the correct forum, discuss and debate the topic of the thread ( don't turn it or hi-jack it ) debate the issue ( logic and statistics would be helpful ) don't let it degrade into a name calling contest. It doesn't really matter whether your a Sox's, Yank's, Pat's, Jet's, etc fan. I've noticed that a large number of our members will log on, stay on for a while, and will not post / contribute. I wonder whether this is because : they don't want to get into the middle of a feud, they've heard the same argument many times before, or they don't want to be ridiculled. I believe that all of you have something to say , information you'd like to get, or something you'd like to learn. I don't think anyone here is God or anything close. But some of you seem to think you are. If someone posted in error, correct them. Please give a source of your information. If you derived it from another site state it. As the membership roll increases there are bound to be some members that just don't belong ( I would suspect the reason for banning ) but not just because you disagree with them. If you're here just to antagonize or incite , maybe you don't belong. This a good site. With your help and contributions, it can be a great site. It can also be a cesspool to dump all your anger, hatred, and bigotry. I'm willing to work to make it a great site ( Sosh, Dirtdogs, etc who ? we're better ) are you ? PS: If you want to dump on me, fine, it can be a very big cesspool.
