  1. This still begs the question though, where does Hanley and his 20+ million dollar contract play? You mentioned Martinez and his awful glove, but he is no match to Hanley. Hanley cant play 1B, and doesnt want to play 1B and he was a disaster in LF. Are we really going to add another player who is a liability in the field? Combine that with the 20 errors that Devers will make this year.........The Mooreland signing could potentially screw us now that JD Martinez sees that there is a logjam. He may decide its not worth the headache. I think the fact that they havent moved anyone to make room, and instead congested the situation even worse really hurts us.
  2. Thank god we brought him back. You can never have enough #8 hitters in the lineup. John Farrell once said we had 4 aces in the rotation, well.....weve topped that, we have 8 players in the lineup that should be hitting 8th!
  3. Unfortunately for him, regardless, he is their face. Their success or failure will solely be blamed on him.
  4. I am not sure this matters. Its not like there is a ton of news about his potential landing spots. I think the Redsox will have every opportunity to sign him, and I am not sure there is a better option for him out there. Plus, with the Yankees getting Stanton, there might be incentive to be part of the rivalry that looks like it will undoubtedly start to heat up again.
  5. I think this is probably the best option. Id even expand on it. Cut Hanley and Pedroia as well. Eat the money and start over with a new look.
  6. Wish we could just cut him. End of an era, thanks for the memories, time to move on. This team needed a leader last year, and he was his typical whiny bitch self.
  7. Darren Lewis with power. I didnt compare him to Darren Lewis. I compared him to Darren Lewis with power, and its not so ridiculous if you think about it. Players like JBJ are the reason why we don't get players like Stanton. Redsox fans/FO overhype/overrate their middling talent to the point that better players go to smarter teams willing to make a move, or take a risk.
  8. So, 1.5 years of service, with a .222BA/.329OB/.471SLG/.800OPS. The .800 OPS makes him slightly above average in that category. Everything else he does is below average, or WAY below average. He literally can't play defense. Some players get away with it, but not ones with an .800 OPS.
  9. They did not have to shed HIS salary. Why did they absolutely HAVE to get rid of the best young slugger in the game? They should have gutted the team of everyone EXCEPT Stanton, then build around the best young power hitting in the game.
  10. Tons of players get shifted on. He's a power hitting fat Mark Bellhorn, except...at least Bellhorn could play defense and run a little bit. If he is hitting 3 or 4 in the lineup, I am not sure if we are better, or worse than last year. If he is your premier power option, youre screwed.
  11. I wholy expect the Yankees to be in on Harper, and I’m not kidding.
  12. why would they cut him? Didn’t you hear? The redsox were looking for pitching at the winter meetings, not hitting according to Stanton’s agent. Why would they release an asset? Haha
  13. Ugh, what an ugly trade that would be. They can hardly keep him motivated while playing on a top 5 MLB team. Imagine his production playing for the worst team in baseball.
  14. Why should we refuse all trade offers that include JBJ other than Stanton? He is extremely streaky. He doesn't get on base. He doesn't run and hes a below average offensive player. He is Darren Lewis with power. Lewis would have won a GG every year had he had the luxury of JBJ's unproductive AB's. Hes not that good, and extremely overrated.
  15. Oh come on. Giants pedigree doesn't match the Patriots. Not any more. 25 years ago, there would be no question. Giants are an all time great franchise, but the Patriots are a machine. Theyve been that way since Bill Parcells (minus a 2 year hiccup with that moron Pete Carroll). You won those two games with a lot of lucky fluke plays. Its fine, a win is a win, and for a long time those wins bothered me, until we won 2 more since.....I'd rather be 7-0 in the Brady/BB era, but 5-2 isnt bad either.
  16. You would know better than me since you watch him. I will follow him closer this year. I didn't get a chance to watch a whole lot of baseball the last couple of years.
  17. Sexson was pretty underrated IMO, where Dunn was overrated. Id actually take Sexson over Dunn. I think 60+ potential is quite high, especially with the longball numbers over the last 10 or so years. This year was the first year in a while that the ball soared (which is also very sad, because EVERYONE on the Redsox struggled to hit HR's) That being said, Judge at least tries to be a more complete hitter than those guys, but the hole in his swing leads me to believe he might be a better hitter if he concentrated at (gasp) not using the whole field. Obviously he is a much better athlete than those other guys.
  18. If the Sox fail to acquire Martinez, or Abreu....is this offseason a bust? We are not on the list of teams that Stanton would approve a trade to, so he is out of the running. I am not sure I want them to make a move, just to make a move. I'd like to have Stanton or Abreu, but at what cost?.....and are JD Martinez and Hosmer really worth it, or are they the best of a bad group of FA's?
  19. Maybe I didn't explain it clearly. Im not saying thats what he would become, I said that his approach is simiar to him, Sexson and Dunn. I would love Judge in a Sox uniform, if I am a Yankees fan though, I would just be nervous that he could not repeat and fell to the level of a Branyan rather than a Dunn.
  20. Victor Martinez was a full time catcher until 2010, where he caught 110 games with the Redsox. This looks and feels like cherry picking stats.
  21. Tony Pena won a gold glove in 1991. Yup. If Rich Gedman is one of the best catchers your team has ever had......then you havent had very man good ones.
  22. Could they afford to realistically add that much payroll? The Angels arent exactly the Oakland A's, but I have always viewed them as pretty conservative, especially after the Pujols signing.
